Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book offers an essential overview of brain, head and neck, and spine imaging. Over the last few years, there have been considerable advances in this area, driven by both clinical and technological developments. Written by leading international experts and teachers, the chapters are disease-oriented and cover all relevant imaging modalities, with a focus on magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography. The book also includes a synopsis of pediatric imaging. IDKD books are rewritten (not merely updated) every four years, which means they offer a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art in imaging. The book is clearly structured and features learning objectives, abstracts, subheadings, tables and take-home points, supported by design elements to help readers navigate the text. It will particularly appeal to general radiologists, radiology residents, and interventional radiologists who want to update their diagnostic expertise, as well as clinicians from other specialties who are interested in imaging for their patient care.

Download or read book Central Nervous System written by E. Genazzani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the Symposium "Metabolic Regulation and Functional Activity in the Central Nervous System" which was held on September 16 and 17, 1972, at Saint Vincent (Aosta)/Italy, and was sponsored by the Accademia di Medicina di Torino with the scientific cooperation of the Istituto di Farmacologia, Universita di Torino, and the Pharmakologisches Institut der Freien Universitat Berlin. Its purpose was to give a greater number of scientists from different countries an opportunity to report their latest results under a heading concerning general relationships between metabolism and function. We quite deliberately refrained from pursuing the partly heterogenous subjects into details. Thus, the organizers hoped to be able to interest a greater circle of readers for the manifold subjects from various fields dealing with the investigation of metabolic processes in the central nervous system. The discussion remarks to the lectures could not be considered for printing. The Accademia di Medicina di Torino and all others concerned do not only thank Dr. R. Di Carlo and other members of the Istituto di Farmacologia, Universita di Torino, for the excellent work they performed in preparing this Symposium, but also the Amministrazione Regionale della Valle di Aosta and SIT A V di Saint-Vincent for their generous support and their kind hospitality which made the stay at Saint-Vincent most agreeable for all participants.

Book Fuel Homeostasis and the Nervous System

Download or read book Fuel Homeostasis and the Nervous System written by Mladen Vranic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has a dual purpose, to review in depth the control of fuel homeostasis in the brain and the role of the nervous system in the control of fuel deposition in the body. From the methodological point of view the emphasis is on the application of advanced technologies to assess fuel transport and brain metabolism, the role of peptides in the neuroendocrine system and the response of the brain to hypoglycemia. These technologies include positron emmission tomography, nuclear magnetic resonance, immunocytochemistry, molecular biology, autoradiography. To study fuel homeostasis in the body advanced tracer methods that include modelling are set out. From the pathophysiological point of view the emphasis is on abnormalities in stress, brain metabolism in diabetes, eating and degenerative disorders. This book contains contributions from endocrinologists, physiologists, neurologists, psychoneuroendocrinOlogists, biophysicists, biochemists and experts in nutrition. This authorship represents a unique diversity of researchers who, for the first time, cover comprehensively the interaction between the nervous system and fuel homeostasis, both in health and disease. We hope this book will be an important source of information for both researchers and practicing clinicians. Mladen Vranic Suad Efendic Charles Hollenberg v ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The Symposium from which this volume arose (University of Toronto, June 27-28, 1990) was the first Toronto-Stockholm symposium on Perspectives in Diabetes Research. These Symposia are organized triennially by the Banting and Best Diabetes Centre, University of Toronto and the Department of Endocrinology, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm.

Book A History of the Chronic Degenerative Diseases of the Central Nervous System Classic Reprint

Download or read book A History of the Chronic Degenerative Diseases of the Central Nervous System Classic Reprint written by Thomas Kirkpatrick Monro and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-22 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the Chronic Degenerative Diseases of the Central Nervous System The essays included in this work formed part of a Graduation Thesis entitled Essays in Neurology: Historical and Clinical, and are now reprinted, with but slight alterations, from the Glasgow Medical Journal for 1895. They are historical studies of those chronic disorders which depend upon primary degenerative changes in the structure of the central nervous system. It is still doubtful whether the peroneal type of family amyotrophy ought to be admitted to this list, but its history is not lengthy, and I have thought it best to include it in the series. On the other hand, I have decided to leave out of consideration in this place two diseases primary optic atrophy and general paralysis of the insane which might, from many points of view, be regarded as belonging to this group. Each essay is introduced by a list of designations which have been applied to the disease whose history it narrates. The references collected at the end of each essay are in tended to indicate only such treatises and articles as I have myself consulted in the preparation of the essay; and for the constant courtesy and kindness with which he has assisted me to get access to this large body of literature, my hearty thanks are due to Mr. Alex. Duncan, Librarian to the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
