Book Transition Metal Complexes as Drugs and Chemotherapeutic Agents

Download or read book Transition Metal Complexes as Drugs and Chemotherapeutic Agents written by N. Farrell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When this book was first conceived as a project the expanding interest in the clinical use of platinum and gold complexes made a survey of the relevant biological properties of metal complexes timely and appropriate. This timeliness has not diminished during the gestation and final publica tion of the manuscript. The introduction contains an explanation of the layout and approach to the book, which I wrote as an overall survey of the wide variety of biological properties of metal complexes. Hopefully, the reader will see the parallels in mechanisms and behavior, even in different organisms. The writing was considerably helped by the enthusiasm and confidence (totally unearned on my part) in the project of Professor Brian James and lowe him my special thanks. I also owe a great debt of gratitude to my colleagues, and especially to Eucler Paniago, of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, for their comprehension and for the initial leave of absence which allowed me to begin the project. To those who read some or all of the manuscript and made suggestions, Bernhard Lippert, Kirsten Skov, and Tom Tritton, as well as the editor's reviewer I am also grateful. As usual, the final responsibility for errors or otherwise rests with the author.

Book Metal Complexes of Sulfur Containing Ligands

Download or read book Metal Complexes of Sulfur Containing Ligands written by Shailey Singhal and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-02 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Present book provides an insight to the synthesis, characterization and structural analysis of compounds containing nitrogen and sulfur containing chelating agents. Keeping in mind the biological, medicinal, industrial and chelating importance of sulfur (alone) and nitrogen containing donor ligands, two important chelating agents, viz Potassium-2-trithiocarbonatoethyl xanthate (PTEX) and 2-amino-4-benzamido thiosemicarbazide (ABTSC) have been discussed in details w.r.t. their synthesis, characterization and metals complexes. All the possible techniques have been dealt in order to elucidate the structures of the complexes generated.

Book Structural and Biological Applications of Schiff Base Metal Complexes

Download or read book Structural and Biological Applications of Schiff Base Metal Complexes written by Pallavi Jain and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coordination compounds have been well-known for their wide variety of applications for over a century, as well as enhancing the researcher’s interest and concern in evaluating their action mechanism. It is certainly one of the most intensely discussed research topics. Coordination compounds involve different metal-ion-ligand phenomenon. The involved metal ions play a significant role in structural association and functioning of several processes in the genetic and metabolism system. In recent years, Schiff base ligands have gained significant interest and received a keen interest of many researchers. Schiff’s base ligands have been recognized to hold a wide variety of biological and medicinal activities due to the presence of donor atoms. They have proved exceptional pharmalogical actions such as antimicrobial, anti-tuberclosis, antiplatelet, antidiabetic, antiarthritis, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antiviral, antimalarial, and analgesic. These biologically active Schiff base ligands have also been shown to inhibit enzyme mobilization and, when bound to a metal ion, exhibit enhanced biological activity, making them useful in a number of fields. As a result, metal complexes of Schiff base ligands are gaining popularity due to their unique properties and functionalities. Schiff base complex-based research for educational and industrial purposes is booming, and the number of publications is gradually increasing. Despite these interests, there is currently no detailed book on Schiff base metal complexes that covers the structures, biological activities, and other non-biological perspectives. This book delves into the structures of Schiff base metal complexes, which are critical in assessing the biological viability of any complex. It also highlights their biological significance in pharma and drug discovery like antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritis, anti-diabetic, antioxidants, anti-proliferative, antitumor, anticancer, antiviral. The fundamentals of metal complexes are described, as well as an up-to-date outline of developments in synthesis, characterization methods, properties- chemical, thermal, optical, structural, and applications. This book also discusses the other applications of Schiff base metal complexes: as sensor (luminescent, electrochemical, and biosensor), as pigments in dying and paint industries, as photocatalyst to improve the degradation rate. Features : This book would be useful for academia, researchers and engineers working in the area of Schiff base and their metal complexes. This book will give an in-depth account of the properties of Schiff base and their metal complexes. This book will discuss the details of synthesis methods for Schiff base and their metal complexes. This book will cover emerging trends in the use of Schiff base metal complexes in the industry. This book will provide an overview of the wider biological applications of Schiff base metal complexes

Book Ligand Design in Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing the potency of therapeutic compounds, while limiting side-effects, is a common goal in medicinal chemistry. Ligands that effectively bind metal ions and also include specific features to enhance targeting, reporting, and overall efficacy are driving innovation in areas of disease diagnosis and therapy. Ligand Design in Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry presents the state-of-the-art in ligand design for medicinal inorganic chemistry applications. Each individual chapter describes and explores the application of compounds that either target a disease site, or are activated by a disease-specific biological process. Ligand design is discussed in the following areas: Platinum, Ruthenium, and Gold-containing anticancer agents Emissive metal-based optical probes Metal-based antimalarial agents Metal overload disorders Modulation of metal-protein interactions in neurodegenerative diseases Photoactivatable metal complexes and their use in biology and medicine Radiodiagnostic agents and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) agents Carbohydrate-containing ligands and Schiff-base ligands in Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry Metalloprotein inhibitors Ligand Design in Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry provides graduate students, industrial chemists and academic researchers with a launching pad for new research in medicinal chemistry.
