Book Mechanics and Chemistry in Lubrication

Download or read book Mechanics and Chemistry in Lubrication written by A. Dorinson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1985-08-01 with total page 651 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although it is widely recognized that friction, wear and lubrication are linked together in a single interdisciplinary complex of scientific learning and technological practice, fragmented and specialized approaches still predominate. In this book, the authors examine lubrication from an interdisciplinary viewpoint. They demonstrate that once the treatment of lubrication is released from the confines of the fluid film concept, this interdisciplinary approach comes into full play. Tribological behavior in relation to lubrication is then examined from two major points of view: one is mechanical, not only with respect to the properties and behavior of the lubricant but also of the surfaces being lubricated. The other is chemical and encompasses the chemistry of the lubricant, the surfaces and the ambient surroundings. It is in the emphasis on the interaction of the basic mechanical and chemical processes in lubrication that this book differs from conventional treatments.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Pierre Y. Julien
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2002-08-19
  • ISBN : 9780521529709

Download or read book River Mechanics written by Pierre Y. Julien and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-08-19 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook offers a thorough analysis of rivers from upland areas to oceans. It scrutinizes select methods underlining both theory and engineering applications, emphasizing the mechanics of flood wave propagation and sediment transport in rivers. The text covers fundamental principles, engineering analysis, and engineering design, with problems, examples, and case studies throughout. Channel stability and river dynamics are examined in terms of river morphology, lateral migration, aggradation, and degradation. Detailed treatments of riverbank stabilization and engineering methods are provided, while separate chapters cover physical and mathematical models. This essential text presents both the theory and design of measures to reduce flood impact and bank erosion, to improve navigation, and to increase water supply to cities and irrigation canals. Over 100 exercises and nearly twenty case studies make this book an invaluable learning tool for students, and researchers and practitioners will find it a concise resource on the mechanics of rivers.
