This book was released on 2018-11-19 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless sensors and sensor networks (WSNs) are nowadays becoming increasingly important due to their decisive advantages. Different trends towards the Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0 and 5G Networks address massive sensing and admit to have wireless sensors delivering measurement data directly to the Web in a reliable and easy manner. These sensors can only be supported, if sufficient energy efficiency and flexible solutions are developed for energy-aware wireless sensor nodes. In the last years, different possibilities for energy harvesting have been investigated showing a high level of maturity. This book gives therefore an overview on fundamentals and techniques for energy harvesting and energy transfer from different points of view. Different techniques and methods for energy transfer, management and energy saving on network level are reported together with selected interesting applications. The book is interesting for researchers, developers and students in the field of sensors, wireless sensors, WSNs, IoT and manifold application fields using related technologies. The book is organized in four major parts. The first part of the book introduces essential fundamentals and methods, while the second part focusses on vibration converters and hybridization. The third part is dedicated to wireless energy transfer, including both RF and inductive energy transfer. Finally, the fourth part of the book treats energy saving and management strategies. The main contents are: Essential fundamentals and methods of wireless sensors Energy harvesting from vibration Hybrid vibration energy converters Electromagnetic transducers Piezoelectric transducers Magneto-electric transducers Non-linear broadband converters Energy transfer via magnetic fields RF energy transfer Energy saving techniques Energy management strategies Energy management on network level Applications in agriculture Applications in structural health monitoring Application in power grids Prof. Dr. Olfa Kanoun is professor for measurement and sensor technology at Chemnitz university of technology. She is specialist in the field of sensors and sensor systems design.

Book Cooperative Robots and Sensor Networks

Download or read book Cooperative Robots and Sensor Networks written by Anis Koubâa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile robots and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have enabled great potentials and a large space for ubiquitous and pervasive applications. Robotics and WSNs have mostly been considered as separate research fields and little work has investigated the marriage between these two technologies. However, these two technologies share several features, enable common cyber-physical applications and provide complementary support to each other. The primary objective of book is to provide a reference for cutting-edge studies and research trends pertaining to robotics and sensor networks, and in particular for the coupling between them. The book consists of five chapters. The first chapter presents a cooperation strategy for teams of multiple autonomous vehicles to solve the rendezvous problem. The second chapter is motivated by the need to improve existing solutions that deal with connectivity prediction, and proposed a genetic machine learning approach for link-quality prediction. The third chapter presents an architecture for indoor navigation using an Android smartphone for guiding a variety of users, from sighted to the visually impaired, to their intended destination. In chapter four, the authors deal with accurate prediction modeling of ocean currents for underwater glider navigation. In chapter five, the authors discuss the challenges and limitations of RSS-based localization mechanisms and propose, EasyLoc, an autonomous and practical RSS-based localization technique that satisfies ease of deployment and implementation.

Book NEMS MEMS Technology and Devices

Download or read book NEMS MEMS Technology and Devices written by Selin Teo and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).This second book on the subject of MEMS covers contemporary topics of importance to science, engineering and the technology of materials. The emphasis of this book has been placed on Nanoelectromechanical Systems (NEMS) /Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) technology and devices. In particular, the associated symposium aimed to cover not only applications that involve MEMS design, but also its modeling, fabrication processes (e.g. semiconductors, polymers, etc.) lab-on-a-chip, and biophotonic medical devices (e.g. DNA, protein and cell-sorting, etc). The focus of these points of interest were the exploration of new devices, and process innovation and engineering application, especially as related to NEMS/MEMS technology and devices.Overall, this makes for a fascinating survey of the subject. Selected papers from a July 2009 symposium report on recent work in technology and devices of nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). Papers describe not only applications that involve MEMS design, but also modeling, fabrication processes, lab-on-a-chip, and biophotonic devices for applications such as protein and cell sorting. Material is in sections on modeling and simulation, photonics, microfluidics, biosensors, NEMS/MEMS for bio-applications, MEMS sensor and energy harvesting, and nano-fabrication.
