Book Product Form Variability in the Mechanical Behavior of Type 304 Stainless Steel at Room Temperature and 593 C 1100 F

Download or read book Product Form Variability in the Mechanical Behavior of Type 304 Stainless Steel at Room Temperature and 593 C 1100 F written by WJ. McAfee and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data are presented that describe the variability of 15 products of a reference heat of Type 304 stainless steel tested in the laboratory reannealed condition. Included in the data are chemistry, hardness, grain size, yield strength at room temperature, tensile curves at 593°C (1100°F), and creep-rupture curves to 1000 h at 593°C (1100°F). The standard deviation, representing the variation in the yield strength of the 15 products about the average, is near ±7.7 MPa at room temperature and ±6.3 MPa at 593°C (1100°F). The 1000-h rupture strength varies by 3.8 percent from the average and the stress to produce a minimum creep rate of 0.01 percent/h by 3.0 percent. Variation of strength in the primary creep range is also examined. The strength for a standard product, 25-mm plate, for which a large data base exists, is compared to the behavior of the other products, and it is observed that the 25-mm plate is fairly representative of the product average. Reasons for variability are examined, and it is thought that carbon content, nitrogen content, grain size, temperature control, and extensometer performance contribute to variability, and the extent depends on the type of test.

Book Product from Variability in the Mechanical Behavior of Type 304 Stainless Steel at Room Temperature and 593 C 1100 F

Download or read book Product from Variability in the Mechanical Behavior of Type 304 Stainless Steel at Room Temperature and 593 C 1100 F written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data are presented that describe the variability of 15 products of a reference heat of type 304 stainless steel tested in the laboratory reannealed condition: chemistry hardness, grain size, yield strength at room temperature, tensile curves at 593°C (1100°F), and creep-rupture curves to 1000 h at 593°C (1100°F). The standard deviation, representing the variation in the yield strength of the 15 products about the average, is near+-l.7 MPa at room temperature and +-6.3 MPa at 593°C (1100°F). The 1000-h rupture strength varies by 2.5 percent (approximately +-6.2 MPa) from the average and the stress to produce a minimum creep rate of 0.01 percent/h by 3.0 percent (approximately +-5.0 MPa). Variation of strength in the primary creep range is also examined. It is observed that the 25-mm plate is fairly representative of the product average. Reasons for variability are examined: carbon content, nitrogen content, grain size, temperature control, and extensometer performance. 7 tables, 5 figures.

Book Mechanical Properties of Several Products from a Single Heat of Type 304 Stainless Steel

Download or read book Mechanical Properties of Several Products from a Single Heat of Type 304 Stainless Steel written by and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From winter meeting of American Society of Mechanical Engineers; Detroit, Michigan, USA (11 Nov 1973). Tensile and stress-rupture tests were run on several products from a 90-ton heat of type 304 stainless steel. The yield stress of the products in the as-received condition varied from 26,500 to 57,200 psi at 75 deg F. There were significant differences between the strengths of various products and considerable variation for a single product due to nonuniform residual cold work. Reannealing 0.5 h at 2000 deg F resulted in yield stresses in the 25,000 to 27,000 psi range; only the properties of the hot- reduced tubing fell below this range. At a test temperature of 1100 deg F, the as-received products had yield stresses from 14,800 to 35,500 psi. Reannealing caused the yield stresses of all but three products to fall in the range 10,200 to 11,700 psi. Stress-rupture tests at 1100 deg F on the reannealed products did not reveal significant variation in properties. (auth).

Book Manufacturing and Application of Stainless Steels

Download or read book Manufacturing and Application of Stainless Steels written by Andrea Di Schino and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-04-15 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stainless steels represent a quite interesting material family, both from a scientific and commercial point of view, following to their excellent combination in terms of strength and ductility together with corrosion resistance. Thanks to such properties, stainless steels have been indispensable for the technological progress during the last century and their annual consumption increased faster than other materials. They find application in all these fields requiring good corrosion resistance together with ability to be worked into complex geometries. Despite to their diffusion as a consolidated materials, many research fields are active regarding the possibility to increase stainless steels mechanical properties and corrosion resistance by grain refinement or by alloying by interstitial elements. At the same time innovations are coming from the manufacturing process of such a family of materials, also including the possibility to manufacture them starting from metals powder for 3D printing. The Special Issue scope embraces interdisciplinary work covering physical metallurgy and processes, reporting about experimental and theoretical progress concerning microstructural evolution during processing, microstructure-properties relations, applications including automotive, energy and structural.

Book Engineering Materials 2

Download or read book Engineering Materials 2 written by Michael F. Ashby and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a thorough explanation of the basic properties of materials; of how these can be controlled by processing; of how materials are formed, joined and finished; and of the chain of reasoning that leads to a successful choice of material for a particular application. The materials covered are grouped into four classes: metals, ceramics, polymers and composites. Each class is studied in turn, identifying the families of materials in the class, the microstructural features, the processes or treatments used to obtain a particular structure and their design applications. The text is supplemented by practical case studies and example problems with answers, and a valuable programmed learning course on phase diagrams.
