Book Hydrocarbon Chemistry and Chemiluminescence in High Altitude Plumes

Download or read book Hydrocarbon Chemistry and Chemiluminescence in High Altitude Plumes written by R. H. Kummler and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A plausible simplified mechanism for the oxidation of hydrocarbons under conditions germane to high altitude plumes has been outlined. It was found that in the low pressure, high oxygen atom environment above 100 km, a sequence of bimolecular reactions leading to both IR and UV light emission can be initiated by the oxygen atom attack on secondary hydrogens in saturated hydrocarbons containing more than three carbon atoms as well as by O and OH attack on the unsaturated hydrocarbons which may be present initially or produced in the sequence. A specific set of prototype reactions with rate constants is recommended for the basic chemistry on the basis of an extensive review of the current literature; a model is provided for IR chemiluminescence which follows the main mechanism; and a UV perturbation mechanism based upon the presence of acetylene is suggested. Book Chemiluminescence and Chemi ionization in Nitrogen Atom oxygen Atom carbon Compound Reactions

Download or read book Chemiluminescence and Chemi ionization in Nitrogen Atom oxygen Atom carbon Compound Reactions written by Arthur Fontijn and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The addition of certain carbon compounds (e.g., C2F4, C2H4 and C2H2) to atomic N/O mixtures results in emission of the CO Fourth Positive Bands (A singlet Pi - X singlet Sigma), and in large increases in the NO(+) chemi-ion formation rate. Addition of C2F4 also produces increases of the intensity of the NO gamma bands (A doublet Sigma - X doublet Pi), NO beta bands (B doublet Pi - X doublet Pi) and O(singlet S - singlet D) emission. The processes discussed should be distinguished from the formation of CHO(+) chemi-ions and CO(A singlet Pi) in the reactions of oxygen atoms with hydrocarbons such as C2H2. (Author).

Book Chemi and Bioluminescence

Download or read book Chemi and Bioluminescence written by John G. Burr and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-08-19 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on instrumentation of chemi- and bioluminescence and discusses the nature of chemiluminescence as the exothermic oxidation of a substrate organic compound to give an energy-rich product that is luminescent. It describes the applications of chemiluminescence.

Book Progress in Reaction Kinetics

Download or read book Progress in Reaction Kinetics written by K. R. Jennings and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-07 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Reaction Kinetics, Volume 8 explores the rates of chemical processes of different elements and compounds. In this volume, a review of significant developments in both gas and solution kinetics is given, followed by the relating of current work to earlier studies. Studied in this volume are the reactions of atomic oxygen with organic compounds; the kinetics of gaseous fluorine reactions and proton-transfer reaction in aprotic solvents; the chemical aspects of homogeneous liquid phase inorganic oscillatory reactions; and the mechanisms for the photochemical production of hydrocarbons in gaseous hydrocarbon systems. The book is highly recommended for those who study and practice in the different fields of chemistry, especially those who specifically wish to learn more about reaction kinetics.

Book Infrared Chemiluminescence From the Reactions of Oxygen Atoms With Halomethanes

Download or read book Infrared Chemiluminescence From the Reactions of Oxygen Atoms With Halomethanes written by Samuel James Arnold and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared chemiluminescene from vibrationally excited CO was observed when CH3Cl, CH2Cl2, CHCl3 or CH2Br2 was introduced into a stream of oxygen atoms. Emission from vibrationally excited HC1 was also observed from CH2Cl2 and CHCl3. The mechanisms describing the reactions of oxygen atoms with these molecules are discussed in detail. Book Reaction Mechanism of Oxygen Atoms with Unsaturated Hydrocarbons by the Crossed Molecular Beams Method

Download or read book Reaction Mechanism of Oxygen Atoms with Unsaturated Hydrocarbons by the Crossed Molecular Beams Method written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a series of studies of the reaction of oxygen atoms with unsaturated hydrocarbons using the crossed molecular beam method, the dominant reaction mechanisms were found to be the simple substitution reactions with oxygen atoms replacing H, Cl, Br atom or alkyl groups. Complication due to secondary reaction was avoided by carrying out experiments under single collisions and observing primary products directly. Primary products were identified by measuring the angular and velocity distributions of products at all the mass numbers which could be detected by the mass spectrometer, and from comparison of these distributions, applying the requirement of energy and momentum conservation.

Book Study of the Reaction of Atomic Oxygen with Aerosols

Download or read book Study of the Reaction of Atomic Oxygen with Aerosols written by Francis I. Akers and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rate of disappearance of atomic oxygen was measured at several pressures in a fast flow pyrex reactor system with its walls treated with (NH4)2SO4 (s), H2SO4 (l), and NH4CL (s). Atomic oxygen, P-3 was generated by dissociation of pure, low pressure oxygen in a microwave discharge. Concentrations of atomic oxygen were measured at several stations in the reactor system using chemiluminescent titration with NO2. Recombination efficiencies calculated from experimentally determined wall recombination rate constants are in good agreement with reported values for clean Pyrex and an H2SO4 coated wall. The recombination efficiency for (NH4)2SO4, results in a slightly lower value than for H2S04. A rapid exothermic reaction between atomic oxygen and the NH4Cl wall coating prevented recombination efficiency determination for this coating. The results show that the technique is highly useful for wall recombination measurements and as a means of extrapolating to the case of free stream aerosol-gas interactions.
