Book Frontiers in High Energy Density Physics

Download or read book Frontiers in High Energy Density Physics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-05-11 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent scientific and technical advances have made it possible to create matter in the laboratory under conditions relevant to astrophysical systems such as supernovae and black holes. These advances will also benefit inertial confinement fusion research and the nation's nuclear weapon's program. The report describes the major research facilities on which such high energy density conditions can be achieved and lists a number of key scientific questions about high energy density physics that can be addressed by this research. Several recommendations are presented that would facilitate the development of a comprehensive strategy for realizing these research opportunities.

Book Self Focusing of Relativistic Electron Bunches in Plasma

Download or read book Self Focusing of Relativistic Electron Bunches in Plasma written by Valery B. Krasovitskii and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the non-linear theory of electrostatic focusing of an electron beam split into bunches under conditions when the plasma permittivity at the modulation frequency is negative and the effective Coulomb force acting on the electron bunches is reversed. Conditions for the spatial equilibrium between the bunch and plasma emission, as well as the dynamics of the formation of focussed bunches, are confirmed by solving (both analytically and numerically) the self-consistent set of equations.

Book Relativistic Self Focusing of Short Pulse Radiation Beams in Plasmas

Download or read book Relativistic Self Focusing of Short Pulse Radiation Beams in Plasmas written by P. Sprangle and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An envelope equation is derived which describes the radial evolution of a radiation beam propagating through a plasma. The radiation envelope equation contains a defocusing term due to diffraction spreading and a focusing term due to relativistic oscillations of the plasma electrons. The case of a constant density background plasma is analyzed in detail and an expression for a critical laser power is derived. For powers exceeding the critical power the radiation envelope oscillators and does not diffract. Under certain conditions, the radiation beam propagates through the plasma with a constant radius envelope. Keywords: Self focusing; Laser plasma interactions; Radiation propagation; Envelope equation; Relativistic plasma.

Book Wavefront sensor based Electron Density Measurements for Laser plasma Accelerators

Download or read book Wavefront sensor based Electron Density Measurements for Laser plasma Accelerators written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 33108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Characterization of the electron density in laser produced plasmas is presented using direct wavefront analysis of a probe laser beam. The performance of a laser-driven plasma-wakefield accelerator depends on the plasma wavelength, hence on the electron density. Density measurements using a conventional folded-wave interferometer and using a commercial wavefront sensor are compared for different regimes of the laser-plasma accelerator. It is shown that direct wavefront measurements agree with interferometric measurements and, because of the robustness of the compact commercial device, have greater phase sensitivity, straightforward analysis, improving shot-to-shot plasma-density diagnostics.
