Book Meditations on the Sacred Heart

Download or read book Meditations on the Sacred Heart written by Brother Philippe and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-02-23 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consider this meditation: DEVOTION to the Sacred Heart consists in honoring, with a worship of adoration, love, gratitude, imitation, and reparation, the heart of Jesus, which, united hypostatically to the vVord, is the heart of God, the source and fulness of graces, the perfect model of all virtues; and whose goodness, greatness, amiability, and generosity are alas! unrecognized on the part of men. This devotion, like that of the words of the cross, the sacred lance, the crown of thorns, and a multitude of others, has a double object: the one sensible and material, able to be perceived by the senses, or represented by the imagination; the other wholly spiritual, but having the closest relations with it. The sensible object is that heart, which living and animated was the organ of the feelings of our divine Savior, and which reminds us of them, as being their most direct, truest, and most expressive symbol. The spiritual object 'consists in those very feelings, the interior dispositions of Jesus Christ! his love for his Father, his love and tenderness for men, his joy, his sorrows, his wishes. . . . . . . The Blessed Margaret Mary gives us to understand and distinguish. this double object, when she says: " The divine Master assured me that he felt singular pleasure in seeing the sentiments and love of his heart honored under the emblem of a heart of flesh, as he had shown me." The Church speaks in the same way in her office, where we read: "The Sovereign Pontiff, Clement XIII, has authorised the feast of the Sacred Heart, so that the faithful may, under that symbol, celebrate with more devotion and fervor, the charity of Jesus Christ suffering and dying for the salvation of the human race, and instituting, in memory of his death, the sacrament of his body and his blood. While giving glory to the Sacred Heart of Jesus we celebrate the memory of the principal favors of his love towards us." Let us admire here the simplicity and fitness of the means Jesus Christ has wished to make choice of. The heart is in fact the most natural emblem of love, goodness, and whatever there is of great, generous, and heroic in the soul: moreover, it receives the impression of all the feelings we experience. 'What Christian, then, could by meditation place himself in presence of the heart of Jesus Christ without recalling the sentiments of charity, tenderness, and compassion, with which that divine Savior was filled. "The heart of Jesus," says Pere Gautrelet, "represents, and reminds us of the sacred humanity, whose noblest organ it was, and the divine pardon which penetrated it, raised it to the dignity of a divine heart, and imprinted the seal of divinity on all its movements and sentiments; the honor paid to Jesus Christ can be formalised in that we pay to his adorable heart." The end of devotion to the Sacred Heart, is to acknowledge, in a worthy manner, the love of Jesus for us; it is therefore to imitate the virtues of which he gives us an example to repair the crimes and ingratitude of men towards him, particularly in the adorable Eucharist. What Christian would not strive to realize that sublime end! Ah! how can we think of the wonders and the excess of the charity of the Son of God; how can we recall to mind that that love was the cause of the humiliations of his Incarnation, the labors of his life, the gift which he has given us of himself in his sacrament, the sacrifice he consummated on Calvary, and not be drawn to love him with the greatest love! All that is brought before us by devotion to the Sacred Heart. Therefore, whoever embraces its spirit and practice, cannot but share the sentiments of St. Liguori who exclaimed: " O all amiable heart of my Jesus, ' heart worthy to possess all hearts, heart resplendent with the flames of the purest love! O consuming fire, consume all my being, and give me a new life, a life of grace, a life of love." ....

Book Meditations of the Heart

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “As poet, prophet, and priest, Thurman builds upon a powerful legacy of ancestral hope: belief in a liberating God who can always be found ‘in and among the struggling.’” —Yolanda Pierce A universal beacon of hope and endurance for people of all faiths seeking to meet the challenges, uncertainties, and joys of life Howard Thurman’s Meditations of the Heart is a beautiful collection of over 150 prayers, poems, and meditations on prayer, community, and the joys and rituals of life by one of our greatest spiritual leaders. Thurman, a spiritualist and mystic, was renowned for the quiet beauty of his reflections on humanity and our relationship with God. In a new foreword, Yolanda Pierce, dean of Howard University’s School of Divinity, calls attention to the justice-centered theological framework of Thurman’s words. Pierce notes how Thurman brings to light an image of God who can always be found “in and among the struggling,” both in times of weariness and in strength. First written for and shared with his congregation of the Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco, California, these meditations sustain, elevate, and inspire. They are a universal beacon of hope and endurance for people of all faiths seeking to meet the challenges, uncertainties, and joys of everyday life with a renewed and liberating faith.

Book excerpt: True devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus moves us to ponder the unrelenting love of Jesus, fully human and fully divine, as He poured Himself out for the world. In these pages, Fr. Thomas Dailey transports you beyond the prayers and liturgies and helps you to contemplate the Sacred Heart, which Pope Benedict XVI said “has irreplaceable importance.” Fr. Dailey shows you how to experience the way of prayer that formed St. Margaret Mary — the visionary to whom the devotion was revealed — in the religious order founded by St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal. Fr. Dailey's brilliant combination of Salesian spirituality and meditative devotion will enable you to respond to Christ's “divine affection” and experience God's love as never before. Through a series of nine reflections on the Sacred Heart, Fr. Dailey will show you:

Book Meditations on the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Download or read book Meditations on the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus written by Juliana Norwich and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-01-18 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Juliana of Norwich has some wonderful meditations on the Litany of the Sacred Heart. THIS work may be described as a commentary on, or a series of passages illustrating, the invocations of the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, extracted from the rich mine of treasures to be found in the Revelations of Divine Love by Mother Juliana of "Norwich, who lived in the fourteenth century. The theme of these Revelations is the love of Jesus, especially manifested in His Holy Passion and Death, which she sums up in the last chapter of her book in the following words : " I desired oftentimes to learn what was our Lord's meaning. And fifteen years after and more, I was answered in ghostly understanding. Saying thus: · \:Vouldst thou learn thy Lord's meaning in this thing? Learn it well: Love was His meaning. Who showed it thee? Love. What showed He thee? Love. Wherefore showed it He? For love. Hold thee therein and thou shalt learn and know more in the same. But thou shalt never know nor learn therein other thing without end.' Thus was I learned that Love was our Lord's meaning.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE following pages may naturally be divided into four parts: two novenas of meditations on the Sacred Heart, with special reference to the devotion of the First Fridays; a novena of meditations on the kindred subject of the Apostleship of Prayer; and a brief account of the devotional exercise of the Holy Hour, with accompanying meditations. This latter exercise is very intimately associated with the Apostleship of Prayer. These constituent portions of the book were not all written at the same time, nor was it my original intention to combine them into one. This was an afterthought, suggested by some persons who considered that the gathering together of these meditations in a single book would prove of use to many fervent clients of the Sacred Heart. I hope this explanation may suffice for those who discover any want of unity or continuity of treatment in the meditations. Indeed, the division into three novenas is not without its own advantages. Furthermore, these twenty-seven meditations, together with the four devoted to the Holy Hour, making thirty-one in all, supply sufficient matter for an entire Month of Meditations on the Sacred Heart. The book may thus be used as a book of Meditations for the Month of June. The Points for Self-Examination given in connection with the first nine meditations, as well as some of the matter of these meditations of the first series, are taken largely, at least in substance, from the very excellent Latin work Sacerdos, written many years ago by Father Petit, S.J., a well-known Belgian Jesuit. May our Lord Himself vouchsafe to bless this effort, however small and unworthy, to promote devotion to His most Sacred Heart.
