Book excerpt: A revelation about how Dash may or may not have spent the summer before raises the stakes even higher in this second installment of the eerie and enthralling Black Sand Beach series, perfect for fans of Gravity Falls, Rickety Stich, and Fake Blood. Dash and his crew might have stumbled upon the source of the evil at Black Sand Beach when they stumbled into the abandoned and haunted lighthouse, but when Lily reveals that she found Dash's journal there, the news is anything but comforting. The book is full of Dash's reflections on his trip to Black Sand Beach the previous summer. Only Dash doesn't recognize the journal or have any memory of being there. As the friends read the entries aloud, through flashbacks Dash's unsettling encounter with two ghost girls, a truly terrifying monster, and a life changing event make one thing very clear: Black Sand Beach isn't done with them yet. Deliciously creepy and difficult to put down, Do You Remember the Summer Before? returns readers to a supernatural shore they'll never forget.

Book The Au Revoir Of An Enormous Us

Download or read book The Au Revoir Of An Enormous Us written by Frank Iosue and published by Wheatmark, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-11-02 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A poem is an arena of apprehensions and associations; a "psychic ecosystem" unto itself, bounded, artificed and amplified through craft and language. Experience, emotion, imagination, intellect and artistry -- in a unique, uneasy marriage between what's thought and what's felt -- cohabitate on the page, expressly for the end of approximating (and, hopefully, achieving) the most resonant and illimitable expression of a poetic “reality”. In my poems, I seek to create experiences that destabilize and scavenge ordinary perception, and transform the "apparent" into epiphanies of revelation and realization. This collection contains the inventory of my life's poetic journey. The joys, sorrows, memories, and reveries; the people and places, the histories, and the voyages of imagination that populate these pages, form my testament to a world, whose presences, and absences, have accompanied me, and formed the fragile scaffolding for the little empire of my existence -- an intensely-felt world of a self, of an I, intimately environed and occupied by a brilliant otherness of those, and them, and it and you . . . An Enormous Us!

Download or read book The Memory Thieves Series Books 1 2 written by Joel Shulkin MD and published by Blackstone Publishing. This book was released on 2024-03-12 with total page 747 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some memories are meant to be forgotten—especially when they’re not yours. In this medical thriller series, Psychiatrist Cristina Silva is achieving miracles by prescribing a new memory-recovery drug. Until one of her patients jumps from an eight-story window to his death. Book 1: Adverse Effects Boston psychiatrist Cristina Silva understands her patients’ suffering better than most, because she’s lost her memories, too. Desperate to become herself again, she pops the same experimental drug she prescribes to her patients. And, like them, she remembers a little more each day. Until one of her patients, a successful accountant, jumps to his death. And as Cristina’s memories return, with them come violent visions and an incessant voice in her head. Maybe the drug isn’t safe after all. Then an enigmatic, possibly dangerous man appears at Cristina’s bus stop. He seems to know more about her life than she does and says she holds a secret that puts her life in danger. If she wants to survive, Cristina must stay on the medication and unlock those memories before it’s too late—even if the adverse effects of the drug could destroy her. Book 2: Toxic Effects Neuropsychiatrist Cristina Silva receives a startling phone call from her contact at the FBI: an assassin is crisscrossing the country, killing anyone connected to the now-defunct pharmaceutical company ReMind—people like Cristina. The literal femme fatale known as Dama Branca is unsure what’s preventing her from killing Cristina, but she senses their fates are entwined—with any luck, not fatally. Cristina’s spurned lover, Wilson, is investigating the suspicious deaths of local teens, and there are now terrified whispers of a hooded boogeyman called Sack Man. And when Cristina’s in danger, Wilson is never far away. With at least one killer in their wake, they must quickly determine what’s real and what’s not. Unlocking Cristina’s memories could save many lives—her own included.

Co-authored by Josie Wilson, mother of founding member Don Wilson, the heavily illustrated book contains data for over 50 of the band's sixties recording sessions. Angel Editing comments; "The manuscript is extremely well written. You can see that a lot of time has been taken to convey the facts accurately and chronologically. What also comes across very well is the human and emotional side of the manuscript. This biography is a definite must for Ventures fans all over the world."

Book Building and Remembering

Download or read book Building and Remembering written by Chris Urwin and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2023-02-28 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building and Remembering is a multidisciplinary study of how memory works in relation to the material past. Based on collaborative ethnoarchaeological research carried out in Orokolo Bay (Papua New Guinea), Chris Urwin explores oral traditions maintained and produced in relation to artifacts and stratigraphy. He shows how cultivation and construction bring people from Orokolo Bay into regular contact with pottery sherds and thin layers of black sand. Both the pottery and the sand are forms of material evidence that remind people of the movements and activities of their ancestors, and they help sustain stories of origins and connections. The sherds remind people of the layout of their ancestors’ villages, and of the annual maritime visits by Motu people who came from 400 km to the east. The black sand evokes events of the distant past when their ancestors created the land through magic. Villagers in Orokolo Bay have intimate knowledge of the contents of the subsurface, and places where people work and dig more regularly are thought of as especially ancient. Here, people conduct their own form of “archaeology” as part of everyday life. This book interweaves such community constructions of the past with the emergence of large coastal villages in Orokolo Bay and across a broader span of the south coast of Papua New Guinea. The villages housed dense populations and hosted elaborate masked ceremonies that could span decades. When Sir Albert Maori Kiki—the former Deputy Prime Minister—moved to Orokolo Bay in the mid-1930s, he was mesmerized by the place, which appeared like “a modern metropolis . . . buzzing with noise and activity.” Yet little is known of when these villages originated or how they developed. In this book, archaeological digs and radiocarbon dating are used to gain insight into how several Orokolo Bay sites developed, focusing on the key origin and migration village of Popo. Village elders share their understandings of ancestral places during surveys and through oral traditions. People lived in Popo for some five hundred years, moving to, through, and from the estates, expanding and at times shifting the village to access the social and subsistence benefits of coastal village life.
