Book excerpt: We present a study of B semileptonic decays into charm final states based on 211.7 fb{sup -1} of data collected at the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} storage ring. Using a novel technique based on the simultaneous fit of a set of variables reconstructed on the recoil of a B tagged in an hadronic decay mode, we measure the relative branching fractions {Lambda}(B{sup -} {yields} D{sup 0}{ell}{sup -}{bar {nu}}{sub {ell}}) = 0.611 {+-} 0.022 (stat.) {+-} 0.027 (syst.) and {Lambda}(B{sup -} {yields} D**{sup 0})(D{sup (*)}{pi}){ell}{sup -}{bar {nu}}{sub {ell}}/{Lambda}(B{sup -} {yields} DX{ell}{sup -}{bar {nu}}{sub {ell}}) = 0.173 {+-} 0.017 (stat.) {+-} 0.021 (syst.).

Book excerpt: We report the first reconstruction in hadron collisions of the suppressed decays B-2!D(2!K+[pi]- )K- and B-2!D(2!K+[pi]- )[pi]- decays, sensitive to the CKM phase [gamma], using data from 7 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. We reconstruct a signal for the B-2!D(2!K+[pi]- )K- suppressed mode with a significance of 3.2 standard deviations, and measure the ratios of the suppressed to favored branching fractions R(K) = [22.0 " 8.6(stat) " 2.6(syst)] x 10-3, R+(K) = [42.6 " 13.7(stat) " 2.8(syst)] x 10-3, R-(K) = [3.8 " 10.3(stat) " 2.7(syst)] x 10-3 as well as the direct CP-violating asymmetry A(K) = -0.82"0.44(stat)"0.09(syst) of this mode. Corresponding quantities for B- 2!D(2!K+[pi]- )[pi]- decay are also reported.

Book excerpt: The authors have measured a preliminary value for the branching ratio (Gamma)(D*[sup +][sub s] --> D[sup +][sub s][pi][sup 0])/[Gamma](D*[sup +][sub s] --> D[sup +][sub s][gamma]) = 0.0621 [+-] 0.0049(stat) [+-] 0.0063(syst), which is consistent with the previous measurement, but has higher precision. They have also measured [Gamma](D*[sup 0] --> D[sup 0][pi][sup 0])/[Gamma](D*[sup 0] --> D[sup 0][gamma]) = 1.740 [+-] 0.020(stat) [+-] 0.125(syst), which is more precise than, and in agreement with, the world average. The branching fraction B(D*[sup +][sub s] --> D[sup +][sub s][pi][sup 0]) = 0.0585 [+-] 0.0043(stat) [+-] 0.0056(syst) is larger than the theoretical prediction, which is in the 1-3% range. However, it should be noted that the theory predicts a strong correlation between B(D*[sup +][sub s] --> D[sup +][sub s][pi][sup 0]) and B(D*[sup +] --> D[sup +][gamma]); for B(D*[sup +] --> D[sup +][gamma]) [approx]1%, B(D*[sup +][sub s] -- D[sup +][sub s][pi][sup 0]) is expected to be greatly enhanced.

The direct CP violating parameter A[sub K*[pi]] was measured for the decay B[sup 0] --> K*[sup +][pi][sup -] and is in agreement with the CLEO measurement, with no evidence of CP violation with the statistics used. Using larger datasets, one can extract amplitudes and relative phases of the resonant contributions to the Dalitz plot, with the possibility to observe new B-meson decays.

Neutral B-meson decays to the D*[sub s][sup+]D*[sup -] final state are selected with a partial reconstruction of the D*[sub s][sup+]; that is, only the D*[sup -] and the soft photon from the decay D*[sub s][sup+][yields] D[sub s][sup+][gamma] are reconstructed. The branching fraction[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -]) is extracted from these event yields, while[Beta](D[sub s][sup+][yields][phi][pi][sup+]) is determined by combining this result with a previous measurement of the product[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -]) x[Beta](D[sub s][sup+][yields][phi][pi][sup+]) with partial reconstruction of the D*[sup -]. They obtain the following preliminary results:[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -])= (1.50[+-] 0.16[+-] 0.12)%, [Beta](D[sub s][sup+][yields][phi][pi][sup+])= (4.7[+-] 0.6[+-] 0.8)% where the first error is statistical, and the second systematic.

Book excerpt: The absolute branching fractions for the decays D{sub s}− → l−{bar?}{sub l} (l = e,?, or?) are measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 521 fb−1 collected at center of mass energies near 10.58 GeV with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II ee− collider at SLAC. The number of D{sub s}− mesons is determined by reconstructing the recoiling system DKX? in events of the type e+e−DKXD*{sub s}−, where D*{sub s}− → D{sub s}−? and X represents additional pions from fragmentation. The D{sub s}− → l°{nu}{sub {ell}} events are detected by full or partial reconstruction of the recoiling system DKX?{ell}. The branching fraction measurements are combined to determine the D{sub s}− decay constant f{sub D{sub s}} = (258.6 ± 6.4 ± 7.5) MeV, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.
