Book Single and Double Spin Asymmetries for Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering Measured with CLAS and a Longitudinally Polarized Proton Target

Download or read book Single and Double Spin Asymmetries for Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering Measured with CLAS and a Longitudinally Polarized Proton Target written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Single-beam, single-target, and double-spin asymmetries for hard exclusive photon production on the proton e→p→e'p'[gamma] are presented. The data were taken at Jefferson Lab using the CLAS detector and a longitudinally polarized 14NH3 target. The three asymmetries were measured in 165 4-dimensional kinematic bins, covering the widest kinematic range ever explored simultaneously for beam and target-polarization observables in the valence quark region. The kinematic dependences of the obtained asymmetries are discussed and compared to the predictions of models of Generalized Parton Distributions. As a result, the measurement of three DVCS spin observables at the same kinematic points allows a quasi-model-independent extraction of the imaginary parts of the H and H~ Compton Form Factors, which give insight into the electric and axial charge distributions of valence quarks in the proton.

Book Longitudinal Target spin Asymmetries for Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A measurement of the electroproduction of photons off protons in the deeply inelastic regime was performed at Jefferson Lab using a nearly 6-GeV electron beam, a longitudinally polarized proton target and the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer. Target-spin asymmetries for ep → e'p'y events, which arise from the interference of the deeply virtual Compton scattering and the Bethe-Heitler processes, were extracted over the widest kinematics in Q2, xB, t and [Phi], for 166 four-dimensional bins. In the framework of Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs), at leading twist the t dependence of these asymmetries provides insight on the spatial distribution of the axial charge of the proton, which appears to be concentrated in its center. In conclusion, these results bring important and necessary constraints for the existing parametrizations of chiral-even GPDs.

Book SANE s Measurement of the Proton s Virtual Photon Spin Asymmetry Ap1 at Large Bjorken X

Download or read book SANE s Measurement of the Proton s Virtual Photon Spin Asymmetry Ap1 at Large Bjorken X written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The experiment SANE (Spin Asymmetries of the Nucleon Experiment) measured inclusive double polarization electron asymmetries on a proton target at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility at the Thomas Jefferson National Laboratory in Newport News Virgina. Polarized electrons were scattered from a solid 14NH3 polarized target provided by the University of Virginia target group. Measurements were taken with the target polarization oriented at 80 degrees and 180 degrees relative to the beam direction, and beam energies of 4.7 and 5.9 GeV were used. Scattered electrons were detected by a multi-component novel non-magnetic detector package constructed for this experiment. Asymmetries measured at the two target orientations allow for the extraction of the virtual Compton asymmetries A1p and A2p as well as the spin structure functions g1p and g2p. This work addresses the extraction of the virtual Compton asymmetry A1p in the deep inelastic regime. The analysis uses data in the kinematic range from Bjorken x of 0.30 to 0.55, separated into four Q2 bins from 1.9 to 4.7 GeV2.

Download or read book Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering on Longitudinally Polarized Protons and Neutrons at CLAS written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper focuses on a measurement of deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) performed at Jefferson Lab using a nearly-6-GeV polarized electron beam, two longitudinally polarized (via DNP) solid targets of protons (NH3) and deuterons (ND3) and the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer. Here, preliminary results for target-spin asymmetries and double (beam-target) asymmetries for proton DVCS, as well as a very preliminary extraction of beam-spin asymmetry for neutron DVCS, are presented and linked to Generalized Parton Distributions.

Book Measurement of Single and Double Spin Asymmetries in Deep Inelastic Pion Electroproduction with a Longitudinally Polarized Target

Download or read book Measurement of Single and Double Spin Asymmetries in Deep Inelastic Pion Electroproduction with a Longitudinally Polarized Target written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the first measurement of the transverse momentum dependence of double spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive production of pions in deep inelastic scattering off the longitudinally polarized proton. Data have been obtained using a polarized electron beam of 5.7 GeV with the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). A significant non-zero $\sin2\phi$ single spin asymmetry was also observed for the first time indicating strong spin-orbit correlations for transversely polarized quarks in the longitudinally polarized proton. The azimuthal modulations of single spin asymmetries have been measured over a wide kinematic range.

Book Single Spin Asymmetries in the Bethe Heitler Process E P 2 e gamma P from QED Radiative Corrections

Download or read book Single Spin Asymmetries in the Bethe Heitler Process E P 2 e gamma P from QED Radiative Corrections written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We derived analytic formulae for the polarization single--spin asymmetries (SSA) in the Bethe--Heitler process e− + p → e− + [gamma] + p. The asymmetries arise due to one-loop QED radiative corrections to the leptonic part of the interaction and present a systematic correction for the studies of virtual Compton Scattering on a proton through interference with the Bethe-Heitler amplitude. Considered are SSA with either longitudinally polarized electron beam or a polarized proton target. The computed effect appears to be small, not exceeding 0.1 percent for kinematics of current virtual Compton scattering experiments.

Book Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton in Virtual Compton Scattering at Q2

Download or read book Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton in Virtual Compton Scattering at Q2 written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virtual Compton Scattering is studied at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in the energy domain below pion threshold and in the Delta(1232) resonance region. The data analysis is based on the Dispersion Relation (DR) approach. The electric and magnetic Generalized Polarizabilities (GPs) of the proton and the structure functions Pll-Ptt/epsilon and Plt are determined at four-momentum transfer squared Q2=0.92 and 1.76 GeV2. The DR analysis is consistent with the low-energy expansion analysis. The world data set indicates that neither the electric nor magnetic GP follows a simple dipole form.

Book Measurement of Single Spin Asymmetries in Semi Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering Reaction N u2191 e E X at Jefferson Lab

This book was released on 2010 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What constitutes the spin of the nucleon? The answer to this question is still not completely understood. Although we know the longitudinal quark spin content very well, the data on the transverse quark spin content of the nucleon is still very sparse. Semi-inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) using transversely polarized targets provide crucial information on this aspect. The data that is currently available was taken with proton and deuteron targets. The E06-010 experiment was performed at Jefferson Lab in Hall-A to measure the single spin asymmetries in the SIDIS reaction n↑(e, e'?±/K±)X using transversely polarized 3He target. The experiment used the continuous electron beam provided by the CEBAF accelerator with a beam energy of 5.9 GeV. Hadrons were detected in a high-resolution spectrometer in coincidence with the scattered electrons detected by the BigBite spectrometer. The kinematic coverage focuses on the valence quark region, x = 0.19 to 0.34, at Q2 = 1.77 to 2.73 (GeV/c)2. This is the first measurement on a neutron target. The data from this experiment, when combined with the world data on the proton and the deuteron, will provide constraints on the transversity and Sivers distribution functions on both the u and d-quarks in the valence region. In this work we report on the single spin asymmetries in the SIDIS n↑(e, e'?+)X reaction.

Book Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton in Virtual Compton Scattering at Q2

Download or read book Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton in Virtual Compton Scattering at Q2 written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report a Virtual Compton Scattering study of the proton at low CM energies. We have determined the structure functions P{sub LL} - P{sub TT}/[epsilon] and P{sub LT}, and the electric and magnetic Generalized Polarizabilities (GPs) [alpha]{sub E}(Q2) and [beta]{sub M}(Q2) at momentum transfer Q2 = 0.92 and 1.76 GeV2. The electric GP shows a strong fall-off with Q2, and its global behavior does not follow a simple dipole form. The magnetic GP shows a rise and then a fall-off; this can be interpreted as the dominance of a long-distance diamagnetic pion cloud at low Q2, compensated at higher Q2 by a paramagnetic contribution from [pi]N intermediate states.

Book Discussion on the Recent Proton DVCS Results of Jefferson Lab

Download or read book Discussion on the Recent Proton DVCS Results of Jefferson Lab written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 45204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the recent data issued from the Halls A and B of Jefferson Laboratory for the Deep Virtual Compton Scattering Process on the proton. An important set of data for beam spin asymmetries, unpolarized cross sections and differences of polarized cross sections have been obtained. We modestly attempt a first "global" analysis of these three observables at a single $x_B$, $Q^2$ and $-t$ kinematic point. We find that it is extremely challenging to describe simultaneously these data in the framework of a few Generalized Parton Distributions models.
