Book Green Industrial Applications of Ionic Liquids

Download or read book Green Industrial Applications of Ionic Liquids written by Robin D. Rogers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the lecture notes for the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on th Green Industrial Applications of Ionic Liquids held April 12th_16 , 2000 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. This was the fIrst international meeting devoted to research in the area of ionic liquids (salts with melting points below 100 0c), and was intended to explore the promise of ionic liquids as well as to set a research agenda for the fIeld. It was the fIrst international meeting dedicated to the study and application of ionic liquids as solvents, and forty-one scientists and engineers from academia, industry, and government research laboratories (as well as six industry observers and four student assistants) met to discuss the current and future status of the application of ionic liquids to new green industrial technologies. It was immediately clear that the number of organic chemists and engineers working in the fIeld needed to be increased. It was also clear that the declining interest in high temperature molten salts and subsequent increase in low melting ionic liquid solvents had not yet taken hold in Eastern Europe. Participants from NATO Partner Countries contributed signifIcant expertise in high temperature molten salts and were able to take back a new awareness and interest in ionic liquid solvents.

Book Global Optimization in Action

Download or read book Global Optimization in Action written by János D. Pintér and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1995-11-30 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In science, engineering and economics, decision problems are frequently modelled by optimizing the value of a (primary) objective function under stated feasibility constraints. In many cases of practical relevance, the optimization problem structure does not warrant the global optimality of local solutions; hence, it is natural to search for the globally best solution(s). Global Optimization in Action provides a comprehensive discussion of adaptive partition strategies to solve global optimization problems under very general structural requirements. A unified approach to numerous known algorithms makes possible straightforward generalizations and extensions, leading to efficient computer-based implementations. A considerable part of the book is devoted to applications, including some generic problems from numerical analysis, and several case studies in environmental systems analysis and management. The book is essentially self-contained and is based on the author's research, in cooperation (on applications) with a number of colleagues. Audience: Professors, students, researchers and other professionals in the fields of operations research, management science, industrial and applied mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics and the environmental sciences.

Book Electrochemical Evaluation of Ionic Liquids for Biphasic Extraction of Metal Ions Common to Spent Nuclear Fue

Download or read book Electrochemical Evaluation of Ionic Liquids for Biphasic Extraction of Metal Ions Common to Spent Nuclear Fue written by Thomas J. Stockmann and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past 30 years electrochemistry at a liquid liquid interface has been used to observe and quantify simple ion transfer (IT) as well as ligand assisted, or facilitated ion transfer (FIT) reactions. Liquid liquid electrochemistry has developed to where valuable thermodynamic constants – for example, the metal ion to ligand stoichiometry and overall complexation constant, in FIT - can be evaluated using cyclic voltammetry (CV). Recently, ionic liquids (ILs) have shown greater metal ion extraction efficiencies in water-IL biphasic separations relative to conventional molecular organic solvents. In this way, they are of interest to the nuclear industry for applications in spent nuclear fuel (sometimes called nuclear waste) recycling. Herein, liquid liquid electrochemistry has been used to investigate FIT of metal ions typically found in SNF at traditional water organic solvent (w/o) and novel water ionic liquid (w/o and w/o interface. For example, [SrCMPO3]+ had equal to 5.5 × 1025 and 1.3 × 1034 for the w/o and w.

Book Chiral Recognition in Separation Methods

Download or read book Chiral Recognition in Separation Methods written by Alain Berthod and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-16 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What drives a scientist to edit a book on a speci c scienti c subject such as chiral mechanisms in separation methods? Until December 2005, the journal Analytical Chemistry of the American Chemical Society (Washington, DC) had an A-page section that was dedicated to simple and clear presentations of the most recent te- niques or the state of the art in a particular eld or topic. The “A-page” section was prepared for a broad audience of chemists including industrial professionals, s- dents as well as academics looking for information outside their eld of expertise. 1 Daniel W. Armstrong, one of the editors of this journal and a twenty-year+ long friend, invited me to present my view on chiral recognition mechanisms in a simple and clear way in an “A-page” article. In 2006, the “A-page” section was maintained as the rst articles at the beginning of each rst bi-monthly issue but the pagination was no longer page distinguished from the regular research articles published by the journal. During the time between the invitation and the submission, the A-page section was integrated into the rest of the journal and the article appeared as (2006) Anal Chem (78):2093–2099.
