Book Electrical Testing of Cement Based Materials

Download or read book Electrical Testing of Cement Based Materials written by Robert Spragg and published by . This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These projects examined the potential for using electrical testing on concrete as a potential surrogate for obtaining information on ion and fluid transport. Electrical measurements are particularly attractive for use in quality control as they are easy to perform, are performed rapidly, and can be directly related to fluid transport. This work describes how electrical resistance measurements should be corrected for geometry to obtain a geometry independent resistivity or conductivity. Further, this work reviews and discusses several factors that influence the resistivity that is measured including porosity, pore connectivity, the role of temperature on degree of hydration (activation energy), temperature effects on conduction, ionic leaching, and the role of temperature and leaching on porosity.

Book Transport Properties of Concrete

Download or read book Transport Properties of Concrete written by Peter A. Claisse and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2020-11-05 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport Properties of Concrete: Modelling the Durability of Structures, Second Edition, covers how to measure transport properties and use the results to model performance. The transport properties of concrete and measurements of the ability of ions and fluids to move through the material. These properties largely determine the durability of concrete and of steel embedded within it, as well as the effectiveness of structures such as waste containment barriers. The book provides a comprehensive examination of the subject and will be of use to all concerned with the durability and effectiveness of concrete structures. Includes a new chapter on modelling the durability of concrete structures showing how both diffusion and pressure driven flow should be included Covers the problems that occur when carrying out transport tests on concrete incorporating both traditional and newer cement replacements Shows how properties such as permeabilty which are needed for modelling may be derived from in situ tests on structures

Book Survey of Concrete Transport Properties and Their Measurement Classic Reprint

Download or read book Survey of Concrete Transport Properties and Their Measurement Classic Reprint written by Nicos S. Martys and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Survey of Concrete Transport Properties and Their Measurement Concrete is one of the most widely used building materials in the construction of the nation's infrastructure including highways, bridges, water supply and sewage systems, harbors, locks, dams, tunnels and buildings. Over 500 million tons of concrete are produced in the United States each year of which a significant fraction is used for repair and rehabilitation rather than new construction. The service life and utility of concrete strongly depends on its transport properties li.e. Permeability, sorptivity and chloride permeability). For example, concrete is a building material with potential use for long term storage of hazardous substances such as nuclear and toxic wastes. In such applications it is essential that concrete have a very low permeability. On the other hand, it has been suggested that very low permeability high performance-concrete (hpc) may have serious deficiencies as a building material due to possible spalling when subject to high temperatures resulting from fires. Although concrete is commonly thought of as a static or unchanging material, it is, over the typical service life of a structure, a dynamical changing composite material which may undergo considerable degradation. The ingress of potentially deleterious materials such as chlorides, sulfates and water by diffusion and capillary transport can lead to the corrosion of steel reinforcement or a reduction of strength due to cracking by frost or sulfate attack. Clearly, a variety of transport mechanisms play an important role in the degradation of concrete and must be better understood to mitigate such processes. Book The Electrical Resistivity of Concrete with Emphasis on the Use of Electrical Resistance for Measuring Moisture Content

Download or read book The Electrical Resistivity of Concrete with Emphasis on the Use of Electrical Resistance for Measuring Moisture Content written by GA. Woelfl and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper describes an investigation of the electrical resistivity of concrete. In particular, electrical resistance of concrete was found to increase with decreasing water-cement ratio and increasing aggregate-cement ratio and entrained air content. The results show that calculating a water-concrete ratio by volume provides a convenient way of comparing the electrical resistivity of concretes of different mix proportions. The study also demonstrates that electrical resistance can be used to measure the moisture content of concrete. Electrical resistance increases as moisture content decreases with the least rate of change within the highest range of moisture contents. Although other techniques for measuring moisture content of concrete are more accurate, the use of electrical resistance has the advantage of being a relatively simple procedure that uses inexpensive equipment.

This book was released on 2024-01-01 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable construction, with the overarching goal of reducing the environmental footprint of everything we build is becoming increasingly important and urgent in the light of the climate change the world is facing. The use of innovative and sustainable building materials, especially concrete as the worldwide most commonly used building material, offers a great opportunity to significantly reduce climate-relevant emissions in the construction sector. Due to their performance and reliable durability, the use of innovative high-performance concretes will help to reduce the need for new constructions and to sustainably repair existing infrastructure. In new buildings in particular, the use of high-performance materials can help to save energy and natural resources, which reduces climate-relevant emissions and thus global warming. With the current HiPerMat 6, we are responding to the growing understanding of the impact of our construction activities on the environment by placing greater emphasis on sustainability issues.
