Book Countryside Planning

Download or read book Countryside Planning written by Kevin Bishop and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-23 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not since the 19th century has the future of the countryside been such a focus of political and public attention, nor of profound uncertainty and anguished debate. A watershed has now been reached, and in this time of unprecedented change, new tools are needed for planning and managing the countryside. Increasingly the 'drivers' of countryside management and conservation are European and international. They aim to provide comprehensive new frameworks for the whole countryside, and encourage community-driven planning and protection. There have been numerous responses at the country and local levels within the UK. In this book, a broad range of scholars and practitioners review the international drivers affecting countryside policy and practice, and - through a variety of case studies - they assess the value of country and local responses. The result is a powerful and coherent volume that provides a fully up-to-date review and analysis of the pressures on the countryside, the policies for the future and the keys to successful implementation. Countryside Planning is essential reading for planners, local authorities and rural organizations, conservationists and environmental groups, as well as academics and students in planning, rural studies, environmental studies and geography.

  • ISBN : 1134889526
  • Pages : 214 pages

Download or read book Facadism written by Jonathan Richards and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-09-11 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Facadism - the preservation of historic facades, the creation of facsimiles in front of new buildings and the decorative exercises of postmodernism - is accused of destroying architectural innovation, of divorcing the interior and exterior of buildings and of reducing townscapes to theatre sets. Its defenders describe facadism as the way urban tradition and progress walk hand in hand. Facadism presents a critical analysis of a concept central to the way in which the city is being remodelled. Assessing architectural and townscape philosophies and their aesthetics, the principles of urban conservation, the process of heritage planning and the market forces of urban development, the book builds a complete picture of the causes and effects of facadism in the Twentieth Century.

Book The Story of Active and in Touch Frome 2011 2021

Download or read book The Story of Active and in Touch Frome 2011 2021 written by John Samways and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-11-11 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The coronavirus pandemic has not only been terrifying—it has been revealing. In April 2020, Oliver Dowden, a member of parliament in the United Kingdom, said, “Coronavirus and social distancing have forced all of us to look loneliness in the eye. Recognizing the signs and tackling the stigma has never been more important.” The Story of Active and In Touch Frome recounts the extraordinary way “a whim of an idea” was planted in the local community of Frome in eastern Somerset, England, in 2011. The following decade witnessed a series of serendipitous moments that prepared a local charity to confront the unimaginable challenges of the pandemic. In June, A&IT received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the United Kingdom. Although this story focuses upon a local charity, it highlights how every community can muster the courage to “look loneliness in the eye” and help to build greater community cohesion.
