Download or read book Menage a Trois Other Stories written by Jack Swenson and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A hit man gets some work in Sin City, a tryst goes awry for a pair of senior citizens, an alcoholic cop makes a dramatic appearance at a rehab, a young man makes a midnight visit to some friends' bedroom. All these tales and many more in Menage a Trois & Other Stories, a book of flash fiction by Jack Swenson. The prose snapshots in this book crackle with energy, irony, and humor. Less is more, indeed, in this collection of stories from the author of Bad Apples. Some of the stories are only a few hundred words long, but they pack a punch. The writing is lean and mean, often humorous, and always revealing. If you like Raymond Carver's gritty stories and the bare bones style of Elmore Leonard, you'll love these little tales. You'll laugh, cry, wince, grin, and shake your head when you read the stories in this provocatively titled little book.

Download or read book Tranimacies written by Eliza Steinbock and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-24 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tranimacies is a neologism that pushes and pulls together transness and animality so as to better germinate unruly, wily, perverse relationships between them, and their spawn. Through tranimacies the book aims at rethinking the linking of liberation struggles amongst former colonized peoples and lands, minoritized genders and sexualities, racially marked persons and non-human animals, and does so in a variety of geopolitical and temporal sites. This rich compendium includes original scholarship and dialogues as well as poetry, comix, bioart, and performance documentation. The composite term of tranimacies enmeshes several everyday and scholarly concepts: transgender, animal, animacy, intimacies. This edited volume’s bundle of theoretical and artistic works insists on the beating heart of embodied experiences and political pulses at the core of these concepts. The authors show that tranimacies are spread throughout what Mel Y. Chen describes as the "animacy hierarchies" that delimit zones of possibility and agency, confounding the vertical order with transversal movements. As an intervention into the burgeoning debates within and across trans, animal, critical race, and posthuman studies this publication seeks to destabilize the logic of "turns" in critical theory, and through sticky intimacies uncover how animality, race, and gender underscore the humanist production of meanings. By taking a decolonial approach (in the main, but not exclusively) the authors hope to shift debates in animal studies towards accounting for and delinking from colonial mentalities. Three poems interweave our selection of chapters, which together forge three lines of inquiry defined by a certain ethos: transhistories of the present, lessons from the bestiary, and #animatingephemera. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Angelaki.
Download or read book The Gootesnooters written by Aria Quill and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2015-04-16 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gootesnooter story is fiction but with lessons. The Gootesnooter play is an easy read, in particular as a closet drama, which is a play better understood by reading; and/or as a play, script fashion, in two parts for either two short plays or one long play. A few “bad” (pun intended) acts but no foul language, teenager friendly and good laughs for the whole family.

Download or read book Governance in the Twenty first Century written by Canadian Centre for Management Development and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2000 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous administrative reforms during the past several decades, referred to as the "New Public Management," have altered government in a number of fundamental ways. These changes have, in turn, produced the need for even greater change if the public sector is to be capable of governing efficiently and responsibly. The challenges now facing government are numerous, including the need to recruit capable and committed young public servants, adapt to new information technology, manage changing intergovernmental relations, and, perhaps most important, hold the reformed administrative structures accountable to both political demands and legal standards. Some countries have already initiated new rounds of reform while others are still attempting to understand and absorb the consequences of changes motivated by new public management ideas. In Governance in the twenty-first century international experts recognise both the difficulty of making predictions and the need to consider the future in order to prepare the public sector for new challenges. The authors' predictions and recommendations are anchored in a thorough understanding of contemporary public administration. They point out that not only have previous reforms made yet more change necessary and inevitable but that the purpose of these reforms is to attempt to return government to the position of respect and competence it enjoyed in the past. B. Guy Peters is Maurice Falk Professor of American Government, Department of Political Science, University of Pittsburgh. Donald J. Savoie holds the Clément-Cormier Chair in Economic Development at the Université de Moncton, where he also teaches public administration.
