Download or read book mechanistic studies of DNA replication and genetic recombination written by Bruce Alberts and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 1034 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanistic Studies of DNA Replication and Genetic Recombination emerged from a symposium on DNA replication and genetic recombination held from March 16-21, 1980 in Keystone, Colorado. The event featured 30 plenary session talks, 13 workshop discussion groups, and the 210 poster sessions. The studies described in this book are paving the way for the elucidation of other basic genetic mechanisms, including ""new"" areas in molecular genetics such as those of eukaryotic gene expression and the transposition of mobile genetic elements. This book is divided into 10 parts: summaries of workshop discussion groups (Part I); studies on eukaryotic model systems for DNA replication (Part II); studies on bacterial replication origins (Part III); studies on replication origins of bacterial phages and plasmids (Part IV); studies on eukaryotic replication origins (Part V); studies on prokaryotic replication enzymology (Part VI); studies on eukaryotic replication enzymology (Part VII); studies on the fidelity of DNA replication (Part VIII); studies on DNA topoisomerases (Part IX); and studies of genetic recombination mechanisms (Part X).

Book DNA Helicases and DNA Motor Proteins

Download or read book DNA Helicases and DNA Motor Proteins written by Maria Spies and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-19 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, a number of groundbreaking structural and mechanistic studies deepened our understanding of helicase mechanisms and established new approaches for their analyses. Many fundamental mechanistic questions ranging from the mechanism of force generation, mechanochemical coupling to distinct mechanisms by which the same enzyme translocates on DNA removing obstacles, unwinds DNA and/or remodels nucleoprotein complexes, however, remain to be answered. It is even less understood how the helicase motors are incorporated into a wide range of genome maintenance and repair machines. The field has reached a stage when the studies of molecular mechanisms and basic biology of helicases can and shall be integrated with the studies of development, cancer and longevity. The objective of this book is to provide the first systematic overview of structure, function and regulation of DNA helicases and related molecular motors. By integrating the knowledge obtained through the diverse technical approaches ranging from single-molecule biophysics to cellular and molecular biological studies the editors aim to provide a unified view on how helicases function in the cell, are regulated in response to different cellular stresses and are integrated into large macromolecular assemblies to form a complex and adaptive living system.

Book Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology

Download or read book Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology written by W. Henle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several discoveries are noteworthy for allowing us to probe the recesses of the virus℗Ư infected cell and to search for cryptic viral genomes which might provide clues in our studies of cancer etiology or developmental biology. One of the most notable was the dis℗Ư covery of reverse transcriptase. This marked a momentous occasion in the history of molecular biology. Not only did it provide insight into the mechanism of persistence of retroviruses but it also provided us with an enzyme that could synthesize a DNA copy of any RNA. This DNA copy could then be used as a hybridization reagent to search for both complementary DNA and viral-specific RNA. Thus one could follow the course of any viral infection or probe in tumor cells for hidden viral genomes. Second, a great deal of credit must be given to the geneticists who isolated the various deletion mutants in the 'avian retrovirus system and thus provided us with the frrst means of isolating gene-spe℗Ư cific probes. Finally, the laboratories which have mapped the genome have provided us with the framework in which to ask very specific questions with our gene-specific probes. Recently, numerous excellent reviews concerning various aspects of the retroviruses have appeared. In this review I shall not even attempt to present a comprehensive review of retroviruses.

Book DNA Replication Recombination and Repair

Download or read book DNA Replication Recombination and Repair written by Fumio Hanaoka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-22 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive review of the detailed molecular mechanisms of and functional crosstalk among the replication, recombination, and repair of DNA (collectively called the "3Rs") and the related processes, with special consciousness of their biological and clinical consequences. The 3Rs are fundamental molecular mechanisms for organisms to maintain and sometimes intentionally alter genetic information. DNA replication, recombination, and repair, individually, have been important subjects of molecular biology since its emergence, but we have recently become aware that the 3Rs are actually much more intimately related to one another than we used to realize. Furthermore, the 3R research fields have been growing even more interdisciplinary, with better understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying other important processes, such as chromosome structures and functions, cell cycle and checkpoints, transcriptional and epigenetic regulation, and so on. This book comprises 7 parts and 21 chapters: Part 1 (Chapters 1–3), DNA Replication; Part 2 (Chapters 4–6), DNA Recombination; Part 3 (Chapters 7–9), DNA Repair; Part 4 (Chapters 10–13), Genome Instability and Mutagenesis; Part 5 (Chapters 14–15), Chromosome Dynamics and Functions; Part 6 (Chapters 16–18), Cell Cycle and Checkpoints; Part 7 (Chapters 19–21), Interplay with Transcription and Epigenetic Regulation. This volume should attract the great interest of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and senior scientists in broad research fields of basic molecular biology, not only the core 3Rs, but also the various related fields (chromosome, cell cycle, transcription, epigenetics, and similar areas). Additionally, researchers in neurological sciences, developmental biology, immunology, evolutionary biology, and many other fields will find this book valuable.

Book Molecular Mechanisms in DNA Replication and Recombination

Download or read book Molecular Mechanisms in DNA Replication and Recombination written by Charles C. Richardson and published by Wiely-Liss. This book was released on 1990 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "DNA to DNA transitions are spectacular events involving phenomenal biochemical and topological complexity and astounding requisites for precision and control. Molecular Mechanisms in DNA Replication and Recombination offers a detailed understanding of the molecular mechanisms of DNA replication and recombination and their regulation. The book represents a thorough picture of the various topological forms that the DNA double helix can assume, and the way in which these forms can recognize and interact with their cognate bindings proteins and enzymes. This volume features the work of X-ray crystallographers, structural chemists, and nucleic acid enzymologists to promote the cross-fertilization of ideas, experimental approaches, and techniques. It assesses major advances in the field such as: the ways in which replication od duplex DNA genomes, both prokaryotic and eukaryotic are initiated, the replication potential of SV40 (the state of phosphorylation of large T antigen and presumably its host cell analogue) and ori C (the functional interaction of the DNA protein with phospholipids, and presumably the cell membrane), the structure and dynamics of DNA polymerase action, and the molecular mechanism of site specific and homologous recombination. Molecular Mechanisms in DNA Replication and Recombination is of importance to scientists involved in nucleic acid research, molecular biology, enzymology, and celluar biochemistry." --
