Book Advances in Interlaboratory Testing and Evaluation of Bituminous Materials

Download or read book Advances in Interlaboratory Testing and Evaluation of Bituminous Materials written by Manfred N. Partl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-17 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This STAR on asphalt materials presents the achievements of RILEM TC 206 ATB, acquired over many years of interlaboratory tests and international knowledge exchange. It covers experimental aspects of bituminous binder fatigue testing; the background on compaction methods and imaging techniques for characterizing asphalt mixtures including validation of a new imaging software; it focuses on experimental questions and analysis tools regarding mechanical wheel tracking tests, comparing results from different labs and using finite element techniques. Furthermore, long-term rutting prediction and evaluation for an Austrian road are discussed, followed by an extensive analysis and test program on interlayer bond testing of three different test sections which were specifically constructed for this purpose. Finally, the key issue of manufacturing reclaimed hot mix asphalt in the laboratory is studied and recommendations for laboratory ageing of bituminous mixtures are given.

Book Non destructive Testing and Evaluation of Civil Engineering Structures

Download or read book Non destructive Testing and Evaluation of Civil Engineering Structures written by Jean-Paul Balayssac and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The non-destructive evaluation of civil engineering structures in reinforced concrete is becoming an increasingly important issue in this field of engineering. This book proposes innovative ways to deal with this problem, through the characterization of concrete durability indicators by the use of non-destructive techniques. It presents the description of the various non-destructive techniques and their combination for the evaluation of indicators. The processing of data issued from the combination of NDE methods is also illustrated through examples of data fusion methods. The identification of conversion models linking observables, obtained from non-destructive measurements, to concrete durability indicators, as well as the consideration of different sources of variability in the assessment process, are also described. An analysis of in situ applications is carried out in order to highlight the practical aspects of the methodology. At the end of the book the authors provide a methodological guide detailing the proposed non-destructive evaluation methodology of concrete indicators. - Presents the latest developments performed in the community of NDT on different aspects - Provides a methodology developed in laboratory and transferred onsite for the evaluation of concrete properties which are not usually addressed by NDT methods - Includes the use of data fusion for merging the measurements provided by several NDT methods - Includes examples of current and potential applications

Book Mechanical Evaluation Strategies for Plastics

Download or read book Mechanical Evaluation Strategies for Plastics written by D R Moore and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-11-08 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermoplastics, being non-linear viscoelastic, impose constraints on testing. End products manufactured from these thermopolastics are often anisotropic and tend to complicate the relationships between laboratory test data and service performance. Mechanical Evaluation Strategies for Plastic Materials explains new testing strategies for providing service-pertinent data within a limited budget. It relates the structure of the tests and the functions that they serve to the intrinsic nature of the mechanical properties of thermoplastic materials.

Book Mechanical Testing of Materials

Book Material Evaluation Part I Mechanical Property Testing and Materials Evaluation and Modeling

Download or read book Material Evaluation Part I Mechanical Property Testing and Materials Evaluation and Modeling written by Noel E. Ashbaugh and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To accomplish the assessment of the characteristics of materials which are currently being used or which may be used in airframes and in gas-turbine engines, the following three tasks were performed--development and implementation of mechanical test methods, research on the application of solid mechanics to failure prediction, and investigation of environmental effects upon mechanical behavior. Some of the test methods which were developed in the first task were a low-cycle-fatigue (LCF) test capability, an experimental set-up to evaluate crack growth under sustained load, and a capability to conduct crack-growth tests under spectrum loads. In these tests the temperature range was normally between 538 C (1000 F) and 760 C (1400 F), and the specimen geometries were uniform gage specimens for the LCF tests, compact-type (CT) specimens for the sustained-load crack-growth tests, and CT and wedge-opening-loaded (WOL) specimens for crack-growth tests under spectrum loads. The tests which were conducted on material behavior provided data for at least 30 reports and journal articles. These tests, in addition to the previously developed tests, included uniaxial tension and compression tests, creep tests, fatigue-life tests, and single and multiple overload and underload tests. The temperature range for these tests was between room temperature and 760 C (1400 F). Equipment and instrumentation which were designed and fabricated for these tests included resistant furnaces, induction coils, d.c. conditioners, and power controllers.
