Book Nanozymes Next Wave of Artificial Enzymes

Download or read book Nanozymes Next Wave of Artificial Enzymes written by Xiaoyu Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the fundamental concepts, the latest developments and the outlook of the field of nanozymes (i.e., the catalytic nanomaterials with enzymatic characteristics). As one of today’s most exciting fields, nanozyme research lies at the interface of chemistry, biology, materials science and nanotechnology. Each of the book’s six chapters explores advances in nanozymes. Following an introduction to the rise of nanozymes research in the course of research on natural enzymes and artificial enzymes in Chapter 1, Chapters 2 through 5 discuss different nanomaterials used to mimic various natural enzymes, from carbon-based and metal-based nanomaterials to metal oxide-based nanomaterials and other nanomaterials. In each of these chapters, the nanomaterials’ enzyme mimetic activities, catalytic mechanisms and key applications are covered. In closing, Chapter 6 addresses the current challenges and outlines further directions for nanozymes. Presenting extensive information on nanozymes and supplemented with a wealth of color illustrations and tables, the book offers an ideal guide for readers from disparate areas, including analytical chemistry, materials science, nanoscience and nanotechnology, biomedical and clinical engineering, environmental science and engineering, green chemistry, and novel catalysis.

This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to novel nanostructured materials and nanotechnology. A comprehensive analysis of the condensing methods of preparation of novel nanostructured materials is given. The methodology of power-consuming preparation of nanostructured materials is discussed, including thermolysis, photo- and radiolytic, electrochemical and mechanochemical methods. The peculiarities of chemical transformations in organic and inorganic matrices are compared. Special attention is given to kinetics and mechanism of the formation of nanocomposites. The structure and properties of such nanostructured materials are analysed.

Book Protein Sequence Determination

Download or read book Protein Sequence Determination written by Saul B. Needleman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "All the King's horses and all the King's mm couldn't put Humpty Dumpty together again." It is entirely possible that the difficulty facing "all the King's men" was principally the lack of a sufficient guide to the techniques of reassembling from a series of small components, the original entity. It is the sincere hope of the editor of the present work and of each of the contributing authors that the modern researcher will not face a similar predicament in his endeavours to reconstruct the complete primary sequence of a protein from the array of component amino acids. Rather, it is the intent that, with this volume, he may proceed untimorously if not with outright confidence toward achieving his purpose. To the newcomer in protein sequencing, compelled by necessity, or fascination, to investigate the exact order of amino acids in proteins, the question of "where to begin" - or "how to do it" is urgent. To those more skilled, a ready source of additional techniques should nevertheless be of value. This volume attempts to present in a single source a discussion of the methods and techniques useful to the determination of the primary structures of proteins and peptides. Hopefully, this book will tell the reader "how to do it".

Book Free Radical Induced DNA Damage and Its Repair

Download or read book Free Radical Induced DNA Damage and Its Repair written by Clemens von Sonntag and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-02 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The free-radical chemistry of DNA had been discussed in some detail in 1987 in my book The Chemical Basis of Radiation Biology. Obviously, the more recent developments and the concomitant higher level of understanding of mechanistic details are missing. Moreover, in the living cell, free-radical DNA damage is not only induced by ionizing radiation, but free-radical-induced DNA damage is a much more general phenomenon. It was, therefore, felt that it is now timely to review our present knowledge of free-radical-induced DNA damage induced by all conceivable free-radical-generating sources. Originally, it had been thought to include also a very important aspect, the repair of DNA damage by the cell’s various repair enzymes. Kevin Prise (Cancer Campaign, Gray Laboratory, L- don) was so kind to agree to write this part. However, an adequate description of this strongly expanding area would have exceeded the allocated space by much, and this section had to be omitted. The directors of the Max-Planck-Institut für Strahlenchemie (now MPI für Bioanorganische Chemie), Karl Wieghardt and Wolfgang Lubitz, kindly allowed me to continue to use its facilities after my retirement in 2001. Notably, our - brarian, Mrs. Jutta Theurich, and her right-hand help, Mrs. Rosemarie Schr- er, were most helpful in getting hold of the literature. I thank them very much. Without their constant help, this would have been very difficult indeed.
