This book was released on 1993-09-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 3: The latest in the MIA series, which is a remarkable practice-oriented account of immunological analysis. Volumes 1, 2 and 3 provide an extraordinarily comprehensive and up-to-date depiction of methods of immunological analysis. Volume 1 deals predominantly with methodological aspects of immunoassay formats and systems. Volume 2 covers the pre-analytical phase and the production and characterization of reagents. Volume 3 is concerned with the approach to using immunological methods for the analysis of cells and tissues. In the first sections, the methods necessary for the isolation of cells from many different tissues are described, with the emphasis upon human cells. Moreover, the various approaches to the use of antibody-based methods in immunocytochemistry are delineated. Their comparative uses and performance are discussed in critical detail. The last part of the volume considers the ways in which immune cells can be analysed by methods conventionally understood by immunologists, but not necessarily using antibodies. A brief summary of major topics in Volume 3: *preparation of Cells and Tissues * Cell Culture * Cell Fractionation and Purification * Methods of Phenotype Analysis * Immunoanalysis of Cell Function * Analysis of Immune Cell Function.

Book Physical and Chemical Methods

Download or read book Physical and Chemical Methods written by Curtis A. Williams and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods in Immunology: Volume II, Physical and Chemical Methods is a collection of papers dealing with electrophoresis, analytical ultracentrifugation, dialysis, ultrafiltration, cellulose ion exchangers, and chromatographic separation of macromolecules on porous gels. Some papers explain the applications of radioisotopes, optical analysis, and chemical analysis of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acid. One paper describes the theory of electro-migration. Factors such as electrical charge or frictional coefficients govern the rate of migration of charged particles in an electric field. The differences found in their velocities can be used to separate substances or analyze them. Mobility is a characteristic property of molecules and can also be influenced by the composition of the medium or solution. Dialysis separates solvents too large to diffuse through a barrier from smaller solutes; ultrafiltration (reverse osmosis) forces solvent and solutes up to a certain critical size through the barrier by a high pressure on one side. The book notes that the membrane never becomes plugged in dialysis because of some opposite movement of the solvent. Another paper points out that the significance of radioactive tracers in immunochemistry employed to identify and label macromolecules functioning as antigens and antibodies. The collection can prove valuable to bio-chemists, cellular biologists, micro-biologists, developmental biologists, and scientists involved in immunological research.

Download or read book Methods of Immunological Analysis Methods of Immunological Analysis written by Rene Masseyeff and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 1992-12-11 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone conducting analyses using immunological methods should read METHODS OF IMMUNOLOGICAL ANALYSIS. Now available! Three detailed volumes supplying a complete practice-oriented introduction to immunoanalysis. A set in themselves, they provide an extraordinarily comprehensive and up-to-date depiction of these methods. Both specialists and non-specialists will appreciate the broad scope of this set: It covers a wide area of the life sciences, chemistry and medicine, adjusted to the extensive applicability of immunoanalytical techniques. We at VCH feel that there is a definite need for this indispensable new series. Immunoanalysis is widely practised by analysts whose interests or training are not primarily in immunology. They clearly need the guidance that a good reference work provides. Furthermore, the range of immunochemical methods itself is so broad and its techniques so varied that even specialist immunologists and immunochemists find it difficult to assess different possible analytical approaches. They, too, need the support of an extensive reference work. Save 20% by subscribing to the series by 30 June 1993!

Book Laboratory Methods in Immunology

Download or read book Laboratory Methods in Immunology written by Heddy Zola and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990-05-23 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume reference details immunological techniques for biologists of all disciplines. Volume I includes a detailed discussion of the tissue culture laboratory. It addresses what the lab needs to be, and the general "housekeeping" procedures involved in tissue culture. Presented next are chapters on specific aspects of tissue culture and hybridoma technology. The book includes a review of bioassays for interleukins, and a series of papers on lymphokines and functional assays in vitro. The section on molecular genetic studies begins with consideration of the choice of strategies for cloning the genes of cell surface molecules. It continues with papers on aspects of molecular biological techniques most closely related to immunology. The final section covers immunochemical techniques. Volume II reviews techniques used with small laboratory animals. It includes papers on specialized procedures with animals. Technical aspects are emphasized through a detailed analysis of effects of ultraviolet light on the immune system. Covered also is antigen detection in cells and tissue. The book addresses the important areas of protein purification using monoclonal antibodies. These two volumes are of great importance to those who use immunological techniques, whether they are immunologists or trained in other disciplines. The book is intended for those in animal science, veterinary science, genetics and cell biology, bacteriology, immunology, pathology, biochemistry, laboratory medicine, and hematology.
