  • Author : C. Th. J. Alkemade
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2013-10-22
  • ISBN : 1483285375
  • Pages : 1056 pages

Download or read book Metal Vapours in Flames written by C. Th. J. Alkemade and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1056 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is unique in comprising our present knowledge about the general state of, and the processes involving, metal vapours in combustion flames. It deals thoroughly with a great variety of experimental techniques, including many practical hints, and synthesizes the results in this field of research which are often scattered across publications in widely different areas of science and technology and over a large time span. An account is given of the results of recent and past flame experiments on the properties of metal species and the processes in which they take part. Properties and processes that are discussed 'in extenso' include the dissociation energy of metal compounds, collisional broadening of atomic lines, physical and chemical excitation and quenching of electric states, formation reactions of metal compounds, ionization and diffusion. Many of the topics and experimental methods discussed are also of interest in other fields of fundamental and applied science. In particular, explicit conclusions are drawn as to the analytical application of flame spectroscopy.

Book Heat Transfer in Condensation and Boiling

Download or read book Heat Transfer in Condensation and Boiling written by Karl Stephan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I welcome the opportunity to have my book translated, because of the great emphasis on two-phase flow and heat transfer in the English-speaking world, as related to research, university education, and industrial practice. The 1988 Springer-Verlag edition of "Warmeiibergang beim Kondensieren und beim Sieden" has been enlarged to include additional material on falling film evaporation (Chapter 12) and pressure drop in two-phase flow (Chapter 13). Minor errors in the original text have also been corrected. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Professor Green, Asso ciate Professor of German at Rensselaer, for his excellent translation and co operation. My thanks go also to Professor Bergles for his close attention to technical and linguistic details. He carefully read the typescript and made many comments and suggestions that helped to improve the manuscript. I hope that the English edition will meet with' a favorable reception and contribute to better understanding and to progress in the field of heat transfer in condensation and boiling. February 1992 K. Stephan Preface to the German-Language Edition This book is a continuation of the series "Heat and Mass Transfer" edited by U. Grigull, in which three volumes have already been published. Its aim is to acquaint students and practicing engineers with heat transfer during condensa tion and boiling, and is intended primarily for students and engineers in mechanical, chemical, electrical, and industrial processing engineering.

Book Method for the Generation of Variable Density Metal Vapors which Bypasses the Liquidus Phase

Download or read book Method for the Generation of Variable Density Metal Vapors which Bypasses the Liquidus Phase written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present invention provides a method for producing a metal vapor that includes the steps of combining a metal and graphite in a vessel to form a mixture; heating the mixture to a first temperature in an argon gas atmosphere to form a metal carbide; maintaining the first temperature for a period of time; heating the metal carbide to a second temperature to form a metal vapor; withdrawing the metal vapor and the argon gas from the vessel; and separating the metal vapor from the argon gas. Metal vapors made using this method can be used to produce uniform powders of the metal oxide that have narrow size distribution and high purity.

Book Fluid Metals

    Book Details:
  • Author : Friedrich Hensel
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2014-07-14
  • ISBN : 140086500X
  • Pages : 263 pages

Download or read book Fluid Metals written by Friedrich Hensel and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a long-needed general introduction to the physics and chemistry of the liquid-vapor phase transition of metals. Physicists and physical chemists have made great strides understanding the basic principles involved, and engineers have discovered a wide variety of new uses for fluid metals. Yet there has been no book that brings together the latest ideas and findings in the field or that bridges the conceptual gap between the condensed-matter physics relevant to a dense metallic liquid and the molecular chemistry relevant to a dilute atomic vapor. Friedrich Hensel and William Warren seek to change that here. They draw on cutting-edge research and data from carefully selected fluid-metal systems as they strive to develop a rigorous theoretical approach to predict the thermodynamic behavior of fluid metals over the entire liquid-vapor range. This book will appeal to theoreticians interested in metal-nonmetal transitions or continuous phase transitions in general. It will also be of great value to those who need to understand the practical applications of fluid metals, for example, as a high-temperature working fluid or as a key component of semiconductor manufacturing. Originally published in 1999. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Book Characteristics of Metal Vapors

Download or read book Characteristics of Metal Vapors written by A. E. Wechsler and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this experimental and analytical study is to determine the effects of metal vapors on the radiation heat transfer characteristics of arc and plasma systems. A high temperature absorption cell suitable for transmission measurements of alkali metal vapors at temperatures of 300 to 750C with vapor path lengths of 4 to 8 inches is described. The results of calibration tests using the absorption cell and an optical system capable of resolution of 1 to 8 A over the spectral region from 2000 to 9000 A are presented. Typical data on the transmission of sodium vapor are given, and methods of data reduction to obtain spectral absorption coefficients are proposed. A preliminary discussion of the radiation characteristics of vaporized electrode components such as tungsten, copper, and graphite is given. (Author).

Download or read book High Temperature Vapors written by John Hastie and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Temperature Vapors: Science and Technology focuses on the relationship of the basic science of high-temperature vapors to some areas of discernible practical importance in modern science and technology. The major high-temperature problem areas selected for discussion include chemical vapor transport and deposition; the vapor phase aspects of corrosion, combustion, and energy systems; and extraterrestrial high-temperature species. This book is comprised of seven chapters and begins with an introduction to the nature of the high-temperature vapor state, the scope and literature of high-temperature vapor-phase chemistry, and the role of high-temperature vapors in materials science. The discussion then turns to gas-solid reactions with vapor products; chemical vapor transport and deposition; vapor-phase aspects of corrosion at high temperature; and flames and combustion. High-temperature vapor-phase processes associated with gas turbine systems are also considered. The final chapter is devoted to the chemistry of high-temperature species in space. This monograph should serve as a valuable reference for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as scientists in fields such as chemistry, physics, materials science, and metallurgy.
