Book Metal Water Reactions V the Kinetics of Metal Water Reactions Low Pressure Studies

Download or read book Metal Water Reactions V the Kinetics of Metal Water Reactions Low Pressure Studies written by and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A technique was developed for the purpose of studying the kinetics of metal reactions with water vapor at low partial pressures of H/sub 2/O(g). The details of the method were worked out in the study of the reaction of sodium and water vapor and adapted to work involving zirconium and aluminum alloys. Sodiurn investigations were made at 200 to 350 deg C and water vapor concentrations up to 400 ppm in a moving stresrn of helium carrier gas at a total pressure of one atmosphere. Studies involving zirconium and Zircaloy-2 were conducted at temperatures up to 1700 deg C and water vapor concentrations up to 30,000 ppm in one atmosphere He. The results of these experiments can be explained on the premise that the rate of reaction is controlled by the transport of water vapor through the helium. Good agreement was obtained between experimental results and calculations employing mass transfer considerations. A short stady of aluminum was made at 900 to 1400 deg C with water vapor concentrations up to 6400 ppm. It was concluded from the essentially quantitative reduction of water vapor and the appearance of powdered oxide in the system that a vapor phase reaction between aluminum and water vapor occurred. Book Gas Phase Metal Reactions

Download or read book Gas Phase Metal Reactions written by A. Fontijn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-05-04 with total page 711 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book brings together, for the first time, all aspects of reactions of metallic species in the gas phase and gives an up-to-date overview of the field. Reactions covered include those of atomic, other free radical and transient neutral species, as well as ions. Experimental and theoretical work is reviewed and the efforts to establish a closer link between these approaches are discussed. The field is mainly approached from a fundamental point-of-view, but the applied problems which have helped stimulate the interest are pointed out and form the major subject of the final chapters. These emphasize the competition between purely gas-phase and gas-surface reactions.

Book Studies of Metal water Reactions at High Temperatures

Download or read book Studies of Metal water Reactions at High Temperatures written by Louis Baker and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mathematical model of the reaction of molten metal spheres with water was proposed. Explosive reactions were found to occur with particles smaller than about 1 mm in heated water and 0.5 mm in room-temperature water.

Book Metals and Chemical Change

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Arthur Johnson
  • Publisher : Royal Society of Chemistry
  • Release : 2002
  • ISBN : 9780854046652
  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book Metals and Chemical Change written by David Arthur Johnson and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2002 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at how molecules react, and how the feasibility and outcome of chemical reactions can be predicted. Beginning with an introduction to the concept of an activity series of metals, Metals and Chemical Change then introduces chemical thermodynamics (enthalpy, entropy and free energy) and applies the concept to both inorganic and organic elements. A Case Study on batteries and fuel cells is also included. The accompanying CD-ROM includes video sequences of the reactions of metals with water, acid and aqueous ions, and gives the reader an opportunity to make experimental observations and predictions about chemical behaviour. A comprehensive Data Book of chemical and physical constants is included, along with a set of interactive self-assessment questions. The Molecular World series provides an integrated introduction to all branches of chemistry for both students wishing to specialise and those wishing to gain a broad understanding of chemistry and its relevance to the everyday world and to other areas of science. The books, with their Case Studies and accompanying multi-media interactive CD-ROMs, will also provide valuable resource material for teachers and lecturers. (The CD-ROMs are designed for use on a PC running Windows 95, 98, ME or 2000.)
