Book excerpt: In war, no one is safe. War has come to Thornstone, Tarkin’s Point, and Thoriddon, throwing all three nations into chaos. Led by the demon lord Vagborar, the legions of orcs are bent on nothing less than the total annihilation of both human and dwarf. With their demonic allies, they just might succeed. But not without a fight. As Serena tries to find answers and a path to victory, Orin and Brom fight with both sword and spell to turn back the tide of darkness. Beside them are a kingdom of dwarves and a city of humans, but even they may not be enough to beat back such a force. If they hope to survive, they need to come together, but with each nation under siege, uniting as one is easier said than done. When one of them is freed from battle, hope is rekindled, but prejudices rise to the surface, threatening everything. If any of them hope to survive, past actions and old hatreds must be forgotten. Hard decisions and painful sacrifices must be made. And pride and egotism must be set aside for the greater good. If not, a new age of evil will dawn upon the world.

Book A New Dawn or the Fading of the Light Culture and Evangelization Today

This book was released on 2019-12-05 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parents are disheartened when their children fall away from religious practice. Pastoral workers wonder how they can get people to take religion seriously. Something is at work that is puzzling; but we can learn something useful about it. A crucial factor is the role of culture. To have faith is an act of individual responsibility, but it can also be influenced by life around us. For example, popular opinion or concentration on making a fortune can make us deaf to any message about what lies beyond our immediate concerns. This book is the fruit of the author’s extensive study of how cultural forces influence attitudes. Calling on long experience lecturing and in pastoral ministry, he shows how cultural factors influence religious belief in our times and how ordinary believers can be active participants in creating a culture that opens us to God’s word.

Book excerpt: Fans of the literary phenomenon known as the Twilight series can't help wanting more. A New Dawn gives it to them, inviting readers to join some of their favorite YA authors as they look at the series with fresh eyes and fall in love with Edward, Bella, and the rest of Forks, Wash., all over again. Edited by bestselling author Ellen Hopkins, A New Dawn is packed with the same debates readers engage in with friends: Should Bella have chosen Edward or Jacob? How much control do Meyer's vampires and werewolves really have over their own lives? The collection also goes further: Is Edward a romantic or a (really hot) sociopath? How do the Quileute werewolves compare to other Native American wolf myths? What does the Twilight series have in common with Shakespeare? With contributions from Megan McCafferty, Cassandra Clare, Rachel Caine, and many more, A New Dawn answers these questions and more for a teen (and adult!) audience hungry for clever, view-changing commentary on their favorite series.

Book Meet Me Here at Dawn

  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Meet Me Here at Dawn written by Sophie Klahr and published by YesYes Books. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry. Women's Studies. Eroticism tinged with elegy, gratitude knit with doubt; MEET ME HERE AT DAWN contains an unmistakably open voice. Sophie Klahr's debut poetry collection careens from hunger to hunger. With lyric energy and narrative determination, the poems are missives sent back from a threshold, chronicling disease, the unspoken pains of family, the fabric of an extra-marital affair. "What aperture makes a woman?" Klahr asks in "One Slaughter." In MEET ME HERE AT DAWN, even the unanswerable is unfaltering, every question brightly wrought and necessary. "Sophie Klahr moves through the chambers of the mind and heart like an expert escape artist, keys hidden in the body's coverts are revealed in a 'rush of knowing, ' the body's 'first breaking and entering' that feels both clandestine and disclosive. This is poetry of immense vulnerability and fierce mettle; determined, convincing and heroically alive with courage of every kind."--D.A. Powell

Book A NEW DAWN

Download or read book A NEW DAWN written by Dawn Lyon and published by Author House. This book was released on 2012-03-06 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for anyone who has suffered rejection, abandonment, and pain; frankly, anything that has come between them and being the best person they can be. A New Dawn has been written according to what I remember and according to accounts given me by family members. And please let me make it very clear, it is not and never will be my desire to hurt or blame others for anything that has happened in my life. Blame should never be an issue in the struggles of life. However, there were things from my past that influenced certain actions that took place as I grew up. As you read my autobiography it could help you to avoid some of the same pitfalls I suffered. Not only that, but writing my life's story was extremely therapeutic as I put my feelings into words.

Book excerpt: This emotionally riveting book traces the travails of three young Polish Jewish women attempting to resurrect their lives in the bitter aftermath of World War II. After years in a concentration camp, they must first fend off the lusty Russian soldiers who free them. Then comes the arduous trek home. Other people live in their houses now, and the village is hostile. Where will they go? How will they survive? Is anyone they knew and loved still alive? Traveling far, often passing as non-Jews, they learn to cope and endure. Finally, their search for freedom bears fruit in the promise of a Jewish homeland. But pioneering Israel means new hardships: housing shortages, scant medicine, food rationing, political conflict. And enemies everywhere, from harsh British rulers to warrior Arab neighbors. New Dawn is a book of many miracles. As history, it thrillingly recounts how Jews from vastly different cultures joined forces to fight for Israel. As Holocaust literature, it is significant. A half-century after the fact, time is running out for survivors, and the need for testimony is pressing. This book makes a major contribution to that growing genre.

Book excerpt: This award–winning “powerful narrative history” presents a vividly detailed chronicle of grueling combat operations in Fallujah during the Iraq War (Midwest Book Review). Few places are as closely associated with blood, sacrifice, and valor as the ancient city Fallujah, forty miles west of Baghdad. This sprawling concrete jungle was the scene of two major U.S. combat operations in 2004. The first, Operation Vigilant Resolve, was an aborted effort by U.S. Marines to punish the city’s insurgents. The second, Operation Phantom Fury, was launched seven months later. Also known as the Second Battle for Fallujah, Operation Phantom Fury was a protracted house-to-house and street-to-street conflict that began on November 7th and continued unabated for seven bloody weeks. It was the largest fight of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the heaviest urban combat since the Battle of Hue City, Vietnam in 1968. By the time the fighting ended, more than 1,400 insurgents were dead, along with ninety-five Americans (and another 1,000 wounded). In New Dawn, military historian Richard Lowry draws on archival research, as well as the personal recollections of nearly 200 soldiers and Marines who participated in the battles for Fallujah, from the commanding generals who planned the operations to the privates who kicked in the doors. The result is a gripping narrative of individual sacrifice and valor that also documents the battles for future military historians. Winner of the Military Writers Society of America Gold Medal for History
