This book was released on 1974 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The result of an additional rate of strain on a turbulent parcel of fluid as it undergoes even mild streamline curvature can be very large. Until recently skin friction and heat transfer calculations have ignored this effect. Recent measurements over turbine cascades suggest that curvature influences heat transfer by an order of magnitude. In addition there exists a strong analogy between the effects of centrifugal body forces and the buoyance body force arising in density stratified flow in a gravity field. This note reports the results of a set of measurements of boundary layer development over convex and concave surfaces and compares the results with various turbulence models utilized in computational programs. A moderate curvature wind tunnel test section was constructed to examine the influence of curvature on boundary layer structure. (Modified author abstract).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourth International Symposium on Turbulent Shear Flows took place at Karlsruhe University in Germany. The papers presented at this Symposium encompassed a similar range to that of the previous meetings, with greater emphasis placed on experimental work, and continued a trend towards the examination of complex flows. Once again, three dimensional, recirculating and reacting flows featured strongly in the programme and were complemented by consideration of two-phase flows and discussions of both numerical and experimental techniques. The Symposium brought together some 300 participants from all over the world, and it was evident that there is a need for Turbulent Shear Flows Symposia, in order to obtain and communicate new information useful to researchers in the field of turbulent flows and of interest to engineers who design flow equipment. This volume contains 27 papers selected from more than 100 presentations at the Symposium which have been reviewed and edited before publication. Together they provide an indication of the status of current knowledge on the subjects represented at the Sympo sium. They are grouped into four sections, namely: • Fundamentals • Free Flows • Boundary Layers • Reacting Flows As in previous volumes in this series, each section begins with an introductory article con sidering the papers which follow in the broader context of available literature and current research.
Download or read book Coanda Effect written by Noor A Ahmed and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-08-28 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coanda effect is a complex fluid flow phenomenon enabling the production of vertical take-off/landing aircraft. Other applications range from helicopters to road vehicles, from flow mixing to combustion, from noise reduction to pollution control, from power generation to robot operation, and so forth. Book starts with description of the effect, its history and general formulation of governing equations/simplifications used in different applications. Further, it gives an account of this effect’s lift boosting potential on a wing and in non-flying vehicles including industrial applications. Finally, occurrence of the same in human body and associated adverse medical conditions are explained.
