Book Motion Analysis and Image Sequence Processing

Download or read book Motion Analysis and Image Sequence Processing written by M. Ibrahim Sezan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An image or video sequence is a series of two-dimensional (2-D) images sequen tially ordered in time. Image sequences can be acquired, for instance, by video, motion picture, X-ray, or acoustic cameras, or they can be synthetically gen erated by sequentially ordering 2-D still images as in computer graphics and animation. The use of image sequences in areas such as entertainment, visual communications, multimedia, education, medicine, surveillance, remote control, and scientific research is constantly growing as the use of television and video systems are becoming more and more common. The boosted interest in digital video for both consumer and professional products, along with the availability of fast processors and memory at reasonable costs, has been a major driving force behind this growth. Before we elaborate on the two major terms that appear in the title of this book, namely motion analysis and image sequence processing, we like to place them in their proper contexts within the range of possible operations that involve image sequences. In this book, we choose to classify these operations into three major categories, namely (i) image sequence processing, (ii) image sequence analysis, and (iii) visualization. The interrelationship among these three categories is pictorially described in Figure 1 below in the form of an "image sequence triangle".

Book Motion and Structure from Image Sequences

Download or read book Motion and Structure from Image Sequences written by Juyang Weng and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motion and Structure from Image Sequences is invaluable reading for researchers, graduate students, and practicing engineers dealing with computer vision. It presents a balanced treatment of the theoretical and practical issues, including very recent results - some of which are published here for the first time. The topics covered in detail are: - image matching and optical flow computation - structure from stereo - structure from motion - motion estimation - integration of multiple views - motion modeling and prediction Aspects such as uniqueness of the solution, degeneracy conditions, error analysis, stability, optimality, and robustness are also investigated. These details together with the fact that the algorithms are accessible without necessarily studying the rest of the material, make this book particularly attractive to practitioners.

Download or read book Image Sequence Analysis written by T. S. Huang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The processing of image sequences has a broad spectrum of important applica tions including target tracking, robot navigation, bandwidth compression of TV conferencing video signals, studying the motion of biological cells using microcinematography, cloud tracking, and highway traffic monitoring. Image sequence processing involves a large amount of data. However, because of the progress in computer, LSI, and VLSI technologies, we have now reached a stage when many useful processing tasks can be done in a reasonable amount of time. As a result, research and development activities in image sequence analysis have recently been growing at a rapid pace. An IEEE Computer Society Workshop on Computer Analysis of Time-Varying Imagery was held in Philadelphia, April 5-6, 1979. A related special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Anal ysis and Machine Intelligence was published in November 1980. The IEEE Com puter magazine has also published a special issue on the subject in 1981. The purpose of this book is to survey the field of image sequence analysis and to discuss in depth a number of important selected topics. The seven chap ters fall into two categories. Chapters 2, 3, and 7 are comprehensive surveys on, respectively, the whole field of image sequence analysis, efficient coding of image sequences, and the processing of medical image sequences. In Chapters 1, 4, 5, and 6 the authors present mainly results of their own research on, respectively, motion estimation, noise reduction in image sequences, moving object extraction, and occlusion.

Book The Measurement of Visual Motion

Download or read book The Measurement of Visual Motion written by Ellen Catherine Hildreth and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of visual motion divides naturally into two stages: the first is the measurement of motion, for example, the assignment of direction and magnitude of velocity to elements in the image, on the basis of the changing intensity pattern; the second is the use of motion measurements, for example, to separate the scene into distinct objects, and infer their three-dimensional structure. In this paper, we present a computational study of the measurement of motion. Similar to other visual processes, the motion of elements is not determined uniquely by information in the changing image; additional constraint is required to compute a unique velocity filed. Given this global ambiguity of motion. Local measurements from the changing image, such as those provided by directionally-selective simple cells in primate visual cortex, cannot possibly specify a unique local velocity vector, and in fact, specify only one component of velocity. Computation of the full two-dimensional velocity field requires the integration of local motion measurements, either over an area, or along contours in the image. We will examine possible algorithms for computing motion, based on a range of additional constraints. Finally, we will present implications for the biological computation of motion.

Book Measurement of Image Velocity

Download or read book Measurement of Image Velocity written by David J. Fleet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurement of Image Velocity presents a computational framework for computing motion information from sequences of images. Its specific goal is the measurement of image velocity (or optical flow), the projection of 3-D object motion onto the 2-D image plane. The formulation of the problem emphasizes the geometric and photometric properties of image formation, and the occurrence of multiple image velocities caused, for example, by specular reflections, shadows, or transparency. The method proposed for measuring image velocity is based on the phase behavior in the output of velocity-tuned filters. Extensive experimental work is used to show that phase can be a reliable source of pure image translation, small geometric deformation, smooth contrast variations, and multiple local velocities. Extensive theorectical analysis is used to explain the robustness of phase with respect to deviations from image translation, and to detect situations in which phase becomes unstable. The results indicate that optical flow may be extracted reliably for computing egomotion and structure from motion. The monograph also contains a review of other techniques and frequency analysis applied to image sequences, and it discusses the closely related topics of zero-crossing tracking, gradient-based methods, and the measurement of binocular disparity. The work is relevant to those studying machine vision and visual perception.

Book Motion Based Recognition

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mubarak Shah
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 1997-07-31
  • ISBN : 9780792346180
  • Pages : 396 pages

Download or read book Motion Based Recognition written by Mubarak Shah and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-07-31 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motion-based recognition deals with the recognition of an object and/or its motion, based on motion in a series of images. In this approach, a sequence containing a large number of frames is used to extract motion information. The advantage is that a longer sequence leads to recognition of higher level motions, like walking or running, which consist of a complex and coordinated series of events. Unlike much previous research in motion, this approach does not require explicit reconstruction of shape from the images prior to recognition. This book provides the state-of-the-art in this rapidly developing discipline. It consists of a collection of invited chapters by leading researchers in the world covering various aspects of motion-based recognition including lipreading, gesture recognition, facial expression recognition, gait analysis, cyclic motion detection, and activity recognition. Audience: This volume will be of interest to researchers and post- graduate students whose work involves computer vision, robotics and image processing.
