Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this analysis of media law in Slovenia surveys the massively altered and enlarged legal landscape traditionally encompassed in laws pertaining to freedom of expression and regulation of communications. Everywhere, a shift from mass media to mass self-communication has put enormous pressure on traditional law models. An introduction describing the main actors and salient aspects of media markets is followed by in-depth analyses of print media, radio and television broadcasting, the Internet, commercial communications, political advertising, concentration in media markets, and media regulation. Among the topics that arise for discussion are privacy, cultural policy, protection of minors, competition policy, access to digital gateways, protection of journalists’ sources, standardization and interoperability, and liability of intermediaries. Relevant case law is considered throughout, as are various ethical codes. A clear, comprehensive overview of media legislation, case law, and doctrine, presented from the practitioner’s point of view, this book is a valuable time-saving resource for all concerned with media and communication freedom. Lawyers representing parties with interests in Slovenia will welcome this very useful guide, and academics and researchers will appreciate its value in the study of comparative media law.

Book Universality of the Rule of Law

Download or read book Universality of the Rule of Law written by Elmarie Fourie and published by African Sun Media. This book was released on 2022-01-25 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is the result of a recent but intensive cooperation between the faculties of law of the universities of Ljubljana and Johannesburg. As is often the case in life, the starting point of this project was a friendship. A friendship between two law professors who, at the same point in time, became deans of their respective law schools – Prof Letlhokwa Mpedi (now Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic (UJ) in Johannesburg and Prof Grega Strban in Ljubljana.) They decided to connect their institutions in a formal way by establishing a cooperation that would outlive their mandates as deans and provide a professional platform for legal scholars of both universities to get first-hand insight into a very different legal system, thus widening their legal horizons and inspiring a different view and new solutions for their own national law. This noble endeavour has so far been a great success. What might have seemed an unlikely alliance proved to be an extremely valuable and inspiring experience both on a professional and personal level. The idea of this book was born after a joint conference held in Johannesburg in 2019. Here, experts from both institutions presented current relevant issues in different legal areas and discussed how both countries dealt with them. After insightful debates, it was decided that they should, on the one hand, be written down, and, on the other hand, that the written texts should not only reflect those debates but should broaden and deepen the research. It should not merely be a collection of conference papers, but a true scientific monograph, destined to legal scholars and practitioners, researching, teaching and practicing in national and international environments. Book Sports Law in Slovenia

  • Release : 2021-02-22
  • ISBN : 9403531517
  • Pages : 114 pages

Download or read book Sports Law in Slovenia written by Jernej Podlipnik and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2021-02-22 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this practical analysis of sports law in Slovenia deals with the regulation of sports activity by both public authorities and private sports organizations. The growing internationalization of sports inevitably increases the weight of global regulation, yet each country maintains its own distinct regime of sports law and its own national and local sports organizations. Sports law at a national or organizational level thus gains a growing relevance in comparative law. The book describes and discusses both state-created rules and autonomous self-regulation regarding the variety of economic, social, commercial, cultural, and political aspects of sports activities. Self- regulation manifests itself in the form of by-laws, and encompasses organizational provisions, disciplinary rules, and rules of play. However, the trend towards more professionalism in sports and the growing economic, social and cultural relevance of sports have prompted an increasing reliance on legal rules adopted by public authorities. This form of regulation appears in a variety of legal areas, including criminal law, labour law, commercial law, tax law, competition law, and tort law, and may vary following a particular type or sector of sport. It is in this dual and overlapping context that such much-publicized aspects as doping, sponsoring and media, and responsibility for injuries are legally measured. This monograph fills a gap in the legal literature by giving academics, practitioners, sports organizations, and policy makers access to sports law at this specific level. Lawyers representing parties with interests in Slovenia will welcome this very useful guide, and academics and researchers will appreciate its value in the study of comparative sports law.

Book Introducing Vigilant Audiences

Download or read book Introducing Vigilant Audiences written by Daniel Trottier and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2020-10-15 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since the exposure of the Kitten Killer of Hangshou captured the imagination of online communities world-wide, vigilantism and digilantism has come to the fore as an emerging and poignant issue. In their book Introducing Vigilant Audiences Daniel Trottier and colleagues (and contributors) have produced an excellent and throughtful ‘must read’ for all who are studying vigilantism, or just interested in it. Prof. David Wall, University of Leeds This is a collection of cutting edge and thoughtful case studies of global digital vigilantism that advances this emerging and increasingly important field in useful and intriguing ways. Prof. Michael Pfeifer, City University of New York This ground-breaking collection of essays examines the scope and consequences of digital vigilantism – a phenomenon emerging on a global scale, which sees digital audiences using social platforms to shape social and political life. Longstanding forms of moral scrutiny and justice seeking are disseminated through our contemporary media landscape, and researchers are increasingly recognising the significance of societal impacts effected by digital media. The authors engage with a range of cross-disciplinary perspectives in order to explore the actions of a vigilant digital audience – denunciation, shaming, doxing – and to consider the role of the press and other public figures in supporting or contesting these activities. In turn, the volume illuminates several tensions underlying these justice seeking activities – from their capacity to reproduce categorical forms of discrimination, to the diverse motivations of the wider audiences who participate in vigilant denunciations. This timely volume presents thoughtful case studies drawn both from high-profile Anglo-American contexts, and from developments in regions that have received less coverage in English-language scholarship. It is distinctive in its focus on the contested boundary between policing and entertainment, and on the various contexts in which the desire to seek retribution converges with the desire to consume entertainment. Introducing Vigilant Audiences will be of great value to researchers and students of sociology, politics, criminology, critical security studies, and media and communication. It will be of further interest to those who wish to understand recent cases of citizen-led justice seeking in their global context.

Book Democratic Transition in Slovenia

Download or read book Democratic Transition in Slovenia written by Sabrina P. Ramet and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2006-09-15 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first of the Yugoslav successor states to successfully build a democratic system and to enter the European Union, Slovenia stands as a model for democratic transition. This ground-breaking volume analyzes the challenges confronting the post-Communist government and evaluates the strategies adopted in refashioning its value system. Sabrina P. Ramet and Danica Fink-Hafner have assembled a team of outstanding specialists to analyze various aspects of the country’s transformation from socialism to democracy. The editors note that while a great deal has been written on political and economic questions, relatively little attention has been paid to the transformation and transmission of values and norms in Eastern Europe over the past fifteen years. Slovenia’s experience, reflected in these pages, demonstrates how a small country has created the preconditions necessary to the construction of a civic, democratic culture. Six values are emphasized as central to this project: tolerance, equality, church-state separation, respect for democratic procedure and the rule of law, human rights, and civic-mindedness. The volume editors join the other contributors in discussing the way in which Slovenia has set out to build democracy, the ways in which values are transmitted, the role of the media in a free society, the structure of educational systems, and other questions which are of concern not just to Slovenes, but to everyone who aspires to live in an open, democratic society.

Book Media Freedom and Pluralism

Download or read book Media Freedom and Pluralism written by Beata Klimkiewicz and published by Central European University Press. This book was released on 2010-05-10 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addresses a critical analysis of major media policies in the European Union and Council of Europe at the period of profound changes affecting both media environments and use, as well as the logic of media policy-making and reconfiguration of traditional regulatory models. The analytical problem-related approach seems to better reflect a media policy process as an interrelated part of European integration, formation of European citizenship, and exercise of communication rights within the European communicative space. The question of normative expectations is to be compared in this case with media policy rationales, mechanisms of implementation (transposing rules from EU to national levels), and outcomes.
