Book Electrochemical Reactions and Mechanisms in Organic Chemistry

Download or read book Electrochemical Reactions and Mechanisms in Organic Chemistry written by J. Grimshaw and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-12-01 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrochemical reactions make significant contributions to organic synthesis either in the laboratory or on an industrial scale. These methods have the potential for developing more "green" chemical synthesis. Over recent years, modern investigations have clarified the mechanisms of important organic electrochemical reactions. Progress has also been made in controlling the reactivity of intermediates through either radical or ionic pathways. Now is the time to gather all the electrochemical work into a textbook. As an essential addition to the armory of synthetic organic chemists, electrochemical reactions give results not easily achieved by many other chemical routes. This book presents a logical development of reactions and mechanisms in organic electrochemistry at a level suited to research scientists and final year graduate students. It forms an excellent starting point from which synthetic organic chemists, in both academia and industry, can appreciate uses for electrochemical methods in their own work. The book is also a reference guide to the literature.

Book The Mechanisms of the Electrochemical Reactions of Simple Organic Compounds in Aqueous Solutions

Download or read book The Mechanisms of the Electrochemical Reactions of Simple Organic Compounds in Aqueous Solutions written by S. B. Brummer and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research to further the understanding of the anode of a hydrocarbon fuel cell is reported. Studies of simple organic reactions, e.g., the reduction of CO2, the oxidation of HCOOH, and the effects of adsorbed layers on their reactions in acid solutions are reported. Methods of determining the properties of adsorbate layers are experimentally and theoretically explored. Methods to allow determination of double layer charging effects and electrode oxidation corrections are developed. Studies of the Pt electrocatalytic surface show it to be markedly heterogeneous. Studies of the formation of 'reduced CO2', the main intermediate in hydrocarbon oxidation, have been carried out. The mechanism of HCOOH oxidation has been explored. It has been shown that the product of a side reaction blocks the electrode and inhibits the desired reaction. The electroactive species is apparently HCOO( - ). The effects of adsorbed inorganic layers on HCOOH oxidation have been studied with a view to developing a non-noble metal catalyst stabilized by adsorption. Experiments with Cu, Ag, Pb, Hg, S, and Cl( - ) are reported. The most reactive layers are Pb, Hg, and S. (Author).

Book Perspectives on Structure and Mechanism in Organic Chemistry

Download or read book Perspectives on Structure and Mechanism in Organic Chemistry written by Felix A. Carroll and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-05-09 with total page 869 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PERSPECTIVES ON STRUCTURE AND MECHANISM IN ORGANIC CHEMISTRY “Beyond the basics” physical organic chemistry textbook, written for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students Based on the author’s first-hand classroom experience, Perspectives on Structure and Mechanism in Organic Chemistry uses complementary conceptual models to give new perspectives on the structures and reactions of organic compounds, with the overarching goal of helping students think beyond the simple models of introductory organic chemistry courses. Through this approach, the text better prepares readers to develop new ideas in the future. In the 3rd Edition, the author thoroughly updates the topics covered and reorders the contents to introduce computational chemistry earlier and to provide a more natural flow of topics, proceeding from substitution, to elimination, to addition. About 20% of the 438 problems have been either replaced or updated, with answers available in the companion solutions manual. To remind students of the human aspect of science, the text uses the names of investigators throughout the text and references material to original (or accessible secondary or tertiary) literature as a guide for students interested in further reading. Sample topics covered in Perspectives on Structure and Mechanism in Organic Chemistry include: Fundamental concepts of organic chemistry, covering atoms and molecules, heats of formation and reaction, bonding models, and double bonds Density functional theory, quantum theory of atoms in molecules, Marcus Theory, and molecular simulations Asymmetric induction in nucleophilic additions to carbonyl compounds and dynamic effects on reaction pathways Reactive intermediates, covering reaction coordinate diagrams, radicals, carbenes, carbocations, and carbanions Methods of studying organic reactions, including applications of kinetics in studying reaction mechanisms and Arrhenius theory and transition state theory A comprehensive yet accessible reference on the subject, Perspectives on Structure and Mechanism in Organic Chemistry is an excellent learning resource for students of organic chemistry, medicine, and biochemistry. The text is ideal as a primary text for courses entitled Advanced Organic Chemistry at the upper undergraduate and graduate levels.

Book Progress in Electrochemistry of Organic Compounds 1

Download or read book Progress in Electrochemistry of Organic Compounds 1 written by A. N. Frumkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Soviet Union, investigations of electrochemical changes in organic substances are being conducted on a comparatively large scale and a large number of specialists are involved. This arises to a large extent from the necessity to solve problems in the applied fields, e.g. in the development of new improved methods for the analysis and synthesis of organic compounds or in the work on fuel cells. The attainment of substantial successes in this field has been linked inseparably with a deeper understanding of the mechanism and kinetics of electrolytic organic reactions and the utilization of modem research methods based on the latest achievements in instrumentation. The theory of organic electrode processes is therefore now developing rapidly. However, the propagation of information on this work has been relatively slow. The Series of reports on Progress in Electrochemistry of Organic Compounds should stimulate systematic treatment and propagation of information in this field of science. It is proposed that each volume of the series will be compiled on the same lines as the book Advances in Electrochemistry of Organic Compounds published by Nauka in 1966. They will form collections of original review articles on the most important aspects of the subject, prepared by competent authorities.
