Book Trinity College Library Dublin

Download or read book Trinity College Library Dublin written by Peter Fox and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-04-24 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive, scholarly history of Trinity College Library Dublin. It covers the whole 400 years of the Library's development, from its foundation by James Ussher in the seventeenth century to the electronic revolution of the twenty-first century. Particular attention is given to the buildings and to the politics involved in obtaining funding for them, as well as to the acquisition of the great treasures, such as the Book of Kells and the libraries of Ussher, Claudius Gilbert and Hendrik Fagel. An important aspect is the comprehensive coverage of legal deposit from the beginning of the nineteenth century, viewed for the first time from the Irish perspective. The book also draws parallels with the development of other libraries in Dublin and with those of the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and features throughout the individuals who influenced the Library's development - librarians, politicians, readers, book collectors and book thieves.

Book The Early Residential Buildings of Trinity College Dublin

Download or read book The Early Residential Buildings of Trinity College Dublin written by R.A. SOMERVILLE and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-30 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a history of the early buildings of Trinity College, from the Elizabethan Quadrangle up to the residential buildings of the early 18th century. Among all those red-brick buildings only the Rubrics remains, albeit much altered, to suggest what Trinity College looked like before the 1750s, when replacement of the early buildings began. Why and when were new buildings added to the College? How were they funded? Who designed them? Where were materials sourced? What can be said about the architecture of the buildings, all of which, apart from the Rubrics, were pulled down in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries? Who managed their construction on the College's behalf, and who carried out the building work? How were essential services provided? The book answers all of these questions, and en route it explores an almost forgotten event, the disastrous fire of February 1726/7, in which at least one house in Library Square was destroyed and several more were damaged. The book also explores the community of residents of the early buildings up to the end of the 19th century. The book ends with a personal memoir of the Rubrics in recent times.

Finally, the authors offer considerations for deciding on which technological tools to deploy in implementing a successful ePortfolio initiative. "These authors achieve the very rare accomplishment of combining their years of practical experience, broad conceptual and research underpinnings, and incredibly useful examples and applications into a single, concise volume for enhancing student learning through an ePortfolio approach to our shared educational purpose." TERREL L. RHODES, vice president, Office of Quality, Curriculum, and Assessment, Association of American Colleges and Universities "Educators keep asking for more information about how to use electronic portfolios. This book provides answers, guidelines, examples, and scholarly insights about learning based in the wisdom of the ePortfolio community of practice what a powerful addition to our collective knowledge! Book Cyber Physical Systems and Control

Download or read book Cyber Physical Systems and Control written by Dmitry G. Arseniev and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-29 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the proceedings of the International Conference on Cyber-Physical Systems and Control (CPS&C'2019), held in Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary in 2019. The CPS&C'2019 was dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the partnership between Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and Leibniz University of Hannover. Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are a new generation of control systems and techniques that help promote prospective interdisciplinary research. A wide range of theories and methodologies are currently being investigated and developed in this area to tackle various complex and challenging problems. Accordingly, CPSs represent a scientific and engineering discipline that is set to make an impact on future systems of industrial and social scale that are characterized by the deep integration of real-time processing, sensing, and actuation into logical and physical heterogeneous domains. The CPS&C'2019 brought together researchers and practitioners from all over the world and to discuss cross-cutting fundamental scientific and engineering principles that underline the integration of cyber and physical elements across all application fields. The participants represented research institutions and universities from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Syria, Ukraine, the USA, and Vietnam. These proceedings include 75 papers arranged into five sections, namely keynote papers, fundamentals, applications, technologies, and education and social aspects.
