Download or read book Meteorological Conditions During the Formation of Ice on Aircraft written by L. T. Samuels and published by . This book was released on 1932 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hazard resulting from the formation of ice on airplanes makes it highly desirable to ascertain all possible meteorological information pertinent thereto in order to avoid or prevent its formation. The object of this paper is to present the results of a number of records recently secured from autographic meteorological infstruments mounted on airplanes at times when ice formed.

Download or read book A Flight Investigation of the Meteorological Conditions Conductive to the Formation of Ice on Airplanes written by William Lewis and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data from flight measurements of the meteorological factors related to the intensity of icing conditions are presented. The physical factors that establish the distribution of liquid water in clouds of various types are discussed and the results of the analysis are used to formulate certain rules for the forecasting of icing intensity. The problems of determining the range of values of the significant factors defining icing intensity for the purpose of the design of ice-protection equipment are discussed and tentative values are given.

Book excerpt: The objects of the American Meteorological Society are "the development and dissemination of knowledge of meteorology in all its phases and applications, and the advancement of its professional ideals." The organization of the Society took place in affiliation with the American Association for the Advancement of Science at Saint Louis, Missouri, December 29, 1919, and its incorporation, at Washington, D. C., January 21, 1920. The work of the Society is carried on by the Bulletin, the Journal, and Meteorological Monographs, by papers and discussions at meetings of the Society, through the offices of the Secretary and the Executive Secretary, and by correspondence. All of the Americas are represented in the membership of the Society as well as many foreign countries.

Download or read book Mixed Phase Clouds written by Constantin Andronache and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-09-28 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mixed-Phase Clouds: Observations and Modeling presents advanced research topics on mixed-phase clouds. As the societal impacts of extreme weather and its forecasting grow, there is a continuous need to refine atmospheric observations, techniques and numerical models. Understanding the role of clouds in the atmosphere is increasingly vital for current applications, such as prediction and prevention of aircraft icing, weather modification, and the assessment of the effects of cloud phase partition in climate models. This book provides the essential information needed to address these problems with a focus on current observations, simulations and applications. - Provides in-depth knowledge and simulation of mixed-phase clouds over many regions of Earth, explaining their role in weather and climate - Features current research examples and case studies, including those on advanced research methods from authors with experience in both academia and the industry - Discusses the latest advances in this subject area, providing the reader with access to best practices for remote sensing and numerical modeling

Download or read book An Evalution of Some Approximate Methods of Computing Landing Stresses in Aircraft written by Elbridge Z. Stowell and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 748 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The landing of a simplified airplane structure, consisting of a uniform beam for the wings, a concentrated mass for the fuselage, and a linear spring for the landing gear, is analyzed exactly and is compared with several approximate solutions. The approximate solutions which neglect elasticity in the determination of landing-gear reaction but consider elasticity in computations of stresses give results of good accuracy and indicate that drop tests in which rigid masses are used may be a satisfactory approach to the landing problem.
