Book Born Again in Medjugorje

Download or read book Born Again in Medjugorje written by Mrs Mary Hendel McCafferty and published by . This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1987, Mary Hendel McCafferty, a stay-at-home mother of two, learned of the supernatural events taking place in Medjugorje, a remote village in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Apparently the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, had been appearing to six young people since June of 1981. Responding to a persistent desire to go there, Mary and her mother journeyed to Medjugorje in 1990. The pilgrimage was life changing. From the time of her return, Mary desired to share with others all that God had given her. As her family grew from two to seven children, she was blessed to be able to return to her "home away from home" many times. In 2012, she decided it was time to write the story of her conversion as a memoir for her children. At the urging of family and friends, she then decided to publish her memoir, hoping to inspire others to pursue a closer relationship with Christ. "Born Again . . . in Medjugorje" takes you on her weeklong journey to the place where Mary experienced God's love in ways she never expected. Upon her return to the United States, she wrote, "In just one week's time I had experienced God's love more completely, it seemed, than I had in the first thirty-one years of my life. I had emerged from the womb of Medjugorje and was now about to take my first breath."

Book The Best of The Spirit of Medjugorje

Download or read book The Best of The Spirit of Medjugorje written by June Klins and published by Author House. This book was released on 2007-09-24 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1981 a beautiful lady appeared to 6 young people in the village of Medjugorje in what is now Bosnia-Herzegovina. She told them that She was the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of Peace, and came with a message of peace. She has continued to appear since 1981 to give messages to the world of peace, love and joy. She is confiding ten secrets to each visionary (some are chastisements for the world) and promises to leave a visible sign at the place of the apparitions in Medjugorje for all humanity. This time, this period of grace, is for conversion and deepening faith. After the visible sign, those living will have little time for conversion. Many books have been written about Medjugorje, but this one and Volume I of this series are different. They both include not only information about Medjugorje and talks and interviews with the visionaries, but also heartfelt testimonies of those who have been healed and changed through Medjugorje, as well as advice, written from the heart, on how to live the messages. This book is for EVERYONE - all Our Lady's children, Catholic and non-Catholic. If you have not heard about Medjugorje, it will tell you everything you need to know. If you have been following the messages of Medjugorje or have been one of the millions of people blessed to have been there, this book will light your fire all over again. I desire to lead you all on the way of holiness. Live my messages and put into life every word that I am giving you. May they be precious to you because they come from Heaven. ( Our Lady of Medjugorje, 6/25/02)

Book excerpt: With refreshing candor and self-deprecating humor, Wayne takes the reader with him on the adventure to Medjugorje that radically and permanently changed his life. You will discover the apparitions of the Blessed Mother along with him, as he chronicles the ways that the Virgin Mary continues to speak to the world today from Medjugorje. "In a tiny village in the mountains of Yugoslavia, the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, had reportedly been appearing to a group of local teenagers, beginning in June, 1981, and continuing every evening since." So begins journalist Wayne Weible's life-transforming investigation into the veracity of one of the most popular Marian apparition claims in history. What began as a quick attempt to add some spice to his regular newspaper column resulted in a life-long exploration of the apparitions of the Blessed Mother that are still happening at Medjugorje, and the lives that are changed as a result. Do miracles happen? Wayne Weible is one former skeptic who is now convinced that they do. Paraclete Press presents a special, hardcover, illustrated edition of Medjugorje: The Message---the best-selling English-language book on the subject--- on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Mary's first message to six youths in the mountains. This new edition includes a new preface by the author and a special, eight-page photo insert.

Book Religious Separation and Political Intolerance in Bosnia Herzegovina

Download or read book Religious Separation and Political Intolerance in Bosnia Herzegovina written by Mitja Velikonja and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mitja Velikonja has written a comprehensive survey that examines how religion has interacted with other aspects of Bosnia-Herzegovina's history. Velikonja sees the former Ottoman borderland as a distinct cultural and religious entity where three major faiths -- Islam, Catholicism, and Orthodoxy -- managed to coexist in relative peace. It is only during the past century that competing nationalisms have led to persecution, ethnic cleansing, and mass murder. Emphasizing the importance of religion to nationalism as a symbol of collective identity that strengthens national identity, Velikonja notes that religious groups have a tendency to become isolated from one another. He believes Bosnia-Herzegovina was unique in its sarlikost, or diversity, because while religion defined ethnic communities there and kept them separate, it did not create a culture of intolerance. Rather than suppressing one another, the region's ethno-religious groups learned to cooperate and mediate their differences -- useful behavior in an area that served as buffer between East and West for most of its history. Velikonja believes that Bosnians went beyond tolerance to embrace synthetic, eclectic religious norms, with each religious group often borrowing customs and rituals from its rivals. Rather than the extreme orthodoxy evident elsewhere in Europe, Bosnia became the home of heterodoxy. Sadly, nationalism changed all that, and the area became the scene of systematic persecution, forced conversion, and mass slaughter. Velikonja considers the misfortunes suffered by the Bosnians during the 1990s as largely the result of actions by their neighbors and local militants and inaction by the international community. But he also sees the tragedy that unfolded as the result of the exploitation of ethno-religious differences and myths by Serbian chauvinists and Croatian nationalists. Despite the tragedy that overwhelmed Bosnia-Herzegovina

Book Collectivistic Religions

Download or read book Collectivistic Religions written by Slavica Jakelic and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collectivistic Religions draws upon empirical studies of Christianity in Europe to address questions of religion and collective identity, religion and nationalism, religion and public life, and religion and conflict. It moves beyond the attempts to tackle such questions in terms of 'choice' and 'religious nationalism' by introducing the notion of 'collectivistic religions' to contemporary debates surrounding public religions. Using a comparison of several case studies, this book challenges the modernist bias in understanding of collectivistic religions as reducible to national identities. A significant contribution to both the study of religious change in contemporary Europe and the theoretical debates that surround religion and secularization, it will be of key interest to scholars across a range of disciplines, including sociology, political science, religious studies, and geography.
