Book Mercantile Credit Classic Reprint

Download or read book Mercantile Credit Classic Reprint written by James Edward Hagerty and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-02 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mercantile Credit This volume represents an attempt to discuss one branch of the credit family, Mercantile Credit. The theory of credit, and the different kinds of credit are considered only in so far as the treatment of these subjects makes more clear the nature, scope, and functions of mercantile credit. Bankruptcy legislation has to do largely with those who give and those who receive mercantile loans, and for this reason it has been considered of sufficient importance to warrant treatment. While treating mercantile credit from a theoretical standpoint, an attempt is made to view the problems of mercantile credit as far as possible as a business man would view them. For this reason the author has described with much detail the work of the credit man, the organization of his office, the sources of credit information, the forms he uses to secure this information, and the principles which govern him in the granting of credit. He also discusses at considerable length the development of legislation with reference to credit, and the attitude of credit men toward this legislation. There are two general classes of credit - public credit and private credit - but political economists usually divide credit into five classes: mercantile, per sonal, banking, public and investment credit. This volume makes reference to mercantile credit only, no attempt being made to discuss the other branches of credit classes. The suggestions offered are based upon practical experience, and the book is intended for credit men and for those interested in the subject of mercantile credit generally from a practical business standpoint. Download or read book Mercantile Credits written by Finley H. McAdow and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-03 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mercantile Credits: A Practical Study of the Credit Man's Work The purpose of this book is to serve as a means for a more careful study of some of the problems involved in the granting of mercantile credits, and of the principles to be applied in the solution of those problems. In addition to giving this direct assistance, it is hoped that the book will stimulate and encourage a more careful study of the credit question in general. Now, as in the past, men come into the credit field without previous preparation and learn mostly by experience. Their entrance into this line of work is generally the result of fortuitous circumstances rather than of any purposeful plan. The author himself became a credit man in this haphazard way, passing on credits having been simply added in the course of time to his other duties. Notwithstanding that perhaps the majority of credit men have secured their training in some such way as this, this method of training credit men in the hard school of experience is not only laborious to the men themselves, but unquestionably also expensive to the employing firm, as during the years in which experience is being gained the standard of efficiency in the credit work is bound to be lower than if the men did not rely entirely on experience but supplemented it by study. What has been written in the following pages may help to make the acquisition of some of this knowledge a less arduous task. Book Whom to Trust

Download or read book Whom to Trust written by Peter R. Earling and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Whom to Trust: A Practical Treatise on Mercantile Credits This treatise on "Mercantile Credits" is the outgrowth of frequent requests 011 the part of business friends of the miter to give them the benefit of his experience "in making credits," so far, at least, as that might be possible in a very condensed form, and by laying down and illustrating a few fundamental principles. An analysis, however, of the subject showed that a few off-hand rules and directions on " when and when not to make credits" would be inadequate, if not quite useless, since in 110 two applications for credit are the conditions the same. In the attempt, then, to be of service even to a few personal friends, it was found necessary to treat the subject in a comprehensive manner, and although this involved the systematic and consecutive arrangement and assimilation of a vast quantity of material, and a close scrutiny of its relationship, the task was, nevertheless, deemed worthy the effort. No apology for presenting this volume to the public is offered. But several valid reasons can be pointed out for its publication. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mercantile Credits: A Series of Practical Lectures Delivered Before the Young Men's Christian Association of Los Angeles, California First, upon the business wisdom of accepting or refusing the opportunities offered. Second, upon a hurried review of the legal problems involved. It is impossible to keep an attorney constantly at his elbow to pass upon every trans action, and therefore he must have a working knowledge of business law. Third, upon keen judgment of human nature and human character. The aphorism of Alexander Pope, The proper study of mankind is man, applies with greater force to the business man than to others. Obviously the taxpayer is not entitled to recover or extinguish through amortization more than the difference between the war cost of such property and what he can sell the property for after the war, or if he continues to need and use it in his business, what it would have cost him after the war. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Secret of Progress Buckle1 regarded it as clear that militarism and high intellectual development were not compatible: till recently, many people were prepared to believe that warfare was alien to the interest of civilised peoples and could only occur among half civilised or backward races. But this war has shown that these hopes were vain, and that the last result of civilisation was not to render war impossible, but to give the means of carrying it out on a vastly extended scale. The increase of knowledge and of power over nature, and the sense of the benefits of intercourse and inter-communication have not sufficed to give us any immunity from war. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Practical Treatise on the Business of Banking and Commercial For some years I have been of the opinion that the condi tion of the commercial world would be much improved if business men had a more comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental principles of banking and mercantile credits. The banker is the criterion of business men. His methods and mode of doing business exemplify the very best business principles. That a knowledge of these methods and principles of business will be of benefit to every business man is self evident. Every man, no matter what his calling, should understand the business of banking. Such knowledge will not only enable him to obtain valuable assistance and many favors at the hands of his bankers, but the fundamental prin ciples of business as here taught will enable him to carry his own affairs to a higher degree of perfection-and profit. This book is as much for the merchant as for the banker. In the part of this book devoted to credits the business man will find a guide that will enable him to trust out his goods to those who will pay for them. It will teach those not engaged in business to conduct themselves in such a manner as to merit the confidence and thereby the credit favors of the busi ness community. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Compendium of Mercantile Law This edition of Mr. Smith's excellent treatise on Mer cantile Law will be found to differ materially, and it is hoped for the better, from the last. The present Editor has carefully revised all the notes originally prepared by him, constituting much the larger portion of the American additions to the work. He has not taken as large a liberty with the contributions of Judge Gholson, but has appended to them a statement of the most important points which have been since adjudicated on their subjects, by the Eu glish and American courts. He has endeavored so to select, arrange and condense from the mass of learning before him, as to compress within the limits of this volume the most important expositions of commercial law by the American courts. With what success the task has been accomplished, he submits to the judgment of the profession. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
