Download or read book Mechanisms of Follow up to the Programme of Action on Population and Development in the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean written by United Nations. Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and published by Santiago de Chile : Naciones Unidas, CEPAL, ECLAC. This book was released on 2001 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document analyses the results of a survey conducted by the Latin American and Caribbean Demographic Centre (CELADE) - Population Division of ECLAC in the framework of activities underway to develop systems of indicators for follow-up to the Programme of Action on Population and Development established at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) of 1994, and to the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Plan of Action on Population and Development, which was approved in its final form in 1996. The data from this survey, which was conducted in late 2000, was complemented with selected information from the Eighth United Nations Inquiry among Governments on Population and Development, conducted by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs at the United Nations Secretariat in 1998, and from the Inquiry on Country-Level Experiences since the International Conference on Population and Development, which was conducted, also in 1998, by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Book Proposal on Indicators for Follow up to the Goals of the International Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean

Download or read book Proposal on Indicators for Follow up to the Goals of the International Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean written by CELADE (Organization) and published by United Nations Publications. This book was released on 2002 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document is intended to provide a frame of reference for the design and implementation of a system of indicators for use in following up on the goals agreed upon at the International Conference on Population and Development and set forth in the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Plan of Action on Population and Development. One of the elements taken into consideration in this proposal is the sociodemographic diversity existing in the countries of the region, which makes it difficult to design a uniform system for monitoring progress. A system is proposed at the regional level for comparing the indicators with quantitative targets as a means of evaluating how much progress is being made and identifying inequalities. This system would also provide background information for the design of social policies. The ultimate aim of the system is to serve as a basis for the development of national systems adapted to the circumstances existing in each country.

Book At a Crossroads

  • Author : María Marta Ferreyra
  • Publisher : World Bank Publications
  • Release : 2017-05-18
  • ISBN : 146481015X
  • Pages : 387 pages

Download or read book At a Crossroads written by María Marta Ferreyra and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2017-05-18 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean has expanded dramatically in the past 15 years, as the average gross enrollment rate has more than doubled, and many new institutions and programs have been opened. Although higher education access has become more equitable, and higher education supply has become more varied, many of the 'new' students in the system are, on average, less academically ready than are their more advantaged counterparts. Furthermore, only half of higher education students, on average, complete their degree, and labor market returns to higher education vary greatly across institutions and programs. Thus, higher education is at a crossroads today. Given the region's urgency to raise productivity in a low-growth, fiscally constrained environment, going past this crossroads requires the formation of skilled human capital fast and efficiently. 'At a Crossroads: Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean' contributes to the discussion by studying quality, variety, and equity of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean. The book presents comprehensive evidence on the recent higher education expansion and evolution of higher education labor market returns. Using novel data and state-of-the-art methods, it studies demand and supply drivers of the recent expansion. It investigates the behavior of institutions and students and explores the unintended consequences of large-scale higher education policies. Framing the analysis are the singular characteristics of the higher education market and the market segmentation induced by the variety of students and institutions in the system. At this crossroads, a role emerges for incentives, information, accountability, and choice."

Book World Population Prospects 2019 Highlights

Download or read book World Population Prospects 2019 Highlights written by United Nations Publications and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United Nations population estimates and projections form a comprehensive set of demographic data to assess population trends at the global, regional and national levels. They are used in the calculation of many of the key development indicators commonly used by the United Nations system, including for more than one third of the indicators used to monitor progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The 2019 revision of the World Population Prospects is the twenty-sixth edition of the official United Nations population estimates and projections, which have been prepared since 1951 by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The 2019 revision presents population estimates from 1950 until the present for 235 countries or areas, which have been developed through country-specific analyses of historical demographic trends. It builds on previous revisions by incorporating additional results from the 2010 and 2020 rounds of national population censuses as well as information from vital registration and recent nationally representative household sample surveys. The 2019 revision also presents population projections to the year 2100 that reflect a range of plausible outcomes at the global, regional and country levels. These Highlights summarise key population trends described by the estimates and projections presented in World Population Prospects 2019.
