From a young age, Aubree was taught that because her skin was different, she was different. Because of the lack of color in her skin, she was ridiculed, teased, bullied, and threatened by her peers.By telling her story, Aubree hopes to educate people on the different shades of melanin, specially the lighter shade known as Albino. She will take back her self-esteem from those who nearly drove her to suicide at a young age. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and by embracing our differences, Aubree will show others that her identity is deeper than skin deep, it's in her heart and soul. She must find her inner strength to overcome these obstacles and embrace the proud, black girl she is. Download or read book The Melanin Millennium written by Ronald E. Hall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-14 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the aftermath of the 60s “Black is Beautiful” movement and publication of The Color Complex almost thirty years later the issue of skin color has mushroomed onto the world stage of social science. Such visibility has inspired publication of the Melanin Millennium for insuring that the discourse on skin color meet the highest standards of accuracy and objective investigation. This volume addresses the issue of skin color in a worldwide context. A virtual visit to countries that have witnessed a huge rise in the use of skin whitening products and facial feature surgeries aiming for a more Caucasian-like appearance will be taken into account. The book also addresses the question of whether using the laws has helped to redress injustices of skin color discrimination, or only further promoted recognition of its divisiveness among people of color and Whites. The Melanin Millennium has to do with now and the future. In the 20th century science including eugenics was given to and dominated by discussions of race category. Heretofore there remain social scientists and other relative to the issue of skin color loyal to race discourse. However in their interpretation and analysis of social phenomena the world has moved on. Thus while race dominated the 20th century the 21st century will emerge as a global community dominated by skin color and making it the melanin millennium.

Download or read book Living Color written by Nina G. Jablonski and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2012-09-27 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living Color is the first book to investigate the social history of skin color from prehistory to the present, showing how our body’s most visible trait influences our social interactions in profound and complex ways. In a fascinating and wide-ranging discussion, Nina G. Jablonski begins with the biology and evolution of skin pigmentation, explaining how skin color changed as humans moved around the globe. She explores the relationship between melanin pigment and sunlight, and examines the consequences of rapid migrations, vacations, and other lifestyle choices that can create mismatches between our skin color and our environment. Richly illustrated, this book explains why skin color has come to be a biological trait with great social meaning— a product of evolution perceived by culture. It considers how we form impressions of others, how we create and use stereotypes, how negative stereotypes about dark skin developed and have played out through history—including being a basis for the transatlantic slave trade. Offering examples of how attitudes about skin color differ in the U.S., Brazil, India, and South Africa, Jablonski suggests that a knowledge of the evolution and social importance of skin color can help eliminate color-based discrimination and racism.

Explore the science of genetics, melanin and skin tone, affected by the history of the Tower of Babel and the origin of people groups around the world. Divisions Ethnic cleansing, genocide, “racial” conflicts have taken place from colonialism to Nazi Germany to modern day. We are a society, nation, and world in continued conflict. We are increasingly being identified and divided by designations of “racial” groups. Many of these unfortunate divisions have been fueled by the troublesome threads of “scientific” racism which emerged from Darwinian evolution. Solutions Education can teach, workshops can inform, laws can protect, but what is the defining answer to ending the notion of “racial” division? Since racism is a heart issue – a sin issue – it is one that only the truth of God’s inerrant Word will overcome. Truths “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth....” (Acts 17:26 KJV)

Book excerpt: Every Generation of historians reviews and revises the work of its predecessors. We know that the best historical writers of today's generation undertake such a task. Displaying wit and depiction flair, their elegant essays offer a fresh perspective on their most fascinating group of Americans: the American Author. Who better than I could possibly write a new assessment of intellectuals, and those around them? In this age of hypothetical one-dimensional entity, "short string" theories and "Bing Bang" scientific study of the origin and structure of the universe, we're used to thinking of the unknown as incredibly distant from our every day lives. The latest theories of physics, in fact, deal with phenomena so unapproachable that we don't know if we will ever be able to run the experiments needed to test them. Because of this occurrence we have some people speaking, "the end of science". In this specially selected illustrated book many extraordinary men throughout the millions of year's history of Man could not have imagined that they made it possible for ordinary people to live and survive on Planet Earth.
