Download or read book A Numerical Procedure for Designing Cascade Blades with Prescribed Velocity Distributions in Incompressible Potential Flow written by Arthur G. Hansen and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical procedure based on conformal-mappng theory is presented for design of an airfoil cascade with prescribed velocity distribution in incompressible flow. A set of tables is included as a guide for computations, and a numerical example is presented to illustrate specific solutions to problems arising in design of a cascade by this method.

Book Application of a Channel Design Method to High solidity Cascades and Tests of an Impulse Cascade with 90 of Turning

Download or read book Application of a Channel Design Method to High solidity Cascades and Tests of an Impulse Cascade with 90 of Turning written by John D. Stanitz and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A technique is developed for the application of a channel design method to the design of high-solidity cascades with prescribed velocity distributions as a function of arc length along the blade-element profile. The technique applies to both incompressible and subsonic linearized compressible (ratio of specific heats equal to -1.0), nonviscous, irrotational, fluid motion. An impulse cascade with 90 degree turning was designed for incompressible flow and was tested at the design angle of attack over a range of downstream Mach number from 0.2 to choke flow. To achieve good efficiency, the cascade was designed for prescribed velocities with maximum allowable blade loading according to limitations imposed by considerations of boundary-layer separation.

Book Approximate design method for high solidity blade elements in compressors and turbines

Download or read book Approximate design method for high solidity blade elements in compressors and turbines written by John Stanitz and published by Рипол Классик. This book was released on 1951 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An approximate blade-element design method is developed for compressible or incompressible nonviscous flow in high-solidity stators or rotors of axial-, radial-, or mixed-flow compressors, turbines, or two-dimensinal cascades. The method is based upon channel-type flow between blade elements on a specified surface of revolution that lies between the hub and shroud (casing) and is concentric with the axis of the compressor turbine. The blade elements is designed for prescribed velocities along the blade-element profile as a function of distance along meridonal lines on the surface of revolution. Two numerical examples are presented: (1) the design of a blade-element profile for a plane two-dimensional cascade in compressible flow with the prescribed velocities along the profiles; and (2) the design of a blade element for the impeller of a mixed-flow centrifugal compressor.

Book Method of Matching Components and Predicting Performance of a Turbine propeller Engine

Download or read book Method of Matching Components and Predicting Performance of a Turbine propeller Engine written by Alois T. Sutor and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical expressions are derived to show the geometric, thermodynamic, and aerodynamic relations among compressor, turbine, and exhaust nozzle for a gas-turbine engine. For a known compressor performance map, a matching method is described to show some of the design compromises that must be made when the components are to be combined into a turbine-propeller engine. A method of predicting engine performance for a range of operating conditions from known component maps is presented. An illustrative example of the matching method and the performance analysis is presented, showing some of the practical limitations of engine operation.

Book Analysis of Wind tunnel Tests to a Mach Number of 0 90 of a Four engine Propeller driving Airplane Configuration Having a Wing with 40 Degrees Sweepback and an Aspect Ratio of 10

Download or read book Analysis of Wind tunnel Tests to a Mach Number of 0 90 of a Four engine Propeller driving Airplane Configuration Having a Wing with 40 Degrees Sweepback and an Aspect Ratio of 10 written by George G. Edwards and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted at speeds up to a Mach number of 0.90 to determine the effects of operating propellers on the longitudinal characteristics of a four-engine tractor airplane configuration having a 40 degrees swept wing with an aspect ratio of 10. Results of wind-tunnel tests of a model representing such an airplane configuration (see NACA TN 3789) show that these effects are of most concern in the low-speed high-thrust flight regime. In the present report the low-speed data are analyzed to determine the source of the various effects and to indicate how the adverse effects can be reduced, and the high-speed data are discussed primarily from the standpoint of Mach number effects. The analysis of the low-speed data indicates that the large variations of longitudinal stabil.itywith angle of attack resulted primarily from passage of the tail into and out of the slipstream. The slipstream also created large lift increments on the wing, particularly with flaps deflected, which resulted in increases in stability (with increasing thrust coefficient) from the outboard propeller and decreases in stability from the inboard propeller. It was concluded that the longitudinal stabiltty characteristics of the model couldbe improved by moving the nacelles outward, increasing the tail height, and reducing the tail span.
