Book Studies of Two region Subcritical Uranium Heavy Water Lattices

Download or read book Studies of Two region Subcritical Uranium Heavy Water Lattices written by James Waterbury Gosnell and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reactor physics parameters were measured in eleven two-region subcritical assemblies moderated by heavy water. The regions of the assemblies consisted of nine different lattices of various fuel rod size, U235 enrichment, and spacing. The following parameters were measured in the assemblies: bare and cadmium-covered gold foil radial traverses; bare gold foil axial traverses; the ratio of epicadmium to subcadmium capture r tes in U238 (P28); and the ratio of fissions in U238 to fissions in U233(628)- From analysis of axial traverses at various radial positions, it was determined that the axial buckling was independent of radial position in the assemblies. A method was developed to apply the age equation to the experimental gold foil traverses. This analysis yielded the quantity [...] for each region of the assemblies. Calculated values of [...] were used to obtain values of the infinite multiplication factor from this parameter. For assemblies of sufficiently large inner regions, the values of km so found agreed within experimental uncertainty with independent determinations. The slowing-down spectra. arising from the age theory analysis were used to extrapolate two-region assembly measurements of P28 to critical assembly values. General agreement was found between these extrapolated values and the results of measurements made in full, single region lattices. The heterogeneous expressions for uncollided flux derived by Pilat were extended to two-region assemblies and used to determine single rod values of 628 from two-region assembly measurements. The theory was also used to predict values of 628 for each of the lattices composing the two-region assemblies. Both the single rod values and the full lattice predictions agreed within experimental error with previously reported results. The determination of material buckling from two-region subcritical assemblies is also discussed. Because of the nature of the assemblies investigated, satisfactory measurements of the material buckling could not be made.

Book Accelerator Driven System at Kyoto University Critical Assembly

Download or read book Accelerator Driven System at Kyoto University Critical Assembly written by Cheol Ho Pyeon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2021-03-20 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book is a unique compilation of experimental benchmark analyses of the accelerator-driven system (ADS) at the Kyoto University Critical Assembly (KUCA) on the most recent advances in the development of computational methods. It is devoted especially to nuclear engineers and scientists. Readers will find a detailed description of advanced measurement techniques and calculation methodologies for the ADS with 14 MeV neutrons and high-energy neutrons (with combined use of 100 MeV protons and Pb-Bi target) at KUCA. Additionally, experimental results of nuclear transmutation of minor actinides by ADS and at a critical state are included. Readers also have access to benchmarks of specific ADS experiments with raw data in the Appendix. The book is a valuable resource for the ADS experiments at KUCA which are globally recognized as both static and kinetic studies from the point of view of fundamental research.

Book Measurements and Analysis of Critical Assemblies for Research Reactors with Mixed Enrichments

Download or read book Measurements and Analysis of Critical Assemblies for Research Reactors with Mixed Enrichments written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of the RERTR Program whole-core demonstration in the Ford Nuclear Reactor (FNR) at the University of Michigan, data have been obtained which will allow more extensive validation of neutronics methods for whole-core calculations of an equilibrium high-enriched-uranium (HEU) core and a fresh low-enriched-uranium (LEU) core. A series of experiments designed to provide the data needed for these validations has been performed in the Pool Critical Assembly (PCA) at the Oak Ridge National laboratory (ORNL). This paper reports the results of the measurements and of the subsequent validation calculations performed at ANL. Measurements were made on approximately 20 different critical configurations in the PCA during the period June 15 to 26, 1981. The normal PCA fuel elements contained high-enriched uranium (HEU, 93 wt% 235U) while the reduced-enrichment fuel elements, obtained for irradiation testing in the Oak Ridge Research Reactor (ORR) under the fuel demonstration activity of the RERTR Program, contained either medium-enriched uranium (MEU, 45 wt% 235U) or low-enriched uranium (LEU, 19.8 wt% 235U).

Book Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology

Download or read book Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology written by Ernest J. Henley and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology, Volume 2 provides an authoritative, complete, coherent, and critical review of the nuclear industry. This book discusses the advances in the atomic energy field. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the concept of transfer function of a system. This text then examines the classic plant cycles for the water-cooled, liquid metal, and gas-cooled reactor concepts to pinpoint those points in cycle that require nuclear grade heat exchanger equipment. Other chapters consider heat exchanger, which is applied to the full spectrum of apparatus and equipment designed to facilitate the flow of heat from medium to medium. This book discusses as well the hardware characteristics and the resulting effects on reactor calculations. The final chapter deals with the effect of digital computers on nuclear reactor calculations and discusses some of the numerical methods used in nuclear reactor codes. This book is a valuable resource for design engineers and plant operating personnel.
