Este proyecto pretende ser una invitación a trabajar en estas necesidades que tiene el ser humano, como son el requerimiento de luz, de ventilación y humedad controlada y de niveles de ruido admisibles, dentro del rango considerado saludable. Para tratar de solucionar un problema, primero hay que detectarlo y conocerlo, y luego perseguir la solución adecuada; la investigación se ocupa en conocer las condiciones de iluminación, ruido e higrotermicidad en la vivienda, a partir de un modelo metodológico propuesto para diagnosticar la situación de los tres parámetros. Las consecuencias para las personas y la vivienda misma se enumeran y se pretende bocetar una serie de posibles soluciones -no paliativas- para estos efectos, desde el diseño de la vivienda; estas soluciones planteadas se tornan en potenciales temáticas de investigaciones.

Sponsored by the GCI, the Museum of New Mexico State Monuments, ICCROM, CRATerre-EAG, and the National Park Service, under the aegis of US/ICOMOS, the event was organized to promote the exchange of ideas, techniques, and research findings on the conservation of earthen architecture. Presentations at the conference covered a diversity of subjects, including the historic traditions of earthen architecture, conservation and restoration, site preservation, studies in consolidation and seismic mitigation, and examinations of moisture problems, clay chemistry, and microstructures. In discussions that focused on the future, the application of modern technologies and materials to site conservation was urged, as was using scientific knowledge of existing structures in the creation of new, low-cost, earthen architecture housing.
