Book Metal Fabrics for Aerospace Expandable Structures

Download or read book Metal Fabrics for Aerospace Expandable Structures written by and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many aerospace structures under current development require utilization of flexible, textile-like fabrics having high strength at elevated temperatures To minimize form-drag during launch, these aerospace structures must have a small pre deployment volume. Thus, the fabric must be capable of being folded, packaged, and subsequently deployed without suffering damage. The most suitable candidate materials available in filament form at the present time are the superalloys and the refractory metals and their alloys. Under the sponsorship of the Fibrous Materials Branch of the Air Force Materials laboratory, the feasibility of weaving fabric from multifilament yarns, composed of metal filaments as fine as 0.0005 inch in diameter, on modified, power textile equipment has been demonstrated.

Book Analytical and Experimental Investigation of Coated Metal Fabric Expandable Structures for Aerospace Applications

Download or read book Analytical and Experimental Investigation of Coated Metal Fabric Expandable Structures for Aerospace Applications written by GOODYEAR AEROSPACE CORP AKRON OH. and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of research and development work on pressure-expanded metal fabric structures for aerospace applications are reported and discussed. This work includes methods of structural analysis, experimental investigation of the stress-strain characteristics and other mechanical properties of metal fabrics and AIRMAT, and development of fabrication techniques (spotwelding, AIRMAT weaving and coating). A series of tests was conducted on metal fabric cylinders and AIRMAT beams and panels for exploration of their structural response (deflections, wrinkling and collapse, structural failure, creep, hysteresis, fatigue, and behavior at elevated temperature). Test data are correlated to theoretical results where applicable. (Author).

Book Manufacturing Technology for Aerospace Structural Materials

Download or read book Manufacturing Technology for Aerospace Structural Materials written by Flake C Campbell Jr and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-08-31 with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapidly-expanding aerospace industry is a prime developer and user of advanced metallic and composite materials in its many products. This book concentrates on the manufacturing technology necessary to fabricate and assemble these materials into useful and effective structural components. Detailed chapters are dedicated to each key metal or alloy used in the industry, including aluminum, magnesium, beryllium, titanium, high strength steels, and superalloys. In addition the book deals with composites, adhesive bonding and presents the essentials of structural assembly. This book will be an important resource for all those involved in aerospace design and construction, materials science and engineering, as well as for metallurgists and those working in related sectors such as the automotive and mass transport industries. Flake Campbell Jr has over thirty seven years experience in the aerospace industry and is currently Senior Technical Fellow at the Boeing Phantom Works in Missouri, USA. * All major aerospace structural materials covered: metals and composites* Focus on details of manufacture and use* Author has huge experience in aerospace industry* A must-have book for materials engineers, design and structural engineers, metallurgical engineers and manufacturers for the aerospace industry

Book Re Entry

Download or read book Re Entry written by C Morrow and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ballistic Missile and Aerospace Technology, Volume IV: Re-entry is a collection of manuscripts presented at the Sixth Symposium on Ballistic Missile and Aerospace Technology, held in Los Angeles, California, in August 1961. This book is organized into two parts encompassing nine chapters that highlight the re-entry vehicle design information and re-entry thermal protection and materials. Part I deals first with a parametric study on the effects of initial conditions and various mass and aerodynamic parameters on the dynamic motion of a typical re-entry vehicle. This parametric study specifically examines both spinning and non-spinning re-entry at high angles of attack. This part also demonstrates the degree of departure from thermodynamic equilibrium for the various chemical reactions along a typical streamtube to be expected under different flight conditions. This topic is followed by discussions on power-handling capability of antennas operating in the presence of plasmas; the mechanism of self-excited oscillations at transonic speeds; and the computation of three-dimensional steady supersonic flow fields. Part II presents a theoretical analysis of similarity paramaters of evaporative film cooling for blunt bodies. This part then explores the application of ultrasonics to ablation studies. The remaining chapters describe a self-contained, thermally protective mechanism, which is activated by a catalyst that operates within a composite material. These chapters also consider the developmental trends in aerospace materials.
