Download or read book Mali written by International Monetary Fund. African Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2019-09-05 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses Mali’s Request for Three-Year Arrangement Under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF). The economic outlook for Mali remains positive; however, subject to important downside risks. The potential real growth rate is estimated at about 5 percent per year and inflation is expected to continue to be contained by the CFAF’s peg to the euro. Downside risks relate to the possible further deterioration of the security situation, potential shocks to the terms of trade (the price of gold, cotton, and fuels), and adverse weather conditions. Going forward, it is essential to pursue greater spending efficiency, including through strengthened project selection and execution, as well as the rationalization of subsidies. The authorities’ efforts to increase financial inclusion and narrow the gender gap, including by direct measures to economically empower women are welcome. The new ECF arrangement aims to support the authorities’ development strategy (CREDD) for strong and inclusive growth through job creation, economic diversification, and greater resiliency. The main focus in the short term is to significantly increase revenue collection to allow for development spending and to reform the energy sector.

Download or read book The Tuaregs and the 2012 Rebellion in Mali written by Yusuf Ibrahim Gamawa and published by Partridge Africa. This book was released on 2017-06-27 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As this book goes to print, the BBC is reporting an attack on a luxury tourist resort in Mali by Tuareg and Islamists militants. A very short while back, in 2012, in fact, the rebellion in the North came within a whisker of seizing Mali. If it had not been for the timely armed intervention of France, Mali might have become the first state to fall totally into the hands of elements the West and African governments are still battling in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Niger, Nigeria and Somalia and who unleash terror on Europe on an almost daily basis. The story of ancient Mali, once one of the greatest empires Africa has ever seen, colonized by the French and now an independent African state, and its never-ending clashes with the Tuareg people in the North of the country, is as gripping and as dramatic today as then. What is really happening? Who are the Tuareg? What makes them so different? Are they really the descendants of the Almoravids, who conquered Spain and left the stunning beauties of the Alhambra and Granada as testimonies of their greatness? Unique, with their own proud and romantic culture, dominating all they come in contact with, the Tuareg refuse to be ruled. In The Tuaregs and the 2012 Rebellion in Mali, Ibrahim Yusuf Gamawa compellingly tells a story that is not yet ended. But he brings it up to date and future waits in the wings to unfold the next no doubt tragic but compelling chapters. It is an ancient story, as contemporary as tomorrows headlines.

These students create unique challenges for teachers and administrators. This handbook is a welcome new resource for secondary teachers and administrators working in areas with burgeoning immigrant populations, as well as ESL instructors and researchers. The book addresses some of the many issues facing the subpopulation of English language learners who have limited or interrupted formal schooling, helping dedicated teachers and administrators to meet this subpopulation’s highly specific literacy development and content-area knowledge needs. Meeting the Needs of Students with Limited or Interrupted Schooling is grounded in research but goes beyond it to offer practical guidance on fostering the success of students from limited or interrupted schooling backgrounds by providing student case studies, model programs and classes, and helpful teaching techniques and tips.
