Book Mergers and Acquisitions in the Energy Sector Evidence of Central East Europe

Download or read book Mergers and Acquisitions in the Energy Sector Evidence of Central East Europe written by Milica Hadzi Djordjevic and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is little evidence about M&A transactions in the energy sector and particularly in the CEE region. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to try to fill up the described gap in academic research. The main research question, which will be answered with the help of hypotheses in the empirical part is therefore: Are there positive impacts on the share price of energy target companies in CEE at the announcement date of an acquisition? To get a better understanding, of abnormal returns of target companies surrounding the announcement date, further questions are postulated: - Do horizontal acquisitions or industry relatedness influence the value effect of M&As in a positive way? - Do Cross-border acquisitions have a positive impact on the wealth effect of the energy sector in CEE? - Does majority ownership after a transaction influence the target in a positive way?

Book Regulating Mergers and Acquisitions of U S Electric Utilities Industry Concentration and Corporate Complication

Download or read book Regulating Mergers and Acquisitions of U S Electric Utilities Industry Concentration and Corporate Complication written by Scott Hempling and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-30 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens when electric utility monopolies pursue their acquisition interests—undisciplined by competition, and insufficiently disciplined by the regulators responsible for replicating competition? Since the mid-1980s, mergers and acquisitions of U.S. electric utilities have halved the number of local, independent utilities. Mostly debt-financed, these transactions have converted retiree-suitable investments into subsidiaries of geographically scattered conglomerates. Written by one of the U.S.’s leading regulatory thinkers, this book combines legal, accounting, economic and financial analysis of the 30-year march of U.S. electricity mergers with insights from the dynamic field of behavioral economics.

Book Branding Strategies After Mergers Acquisitions

Download or read book Branding Strategies After Mergers Acquisitions written by Laura Calvo Fernández and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-12 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last few decades have been characterized by high levels in merger and acquisition activity, and this trend continues to be a very popular form of corporate and profitable growth. In the current context of globalization, the process becomes more complex when entering new markets. Capturing the intangible value in the merger, and growing that value through integration, it is a complex and poorly understood challenge. As a consequence of the increasing foreign economic activity, companies need to pay more attention in the creation of a strong brand that may compete internationally. This book examines the alternatives that companies have in branding strategies after mergers and acquisitions and its subsequent economic and financial consequences. Concretely, a qualitative study is performed to analyze the main advantages and disadvantages of each brand strategy through a multiple case study of four leading companies within the energy sector in the Nordic countries. In addition, a descriptive and exploratory research is carried out in order to suggest the more appropriate brand strategy.

Book The Role of Cross Border Mergers and Acquisitions in Energy Security

Download or read book The Role of Cross Border Mergers and Acquisitions in Energy Security written by Ning Wu and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, national and global energy security has become a key political and economic issue, and the players in this global energy game are also diversified. Corresponding to the diversified sectors and multiple components, energy security can be studied from a number of perspectives. We will focus on the behavior of energy companies in this study. Specifically, we are to examine the role the cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&As) of oil & gas companies can play in energy security. The upcoming analysis comprisesof four parts. The Background section reviews the global energy security from the angle of national consumption and production, followed by a brief analysis of global oil and gas industry and market. The status quo of major oil and gas companies will be reviewed and global M&As' landscape is illustrated in the section as well. The second part is our primary focus, exploring the cross-border M&As in energy industry, in particular, oil and gas companies. This literature review will examine how those energy transactions can influence the competition, economy and national welfare, and other related aspects. Then we concentrate on the features and drives of energy M&As based on transaction records available, and attention is paid to the valuation of post-merger performance of acquirers. The third section aims at providing practical knowledge for energy M&As by integrating some legal and financial knowledge in the business world.

Book excerpt: The ultimate guide to the ongoing consolidation of the utilities industry Roll-Up delves into the rich history of utilities consolidation—from the original, highly fragmented U.S. industry structure, through the development of industry views on consolidation and participation, to the drivers and events occurring in the cycles of the modern era, from 1995–2020. Expert utilities consultant Tom Flaherty interviewed eleven current or former chief executive officers, investment bankers, attorneys, and ratings analysts who provided introspection and commentary on their experiences with consolidation in the modern era. These notable individuals made the tough decisions about whether to pursue a transaction, evaluated the logic of potential combinations, crafted merger agreements, designed the process for successful outcomes, and guided the execution of mergers through the strategy, financing, regulatory, and integration processes. In Roll-Up, Flaherty has combined these interviews of experts in the utilities industry with detailed research and decades of experience to explore topics like • the changing motivations for combinations, • hands-on perspectives of successful transaction execution, • the current nature of business simplification and portfolio rationalization, • what could happen next for utility mergers and acquisitions. Roll-Up covers the past and present of utilities consolidation and looks over the horizon at how future transactions might evolve beyond those historically conducted.

Book Competition Policy and Merger Analysis in Deregulated and Newly Competitive Industries

Download or read book Competition Policy and Merger Analysis in Deregulated and Newly Competitive Industries written by Peter C. Carstensen and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thorough analyses presented in the book provide the reader with a good overview of the deregulation process in the respective industries. . . Competition Policy and Merger Analysis in Deregulated and Newly Competitive Industries is a valuable resource for researchers of law, economics, and political science. . . Volker Soyez, European Competition Law Review This comprehensive book contains case studies on the evolution of competition policy, with an emphasis on merger policy, for seven major US industries that have experienced substantial deregulation in the past forty years electricity, natural gas, telecommunications, railroads, airlines, hospitals and banking. Also included is a comparison of the EU s experience in attempting to bring about competition in the energy, finance, and airline industries. The contributors to the volume, each a recognized expert on the industry examined, explore the positive and negative implications of the substitution of market-oriented processes for historic patterns of command and control regulation. The chapters reveal clear similarities in the economic, legal and public policy issues that have arisen following deregulation of these economic sectors. Together they provide a good basis to discern the consistency of the problems and the relative success of differing responses to these issues over a range of industries going through similar transformation. While taking a basically positive view of the movement away from direct regulation, the contributors identify a number of continuing problems with achieving workable competition in these industries. The thorough analyses presented here will be of great value to law, economics, and political science researchers interested in deregulation, economic consultants advising government agencies or private parties, attorneys who focus on deregulated industries, policy planners at the agencies overseeing these industries, and students in advanced seminars on economic regulation.
