Teaching them was both challenging and fulfilling. Sixth grade, in my opinion, is the most difficult grade to teach. Too many times to count, mothers claimed that their child had never done "that" before. I learned to respond, "That's because he wasn't in the sixth grade before." As hard as it was at times, as I look back on my days in middle school, I can reminisce with a chuckle at most of their antics. Too often, though, it was I who said or did something foolish in the heat of the moment. If I had kept notes, I could have filled hundreds of pages with the comical things that happened in the middle grades. Instead, these are my memories.

The 85 years of life have been eventful, and I am grateful for those who helped me arrive at this point in life. I want to convey the events that guided me through my early years, grade, high school, Army, marriage, college, teaching, and retirement. Each day was a learning experience. The goal was to make teaching more rewarding to the students. Many assignments that are included were not present when I started in 1965. My work during the summers helped me understand the innovations – NC (numerical control), CNC (computer numerical control), EDM (electric discharge machining). That learning helped me convey that knowledge to the students. Included are jobs made by the students that were designed to provide similar experiences found in the machining industry. There are stories about students and teachers that filled my days as a teacher. Lastly, there are assignments a person can try. My only comment is, “don’t do the last two because they are difficult.” That was a favorite comment to get students to work the difficult problems.

The book covers the personal perspectives and experiences in Iran during her time of service and her own perspectives on relating to those of the Muslim religion that she learned from interaction with her Muslim students, friends and co-workers. The books of Moses were the only text that she was allowed to use in her religious education classes in both Sudan and Iran and this presentation is fairly representative of what she taught. Parts of this book are devoted to her use of the new teaching technique of using literary methods to teach science and other non-literary subjects. This book is timely, as it addresses today's new interest in teaching Bible truths throughout school curriculum.
