Afin de faire passer, de manière adaptée et efficace, les informations nécessaires aux futurs et jeunes parents, elles préconisent, aussi, l'implication de tous les intervenants en relation avec la périnatalité. Pourtant, à l'heure actuelle aucune campagne de prévention ne concerne la petite enfance, et les professionnels au contact des intéressés sont peu ou pas formés. Cette thèse montre, dans un premier temps, la place stratégique que pourrait avoir le maïeuticien dans la mise en place de gestes simples et des recommandations de prévention bucco-dentaire pour le tout petit, au travers des informations qu'il pourrait donner aux futurs parents. L'enquête réalisée au cours de ce travail auprès de 60 maïeuticiens montre leur manque de connaissances sur le sujet, malgré l'intérêt qu'ils lui portent. La dernière partie de la thèse propose une synthèse des notions fondamentales nécessaires à la compréhension de la carie de la petite enfance et de ses conséquences, qui pourrait servir de base à l'élaboration d'un enseignement informatif à l'attention des maïeuticiens. Cet enseignement leur donnerait la possibilité de transmettre les recommandations nécessaires, afin de prendre soin du capital santé que sont les dents temporaires des enfants.

Book excerpt: L'objectif de ce travail était de concevoir une plaquette d'information sur la Carie de la Petite Enfance (CPE) pour les personnels des services de Protection Maternelle et Infantile (PMI). La plaquette a été rédigée en se basant sur les recommandations de l'Agence Française de Sécurité Sanitaire des Produits de Santé (AFSSAPS) concernant l'usage du fluor chez l'enfant et sur les recommandations de la Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) à propos des stratégies de prévention de la carie dentaire. Cette plaquette a pour objectif d'aider le personnel de PMI à détecter précocement les lésions carieuses, à déterminer le risque carieux et à utiliser les moyens de prévention de la maladie carieuse. La plaquette a été évaluée auprès de 20 médecins du service de la PMI du Puy de Dôme grâce à un questionnaire évaluant l'intérêt, l'utilité et la compréhensibilité de la plaquette. Dans un deuxième temps, une évaluation des connaissances apportées par ce livret a été réalisée. Les résultats montrent que la plaquette améliore notablement les connaissances des médecins. Il paraît cependant nécessaire l'organiser des séminaires de formation complémentaires pour augmenter les capacités à diagnostiquer des médecins. Il serait aussi souhaitable d'étendre la diffusion de la plaquette à d'autres professionnels de santé ainsi qu'aux médecins et pédiatres de ville.
