Book excerpt: This book provides a well-researched biblical and scientific overview of abuse. A broad overview, it deals with the various types of abuse, the various effects of abuse, and the means of healing. Abuse can be sexual, physical, neglect, spiritual, and verbal. The chief arguments pursued throughout the book are: (1) abuse is far more rampant than most Christians realize, but due to human depravity and satanic influence, widespread abuse is predicable. (2) All types of abuse create profound, long-term soul damage due to the way abuse perverts various aspects of the image of God. (3) God is the healing redeemer. Human salvation came through horrible physical abuse. (4) Healing must take place in the context of relationships. Humans are deeply impacted by others due to being made in the image of God. Just as surely as abusive relationships have tremendous power to wound the soul, so healthy relationships have tremendous power to nurture and heal the soul. Questions answered in the book include: - How can a genuine believer abuse a child? - Why would someone abuse a child? - How can parents and childrens’ workers identify abusers? - How can abuse victims heal? - What does genuine healing look like? - Is anger appropriate or hurtful for abuse victims? - Where does forgiveness fit in? Helpful sample child protection policy, application, screening interview, and warning signs of potential abusers equip ministry leaders. Illustrations, case studies, and art therapy drawings.

Book Soul Journeying

Download or read book Soul Journeying written by Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D. and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2017-07-25 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating book by best-selling author, psychologist, and medical anthropologist Alberto Villoldo explains the practices for healing outside of ordinary time and space. It shows you how to enter the timeless now to heal events that occurred in the past, and to correct the course of destiny. Dr. Villoldo discusses ways in which you can heal yourself and your loved ones by employing intention through practices used by shamans of the Americas —which, until now, have been inaccessible to most of the world. The shamans of old called this journeying. In this book, you’ll discover that you have a four-chambered heart in the same way you have a four-chambered soul. In the first chamber, you store away the memory of a wound that derailed your destiny. In the second, you keep the limiting beliefs and soul contracts that you entered into at the time of your loss. In the third, you recover the grace and trust that will make you whole again; and in the fourth, you remember the calling and mission that you choose to unfold in this lifetime. “While everyone has a future,” Villoldo says, &lquo;only certain people have a destiny.” This book shows you how to find and manifest yours.

Download or read book Mending the Heart written by John Claypool and published by Cowley Publications. This book was released on 1999-01-25 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In three meditations John Claypool speaks eloquently of the wounds all of us carry through life—the wounds of grievance, guilt, and grief—and how they can be healed. The wound of grievance comes from our suffering at the hands of others, we are pierced by guilt when we inflict pain in return, and we suffer grief when we are hurt by loss. By anecdote and personal example, Claypool helps us see that all these wounds can eventually be healed through the gifts of insight, forgiveness, and gratitude. With the help of scripture and Claypool's own pastoral wisdom, Mending the Heart is a powerful tool for reflection. Each meditation begins with verses from the psalms and ends with a prayer. This book is a wise resource for pastors and caregivers, especially in times of crisis and bereavement, but its simplicity and insight also make it a good guide to prayer and discernment as well as a fine gift book. Mending the Heart is the fourth in our series of Cloister Books: smaller format, gift edition books designed for meditative and devotional reading.

Book Healing of Soul Healing of Body

This book was released on 2012-01-20 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A source of solace and a healing resource for those who are facing illness, as well as those who care for them. For centuries, people have turned to the Book of Psalms for solace, comfort, and catharsis, seeking guidance, meaning, hope, and reassurance—in short, spiritual healing. This book is intended to help you—struggling with illness or helping someone who is—derive spiritual healing from Psalms. In the late 18th century, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov designated ten of the 150 entries in the Book of Psalms as “healing psalms,” and we present these ten to you, newly translated, for your personal exploration and expression. "Acknowledging that the Biblical Psalms can be somewhat alien to many people, we asked ten spiritual leaders to provide a bridge, a form of access, to these ancient poems of pain and praise, of humility and hope." —from the Introduction

Download or read book Fire in the Soul written by Joan Borysenko and published by . This book was released on 2014-07-02 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gifted healer Joan Borysenko believes that the wounds we suffer - and heal from - can be gateways to a transformation of the spirit, one that not only nourishes our souls but blesses us with the potential to help our world. In this enlightening book, Dr. Borysenko goes beyond psychology as currently practiced and taps a deeper vein of healing. She reveals to us the power of spiritual optimism, a philosophy that views life crises as opportunities for personal growth and spiritual homecoming. Drawing on her own experiences with tragedy and illness, as well as on anecdotes from her therapy patients, the author combines scientific knowledge with wisdom and insight to show how the most devastating events can initiate a fruitful search for meaning; how wrestling with the demons of pain, strife, and illness can lead us to discover our wholeness; and how meditation, prayer, and heightened awareness can serve as shining beacons during the proverbial "dark night of the soul." These are the times when the soul is on fire, fueled by torment and despair. Yet this same soul burns with an inner flame that can consume old beliefs and negative opinions, allowing a new soul to be born. Thus our darkest moments can lead to spiritual resurrection, bringing us closer to our true hearts...and to the heart of healing. Getting there, however, is never easy. "Dark nights of the soul" are perilous emotional voyages through stormy seas of suffering. Here the terrain is shadowy and home seems far, far away; here, most of us need a light to navigate by. "Fire in the Soul" is that light, an inspiring and knowing guide to spiritual safe haven in times of loss and pain. Its insight will help you shed self-blame, heal childhood wounds, and gain strength from adversity so that you can find the goodness that is everywhere and feel the love that lights our universe. This book also features a practical resource section listing books, tapes, and addresses of helpful individuals and organizations. One of its most comforting chapters contains stories, poems, and quotations to help restore and revitalize spiritual optimism. And that is the first step to leading a life filled with faith, love, and courage.
