Book Methodologies for Determining Reading Requirements Military Occupational Specialties

Download or read book Methodologies for Determining Reading Requirements Military Occupational Specialties written by John S. Caylor and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: READNEED research was concerned with the development of methodologies for determining reading requirements of Army MOSs. Three approaches for assessing MOS literacy demands are described: (a) analysis using a newly developed readability formula; (b) use of information currently in Army data banks to study relationships between reading ability and job proficiency; and (c) direct assessment by means of job reading task tests. Feasibility studies that indicate the relative merits of each approach, and certain conceptual and operational problems in determining literacy requirements of jobs are described. (Author Modified Abstract).

Book An Investigation and Demonstration of Methodologies for Determining the Reading Skills and Requirements of Air Force Career Ladders

Download or read book An Investigation and Demonstration of Methodologies for Determining the Reading Skills and Requirements of Air Force Career Ladders written by William P. Mockovak and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report investigates alternative approaches or methodologies that could be used to determine the reading skills and requirements of Air Force career specialties. Several of the methodologies reviewed have actually been applied in Army military occupational specialties, but the purpose of this study was to select and demonstrate a methodology which had the greatest potential for use within the Air Force. The methodology selected in this effort was applied to five technical courses at Lowry AFB, resulting in empirically determined reading requirement levels for those courses. A comparison of two methods used for predicting an individual's reading grade level from standardized test measures of general ability was also accomplished. (Author).

Book Determination of Literacy Skill Requirements in Four Military Occupational Specialities

Download or read book Determination of Literacy Skill Requirements in Four Military Occupational Specialities written by and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes results of research on the extent of usage of job printed materials and job listening sources as a function of the reading difficulty level of the materials and the reading ability of Army job incumbents. Psychometric data were obtained on relationships of reading ability to performance on job-related reading task tests, and of reading, listening, arithmetic, and AFQT to job proficiency as indexed by job knowledge tests, job sample tests, and supervisor ratings in four Army jobs. Methods are discussed for reducing discrepancies between personnel literacy skill levels and the literacy demands of the job by remedial literacy training or redesign of job literacy materials. Research results are discussed with regard to implications for selection, training, and research. (Author).

Book Literacy Demands of Publications in Selected Military Occupational Specialties

Download or read book Literacy Demands of Publications in Selected Military Occupational Specialties written by Thomas G. Sticht and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reading difficulty levels of publications in five MOSs were determined by means of the Flesch and Dale-Chall readability formulas. The readability levels of the publications were compared with the reading abilities of low and average mental aptitude men working in the MOSs. The comparison indicates that, in all MOSs, the average readability level of the publications exceeded the average reading abilities of the low aptitude men by from two to eight years. In all but one MOS, the average readability of the publications exceeded the average reading ability of the average mental aptitude men by from one to six years. Evidence is presented to suggest that both high and low aptitude readers are hurt when the reading difficulty of materials in increased. An appendix describes procedures for deriving the Flesch index of readability. (Author).
