Book Mechanical Behaviour of Engineering Materials

Download or read book Mechanical Behaviour of Engineering Materials written by Joachim Roesler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-10-16 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do engineering materials deform when bearing mechanical loads? To answer this crucial question, the book bridges the gap between continuum mechanics and materials science. The different kinds of material deformation are explained in detail. The book also discusses the physical processes occurring during the deformation of all classes of engineering materials and shows how these materials can be strengthened to meet the design requirements. It provides the knowledge needed in selecting the appropriate engineering material for a certain design problem. This book is both a valuable textbook and a useful reference for graduate students and practising engineers.

Book Thermo Mechanical Processing of Metallic Materials

Download or read book Thermo Mechanical Processing of Metallic Materials written by Bert Verlinden and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-06-07 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermo-Mechanical Processing of Metallic Materials describes the science and technology behind modern thermo-mechanical processing (TMP), including detailed descriptions of successful examples of its application in the industry. This graduate-level introductory resource aims to fill the gap between two scientific approaches and illustrate their successful linkage by the use of suitable modern case studies. The book is divided into three key sections focusing on the basics of metallic materials processing. The first section covers the microstructural science base of the subject, including the microstructure determined mechanical properties of metals. The second section deals with the current mechanical technology of plastic forming of metals. The concluding section demonstrates the interaction of the first two disciplines in a series of case studies of successful current TMP processing and looks ahead to possible new developments in the field. This text is designed for use by graduate students coming into the field, for a graduate course textbook, and for Materials and Mechanical Engineers working in this area in the industry. * Covers both physical metallurgy and metals processing * Links basic science to real everyday applications * Written by four internationally-known experts in the field

Book Metallic Materials

Download or read book Metallic Materials written by Philip A. Schweitzer, P.E. and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-01-07 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metallic Materials compares and contrasts the corrosion resistance of wrought stainless steel and high nickel alloys and explores recent advances in the production of exotic metals. It emphasizes the physical and mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, workability and cost of various metals. The authors analyze the physical and mechanical properties of metals, define relevant terminology, describe the various forms of corrosion to which metals may be susceptible, examine wrought ferrous metals, alloys, and typical applications, and cover wrought nickel and high nickel alloys. This is a handy reference for the busy engineer and student in corrosion, materials, chemical, mechanical, civil, design, process, metallurgical, manufacturing, and industrial engineering.

Book Mechanical Properties of Materials at Low Temperatures

Download or read book Mechanical Properties of Materials at Low Temperatures written by D. Wigley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In writing this monograph, the aim has been to consider the mechanical properties of the wide range of materials now available in such a way as to start with the fundamental nature of these properties and to follow the discussion through to the point at which the reader is able to comprehend the significance or otherwise of the large amounts of data now available in design manuals and other compilations. In short, it is hoped that this volume will be used as a companion to these data compilations and as an aid to their interpretation. In attempting to cover such a wide field, a large degree of selection has been necessary, as complete volumes have been written on topics which here have had to be covered in a few pages or less. It is inevitable that not everyone will agree with the choice made, especially if it is his own subject which has been discussed rather briefly, and the author accepts full res ponsibility for the selection made. The book is written at a level which should be easily followed by a university graduate in science or engineer ing, although, if his background has not included a course in materials science, some groundwork may be lacking.

Book Mechanical Properties of Metals

Download or read book Mechanical Properties of Metals written by C. W. Lung and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is intended to describe the basic and newly developed elements of the physics of solids and materials science on mechanical properties of metals with as much continuity as is possible. Particular emphasis has been placed in atomistic and fractal approaches and continuum theory of dislocations is also introduced. Since the book is meant for the two main topics of progress in recent years, some interesting and important topics which have not been discussed or introduced are given in detail. For a long time, pair potentials were used very expensively in simulation studies. They can reproduce usefully total energies for many systems. But when one turns to elastic properties, fracture of surfaces, and the vacancy formation energy, deficiencies and limitations begin to emerge. These limitations of the simple pair potential approximation have been addressed by the development of empirical many-body potentials which is the major theme of our book.Over a decade or more, diverse scientists have recognized that many of the structures common in their experiments have a special kind of geometrical complexity. The key to this progress is the recognition that many random structures obey a symmetry that objects look the same on many different scales of observation. The concept of fractals was introduced by Mandelbrot and applied to fractures by himself and collaborators. Their work pointed to a correlation between toughness and the fractal dimension. Our interest is the fractal aspects of fractured surfaces. We will discuss more in our book. The strain field of a dislocation has a long range part and this part can be discussed rigorously from elasticity theory. Recent progress in elastic strain fields and dislocation mobility were made by Indenbom and Lothe. The elementary essentials will be introduced in our book.
