Book Mexican Police Cars

Download or read book Mexican Police Cars written by Cristina Berna and published by BOD GmbH DE. This book was released on 2024-02-28 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mexican police cars are very colorful and much loved by children. Law enforcement services in Mexico are shared between federal, border, traffic, state and municipal police. The two main police forces with national remit are the uniform police called Policia Federal and the plainclothed criminal investigations force called Policia Federal Ministerial (PFM). Mexico is a very beautiful country with a rich history and very diverse population. Unfortunately the drug business with the USA makes the country dangerous for many people. Most Mexicans are very proud of their country, and their musical culture is fantastic, with many great singers and many more wonderful musical bands and dance traditions. The authors have made a similar book on American police cars and the styles have similarity between the two countries. We hope you will enjoy our selection of photos.

Book Police Reform in Mexico

Download or read book Police Reform in Mexico written by Daniel Sabet and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2012-05-02 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The urgent need to professionalize Mexican police has been recognized since the early 1990s, but despite even the most well-intentioned promises from elected officials and police chiefs, few gains have been made in improving police integrity. Why have reform efforts in Mexico been largely unsuccessful? This book seeks to answer the question by focusing on Mexico's municipal police, which make up the largest percentage of the country's police forces. Indeed, organized crime presents a major obstacle to institutional change, with criminal groups killing hundreds of local police in recent years. Nonetheless, Daniel Sabet argues that the problems of Mexican policing are really problems of governance. He finds that reform has suffered from a number of policy design and implementation challenges. More importantly, the informal rules of Mexican politics have prevented the continuity of reform efforts across administrations, allowed patronage appointments to persist, and undermined anti-corruption efforts. Although many advances have been made in Mexican policing, weak horizontal and vertical accountability mechanisms have failed to create sufficient incentives for institutional change. Citizens may represent the best hope for counterbalancing the toxic effects of organized crime and poor governance, but the ambivalent relationship between citizens and their police must be overcome to break the vicious cycle of corruption and ineffectiveness.

Book The Informal and Underground Economy of the South Texas Border

Download or read book The Informal and Underground Economy of the South Texas Border written by Chad Richardson and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2012-11-15 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been debated about the presence of undocumented workers along the South Texas border, but these debates often overlook the more complete dimension: the region’s longstanding, undocumented economies as a whole. Borderlands commerce that evades government scrutiny can be categorized into informal economies (the unreported exchange of legal goods and services) or underground economies (criminal economic activities that, obviously, occur without government oversight). Examining long-term study, observation, and participation in the border region, with the assistance of hundreds of locally embedded informants, The Informal and Underground Economy of the South Texas Border presents unique insights into the causes and ramifications of these economic channels. The third volume in UT–Pan American’s Borderlife Project, this eye-opening investigation draws on vivid ethnographic interviews, bolstered by decades of supplemental data, to reveal a culture where divided loyalties, paired with a lack of access to protection under the law and other forms of state-sponsored recourse, have given rise to social spectra that often defy stereotypes. A cornerstone of the authors’ findings is that these economic activities increase when citizens perceive the state’s intervention as illegitimate, whether in the form of fees, taxes, or regulation. From living conditions in the impoverished colonias to President Felipe Calderón’s futile attempts to eradicate police corruption in Mexico, this book is a riveting portrait of benefit versus risk in the wake of a “no-man’s-land” legacy.

Book Stealing Cars

    Book Details:
  • Author : John A. Heitmann
  • Publisher : JHU Press
  • Release : 2014-05
  • ISBN : 1421412977
  • Pages : 229 pages

Download or read book Stealing Cars written by John A. Heitmann and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2014-05 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The technology-thwarting car thief has become as advanced as the cars themselves. As early as 1910 Americans recognized that cars were easy to steal and, once stolen, hard to find, especially since cars looked much alike. Model styles and colors eventually changed, but so did the means of making a stolen car disappear. Though changing license plates and serial numbers remain basic procedure, thieves have created highly sophisticated networks to disassemble stolen vehicles, distribute the parts, and/or ship the altered cars out of the country. Stealing cars has become as technologically advanced as the cars themselves. John A. Heitmann and Rebecca H. Morales’s study of automobile theft and culture examines a wide range of related topics that includes motives and methods, technological deterrents, place and space, institutional responses, international borders, and cultural reflections. Only recently have scholars begun to move their focus away from the creators and manufacturers of the automobile to its users. Stealing Cars illustrates the power of this approach, as it aims at developing a better understanding of the place of the automobile in the broad texture of American life. There are many who are fascinated by aspects of automobile history, but many more readers enjoy the topic of crime—motives, methods, escaping capture, and of course solving the crime and bringing criminals to justice. Stealing Cars brings together expertise from the history of technology and cultural history as well as city planning and transborder studies to produce a compelling and detailed work that raises questions concerning American priorities and values. Drawing on sources that include interviews, government documents, patents, sociological and psychological studies, magazines, monographs, scholarly periodicals, film, fiction, and digital gaming, Heitmann and Morales tell a story that highlights both human creativity and some of the paradoxes of American life.
