Book Fire Spread Characteristics Determined in the Laboratory

Download or read book Fire Spread Characteristics Determined in the Laboratory written by Richard C. Rothermel and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuel beds of ponderosa pine needles and white pine needles were burned under controlled environmental conditions to determine the effects of fuel moisture and windspeed upon the rate of fire spread. Empirical formulas are presented to show the effect of these parameters. A discussion of rate of spread and some simple experiments show how fuel may be preheated before the fire reaches the fuel. The interrelationship between unit energy release rate and rate of spread produces a fire characteristics curve. Diffusion flame analysis shows good agreement when working with 1/2-inch stick fires.

Download or read book Combustion Phenomena written by Jozef Jarosinski and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-02-12 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensively using experimental and numerical illustrations, CombustionPhenomena: Selected Mechanisms of Flame Formation, Propagation, and Extinction provides a comprehensive survey of the fundamental processes of flame formation, propagation, and extinction. Taking you through the stages of combustion, leading experts visually display, mathematically explain, and clearly theorize on important physical topics of combustion. After a historical introduction to the field, they discuss combustion chemistry, flammability limits, and spark ignition. They also study counterflow twin-flame configuration, flame in a vortex core, the propagation characteristics of edge flames, instabilities, and tulip flames. In addition, the book describes flame extinction in narrow channels, global quenching of premixed flames by turbulence, counterflow premixed flame extinction limits, the interaction of flames with fluids in rotating vessels, and turbulent flames. The final chapter explores diffusion flames as well as combustion in spark- and compression-ignition engines. It also examines the transition from deflagration to detonation, along with the detonation wave structure. With downloadable resources of images that beautifully illustrate a range of combustion phenomena, this book facilitates a practical understanding of the processes occurring in the conception, spread, and extinguishment of a flame. It will help you on your way to finding solutions to real issues encountered in transportation, power generation, industrial processes, chemical engineering, and fire and explosion hazards.

Book Mechanisms of Fire Spread Research Progress Report No 2

Download or read book Mechanisms of Fire Spread Research Progress Report No 2 written by Hal E. Anderson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-17 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mechanisms of Fire Spread Research Progress Report No. 2: Field Study Under Grant No. Nsf-G-16303 Slash was collected, and 24 plots were prepared at the Priest River Experimental Forest in May 1962. Lodgepole pine and Douglas-fir slash from full tree crowns was collected on nearby State of Idaho lands in active logging area. The bole and large tree limbs were not included. Only the tree tip (4 feet to 6 feet) was included with the branches. This slash was hauled to an experi mental burning area on a flat at the south west end of the experimental forest.nations were necessary to calculate the wet weight loading of fuel beds which would yield and tons per acre dry weight. Boundaries for experimental burning plots were laid out with stakes and strings. Thirty six 6 by 60-foot plots were staked in 6 by 6 foot increments (10 increments for 60 feet). Some plots were not used because of irregularities or roughness of the ground. Twenty-four plots were assigned fuel loadings by random selection. The plots were repli cated four times for the two species and three loadings. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Fire Hazards of Exterior Wall Assemblies Containing Combustible Components

Download or read book Fire Hazards of Exterior Wall Assemblies Containing Combustible Components written by Nathan White and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SpringerBrief presents strategies for fire mitigation based on combustible assembly systems of exterior walls. Providing background information on common exterior wall systems, the mechanisms of fire spread, and case studies, it examines the difficulties in controlling a fire with several materials and assembly methods. The brief compiles information on typical fire scenarios which involve the exterior wall, along with further exploration into test methods, approval and regulatory requirements for the various assembly systems. Offering testing approaches for possible mitigation strategies, the brief takes into account that current commercial wall assembly systems are constructed to improve energy performance, reduce water and air infiltration, and allow for aesthetic design flexibility. Exterior Insulation Finish Systems, metal composite claddings, high-pressure laminates, and weather-resistive barrier systems all have components which directly impact the fire hazard. Recommendations for future exterior wall construction are based on identified knowledge gaps.

Book A Gallery of Combustion and Fire

Download or read book A Gallery of Combustion and Fire written by Charles E. Baukal, Jr. and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-09-03 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Gallery of Combustion and Fire is the first book to provide a graphical perspective of the extremely visual phenomenon of combustion in full color. It is designed primarily to be used in parallel with, and supplement existing combustion textbooks that are usually in black and white, making it a challenge to visualize such a graphic phenomenon. Each image includes a description of how it was generated, which is detailed enough for the expert but simple enough for the novice. Processes range from small scale academic flames up to full scale industrial flames under a wide range of conditions such as low and normal gravity, atmospheric to high pressures, actual and simulated flames, and controlled and uncontrolled flames. Containing over 500 color images, with over 230 contributors from over 75 organizations, this volume is a valuable asset for experts and novices alike.
