Book Aging and Health A Systems Biology Perspective

Download or read book Aging and Health A Systems Biology Perspective written by A.I. Yashin and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aging is a major risk factor for chronic diseases, which in turn can provide information about the aging of a biological system. This publication serves as an introduction to systems biology and its application to biological aging. Key pathways and processes that impinge on aging are reviewed, and how they contribute to health and disease during aging is discussed. The evolution of this situation is analyzed, and the consequences for the study of genetic effects on aging are presented. Epigenetic programming of aging, as a continuation of development, creates an interface between the genome and the environment. New research into the gut microbiome describes how this interface may operate in practice with marked consequences for a variety of disorders. This analysis is bolstered by a view of the aging organism as a whole, with conclusions about the mechanisms underlying resilience of the organism to change, and is expanded with a discussion of circadian rhythms in aging. Finally, the book presents an outlook for the development of interventions to delay or to reverse the features of aging. The publication is recommended to students, researchers as well as professionals dealing with public health and public policy related to an aging society.

Book Magnetic Resonance in Colloid and Interface Science

Download or read book Magnetic Resonance in Colloid and Interface Science written by J. Fraissard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1976, on the occasion of the Centennial of the Ameri can Chemical Society, H. A. RESrnG and C. G. WADE organized an international symposium on magnetic resonance in collo1d and in terface science which brought together a large number of scien tists from the United States and from abroad. The aim of this symposium was to include all experimental inorganic, organic and biochemical systems in which molecules are bound to interfaces and to show the contribution of various techniques based on ma gnetic resonance to the knowledge of these systems. This ambi tious program resulted into a very interesting gathering that initiated a more interdisciplinary approach to the problem of interfaces. Because of the success of this symposium it was sug gested that a similar meeting should be organized in Europe within the next three years. Professor J. FRAISSARD accepted this task but, conside ring the rapid developments in the theory and in the applica tions of the magnetic resonance spectroscopies, the organ1z1ng committee decided to arrange the meeting to be held in MENTON (France) in two parts, the first being a School and the second the Symposium proper. The former was' intended to review and to teach theoretical aspects as well as to discuss the experimental results derived from these advanced methods; the Symposium was to be for the discussion of the latest results at the highest level.

Book NMR Spectroscopy for Probing Functional Dynamics at Biological Interfaces

Download or read book NMR Spectroscopy for Probing Functional Dynamics at Biological Interfaces written by Anirban Bhunia and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2022-08-17 with total page 733 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NMR spectroscopy has found a wide range of applications in life sciences over recent decades. Providing a comprehensive amalgamation of the scattered knowledge of how to apply high-resolution NMR techniques to biomolecular systems, this book will break down the conventional stereotypes in the use of NMR for structural studies. The major focus is on novel approaches in NMR which deal with the functional interface of either protein-protein interactions or protein-lipid interactions. Bridging the gaps between structural and functional studies, the Editors believe a thorough compilation of these studies will open an entirely new dimension of understanding of crucial functional motifs. This in turn will be helpful for future applications into drug design or better understanding of systems. The book will appeal to NMR practitioners in industry and academia who are looking for a comprehensive understanding of the possibilities of applying high-resolution NMR spectroscopic techniques in probing biomolecular interactions.
