Book Complete Atlas of Polarization Observables in Deuteron Photodisintegration Below Pion Threshold

Download or read book Complete Atlas of Polarization Observables in Deuteron Photodisintegration Below Pion Threshold written by K.-M. Schmitt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time, a complete calculation of all 288 polarization observables of deuteron photodisintegration for polarized photons and an oriented deuteron target is presented for energies below +-production threshold. The observables are calculated within a nonrelativistic framework but with inclusion of lowest-order relativistic effects. Explicit meson exchange currents and isobar configurations as manifestation of subnuclear degrees of freedom are included in the calculation. The sensitivity of the various polarization observables with respect to subnuclear degrees of freedom, to electric and magnetic multipole contributions and to a variety of realistic potential models are systematically investigated. Thus this atlas provides the most detailed and systematic survey on polarization observables of this important process. It allows to analyse the different dynamical properties of the np-system as contained in the various observables and, therefore, will be useful for both theoretical studies and for the planning and evaluation of experiments as well. It serves in addition as an important supplement to the recent general review on deuteron photodisintegration by A. Arenhövel and M. Sanzone (Few-Body Systems, Suppl. 3).

Book The Photodisintegration of the Deuteron by Polarized Photons

Download or read book The Photodisintegration of the Deuteron by Polarized Photons written by F. F. Liu and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The asymmetry in the photodisintegration of the deuteron by polarized photons has been measured between photon energies of 75 and 230 MeV. Measurements are made mostly at 90 degrees in the center of mass system, but limited data at 45 degrees and 135 degrees are also obtained. The data below 140 MeV are compared with current theories. At 90 degrees our results are generally smaller than theoretical calculations. The measured asymmetry changes sign at about 130 MeV and shows a backward peaking at the high energy points. (Author).

Book Polarization Measurements in High Energy Deuteron Photodisintegration

Download or read book Polarization Measurements in High Energy Deuteron Photodisintegration written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present measurements of the recoil proton polarization for the d(polarized y, polarized p)n reaction at thetac.m. = 90 degrees for photon energies up to 2.4 GeV. These are the first data in this reaction for polarization transfer with circularly polarized photons. The induced polarization py vanishes above 1 GeV, contrary to meson-baryon model expectations, in which resonances lead to large polarizations. However, the polarization transfer Cx does not vanish above 1 GeV, inconsistent with hadron helicity conservation. Thus, we show that the scaling behavior observed in the d(y, p)n cross sections is not a result of perturbative QCD. These data should provide important tests of new nonperturbative calculations in the intermediate energy regime.

Book Precision Measurements of Deuteron Photodisintegration Using Linearly Polarized Photons of 14 and 16 MeV

Download or read book Precision Measurements of Deuteron Photodisintegration Using Linearly Polarized Photons of 14 and 16 MeV written by Matthew Allen Blackston and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A precision measurement of the d(gamma, n)p reaction was performed at the High Intensity gamma-ray Source (HIGS), which is located at the Duke Free Electron Laser Laboratory on the campus of Duke University. The gamma-ray beams were nearly 100% linearly polarized, allowing the angular distributions of both the analyzing power and unpolarized cross section to be measured at 14 and 16 MeV. The photons were incident on a heavy water target and the neutrons from the photodisintegration reaction were detected using the Blowfish detector array, which consists of 88 liquid scintillator detectors with large angular coverage. A transition matrix element (TME) analysis was performed on the data which allowed the amplitudes of the TMEs which contribute to the reaction at these energies to be extracted. This was done by invoking Watson's theorem, which fixes the relative TME phases using the n-p scattering phase shifts, leaving the TME amplitudes as free parameters in fits to the data. The results indicated very good agreement with a recent potential model calculation for the amplitudes of the three electric dipole (E1) p-waves, which account for over 90% of the cross section at these energies. The extracted TME amplitudes were then used to construct the observable which enters into the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) Sum Rule integrand. The results are the first experimental indication of a positive value of the GDH integrand in the region near photodisintegration threshold. A positive value at these energies has been shown by theory to be due to relativistic contributions.

Book Polarization in Photodisintegration of the Deuteron

Download or read book Polarization in Photodisintegration of the Deuteron written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recoil proton polarization was measured in deuteron photodisintegration at theta{sub cm} = 90{sup o} for photon energies up to 2.4 GeV. The induced polarization py is consistent with vanishing above 1 GeV, in surprising disagreement with meson-baryon calculations. From pQCD it is generally expected that hadron helicity is conserved, but, the polarization transfer observables do not vanish. As the data are inconsistent with existing meson baryon model predictions, and with expectations from pQCD, we suggest that nonperturbative quark models will be needed to understand the underlying reaction dynamics.

Book Recoil Proton Polarization in High Energy Deuteron Photodisintegration with Circularly Polarized Photons

This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We measured the angular dependence of the three recoil-proton polarization components in two-body photodisintegration of the deuteron at a photon energy of 2 GeV. These new data provide a benchmark for calculations based on quantum chromodynamics. Two of the five existing models have made predictions of polarization observables. Both explain the longitudinal polarization transfer satisfactorily. Transverse polarizations are not well described, but suggest isovector dominance.

Book The Measurement of the Polarization of Protons from Deuteron Stripping Reactions

Download or read book The Measurement of the Polarization of Protons from Deuteron Stripping Reactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The University of Pittsburgh cyclotron and scattering system were used to investigate the angular distributions of the proton polarization for the following reactions: C/sup 12/(d, p)C/sup 13*/; Mg/sup 24/(d, p)Mg/sup 25*/; Be/sup 9/(d, p Be/sup 10*/; Si/sup 28/(d, p)Si/sup 29*/. For each reaction a measurement of the polarization at approximately every 5 deg between 10 and 80 deg was made. Deuteron elastic cross sections for the Be/sup 9/ and Si/sup 28/ reactions were measured. Data are shown in tables and figures. Results are compared with theoretical predictions and with results of other investigators. The validity of the sign rule and the possibility of determining j, from proton polarization measurements by some method other than the sign rule are discussed. (A.G.W.).

Book Proton Polarization Angular Distribution in Deuteron Photo Disintegration

Download or read book Proton Polarization Angular Distribution in Deuteron Photo Disintegration written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apparent scaling in 90 cm deuteron photodisintegration, first observed several years ago at SLAC, has lead to several related experiments and a number ot theoretical calculations. We have in the past year measured in Hall A, with up to 2.5-GeV photons, cross sections at large angles and the proton polarization at 90cm. Verypreliminary online analysis of the induced polarizations yields the very surprising result that theinduced polarizations apparently vanish starting at about the same energy at whichthe existing cross section data start to scale, to follow the constituent countingrules. Given this result, we propose further measurements to see if this observationholds at other angles.
