Book Methods in Cell Physiology

Download or read book Methods in Cell Physiology written by David M. Prescott and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-22 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods in Cell Physiology, Volume I, brings together into one compilation, complete and detailed treatments of a number of widely useful techniques in modern cell biology which have not been published in full form elsewhere in the literature. The presentations in this volume are comprehensive to the extent that they may serve not only as a practical introduction to experimental procedures but they also provide some evaluation of the limitations, potentialities, and current applications of the methods. Only those theoretical considerations needed for proper use of the method are included. The book may have particular usefulness for those working with intact cells, and the first chapters deal with culturing and experimental manipulation of a variety of cell types. There are numerous descriptions of techniques designed for working with single cells and of procedures for studying cellular activities in relation to the cell life cycle. The chapters on autoradiography include detailed treatment of qualitative and quantitative aspects of the method as well as simple procedures for using liquid and dry emulsions.

Book excerpt: July 2019 Printed in BLACK AND WHITE The Army's Weapon Systems Handbook was updated in July 2019, but is still titled "Weapon Systems Handbook 2018." We are printing this in black and white to keep the price low. It presents many of the acquisition programs currently fielded or in development. The U.S. Army Acquisition Corps, with its 36,000 professionals, bears a unique responsibility for the oversight and systems management of the Army's acquisition lifecycle. With responsibility for hundreds of acquisition programs, civilian and military professionals collectively oversee research, development and acquisition activities totaling more than $20 billion in Fiscal Year 2016 alone. Why buy a book you can download for free? We print this so you don't have to. We at 4th Watch Publishing are former government employees, so we know how government employees actually use the standards. When a new standard is released, somebody has to print it, punch holes and put it in a 3-ring binder. While this is not a big deal for a 5 or 10-page document, many DoD documents are over 400 pages and printing a large document is a time- consuming effort. So, a person that's paid $25 an hour is spending hours simply printing out the tools needed to do the job. That's time that could be better spent doing mission. We publish these documents so you can focus on what you are there for. It's much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com. Book Handbook of Essential Oils

Download or read book Handbook of Essential Oils written by K. Husnu Can Baser and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-12-28 with total page 994 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Egyptian hieroglyphs, Chinese scrolls, and Ayurvedic literature record physicians administering aromatic oils to their patients. Today society looks to science to document health choices and the oils do not disappoint. The growing body of evidence of their efficacy for more than just scenting a room underscores the need for production standards, quality control parameters for raw materials and finished products, and well-defined Good Manufacturing Practices. Edited by two renowned experts, the Handbook of Essential Oils covers all aspects of essential oils from chemistry, pharmacology, and biological activity, to production and trade, to uses and regulation. Bringing together significant research and market profiles, this comprehensive handbook provides a much-needed compilation of information related to the development, use, and marketing of essential oils, including their chemistry and biochemistry. A select group of authoritative experts explores the historical, biological, regulatory, and microbial aspects. This reference also covers sources, production, analysis, storage, and transport of oils as well as aromatherapy, pharmacology, toxicology, and metabolism. It includes discussions of biological activity testing, results of antimicrobial and antioxidant tests, and penetration-enhancing activities useful in drug delivery. New information on essential oils may lead to an increased understanding of their multidimensional uses and better, more ecologically friendly production methods. Reflecting the immense developments in scientific knowledge available on essential oils, this book brings multidisciplinary coverage of essential oils into one all-inclusive resource.

Download or read book Wound Healing written by Luisa A. DiPietro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-01 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade, significant progress in molecular and cellular te- niques has greatly advanced our understanding of the wound healing p- cess. Many of these new techniques have been utilized in the context of more classic models of wound healing. The combination of new and classic approaches has allowed scientists to make exciting discoveries in the field of tissue repair, resulting in an explosion of information about the healing p- cess. Importantly, these new findings have great relevance beyond wound healing itself. The injury repair process cuts across many disciplines, exte- ing to such broad fields as cancer, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. The relevance of the field to these many disciplines has generated great interest in models and methods for the study of wound healing. The goal of Wound Healing: Methods and Protocols is to provide scientists from many dis- plines with a compendium of classic and contemporary protocols from r- ognized experts in the field of wound healing. We hope this volume will be useful not only to those working within the field itself, but also to scientists from other disciplines who wish to adapt wound healing models to their own experimental needs. The process of wound healing encompasses many different biologic p- cesses, including epithelial growth and differentiation, fibrous tissue prod- tion and function, angiogenesis, and inflammation.

Book Hemoglobin

  • Author : Jay F. Storz
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2018-11-08
  • ISBN : 0192538764
  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book Hemoglobin written by Jay F. Storz and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-08 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary aim of this book is to provide a synthesis of our current understanding of hemoglobin function and evolution, and to illustrate how research on one particular family of proteins has provided general insights into mechanisms of protein evolution and biochemical adaptation. In doing so, it will also promote an appreciation of how mechanistic insights into protein function can enrich our understanding of how evolution works. Reciprocally, it highlights how approaches in evolutionary genetics (such as phylogenetic comparative methods and ancestral sequence reconstruction) can be brought to bear on questions about the functional evolution of proteins. This treatise on the functional evolution of hemoglobin illustrates how research on a single, well-chosen model system can enhance our investigative acuity and bring key conceptual questions into especially sharp focus.
