Book Right Wing Politics in the New Latin America

Download or read book Right Wing Politics in the New Latin America written by Francisco Dominguez and published by Zed Books Ltd.. This book was released on 2011-11-10 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus for students of Latin America in the past decade has been on the political forces of the left and the so-called 'pink tide' presidencies attempting to bring about social and economic change in the region. However, there has been far less attention paid to the rightwing political forces resisting such change. Such opposition is being orchestrated by political parties, business, the private media and other social and cultural institutions and is linked to the 'soft power' of US diplomacy. In recent years its activities have often appeared to challenge the democratic process itself. Based on a variety of original fieldwork and evidence, this volume addresses the current trajectories of rightwing politics in Latin America in the face of leftist governments, the discrediting of neoliberalism, and the decline of US hegemony. It includes chapters on US policy towards Latin America; the role of US-based think-tanks; the influence of transnational business and of the private media; as well as offering country-specific chapters on key states with rightwing governments and on opposition to left-of-centre governments in Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile. A revealing and important book for anyone interested in contemporary Latin American politics.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Strategic Sales and Sales Management

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Strategic Sales and Sales Management written by David W. Cravens and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2012-11-22 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Handbook of Strategic Sales and Sales Management is an unrivalled overview by leading academics in the field of sales and marketing management. Sales theory is experiencing a renaissance driven by a number of factors, including building profitable relationships, creating/delivering brand value, strategic customer management, sales and marketing relationships, global selling, and the change from transactional to customer relationship marketing. Escalating sales and selling costs require organisations to be more focused on results and highlight the shifting of resources from marketing to sales. Further the growth in customer power now requires a strategic sales response, and not just a tactical one. The positioning of sales within the organisation, the sales function and sales management are all discussed. The Handbook is not a general sales management text about managing a sales force, but will fill a gap in the existing literature through consolidating the current academic research in the sales area. The Handbook is structured around four key topics. The first section explores the strategic positioning of the sales function within the modern organisation. The second considers sales management and recent developments. The third section examines the sales relationship with the customer and highlights how sales is responding to the modern environment. Finally, the fourth section reviews the internal composition of sales within the organisation. The Handbook will provide a comprehensive introduction to the latest research in sales management, and is suitable for academics, professionals, and those taking professional qualifications in sales and marketing.

Book Leadership and Place

Download or read book Leadership and Place written by Chris Collinge and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the radical transformation of society associated with globalisation, shifting patterns of demography and the revolution in information and communication technologies over the last two decades, we remain profoundly attached to place in economic, social, cultural and emotional terms. The idea of sustainable place shaping has made its way to the heart of the debate on the form and delivery of integrated (economic development, planning, housing, regeneration, education, transport and health) policy for our neighbourhoods, towns, cities and regions. The delivery of policy for place shaping has become a far more complex cross-boundary and relational leadership task - and there is now a requirement for a refreshed approach to leadership development for collaborative learning and ‘associational’ working. Going forward, what is needed is a more insightful and comprehensive conceptual framework related to the leadership of place that takes account of the paradigm shift occurring in economic development, planning and regeneration studies. Against this background, this timely book takes stock of the leadership literature and connects with the experience and views of those working in economic development, planning and regeneration. In this book we seek to enhance the discussion of these new leadership challenges. This collection first appeared as a special issue of Policy Studies and is now published by kind permission in the Regional Studies Association book series, Regions and Cities.

Book The Psychology of Politicians

Download or read book The Psychology of Politicians written by Ashley Weinberg and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-12-15 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Psychology of Politicians explores a topic which fuels public and media debate yet is under-researched and has potentially far-reaching consequences for the success of our political systems. Focusing on research with democratically elected representatives from the UK, Poland and Italy, and on the political behaviour of a former US President and voters' perceptions in the emerging democracy of Ukraine, this book is packed with psychological insights. Using quantitative and qualitative methodologies, the contributors chart the progress of the individual politician from selection as a candidate to becoming established in Parliament examining their qualities as communicators, thinkers and leaders. The impact of work and non-work pressures on their mental well-being and capacity to handle a crisis are probed and the roles of personality traits in politicians' values and in public perceptions of our elected representatives are highlighted.

Book Debt Restructuring

Download or read book Debt Restructuring written by Rodrigo Olivares-Caminal and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new second edition of Debt Restructuring provides detailed legal analysis of international corporate, banking, and sovereign debt restructuring, from the perspective of both creditors and debtors. It sets out practical guidance to help practitioners, policy-makers and academics to understand current developments in debt restructuring, and provides solutions for creditors holding distressed debt and debtor options in a distressed scenario. The Corporate Debt section includes a number of very significant changes such as the UK Supreme Court decision in Eurosail and the disapproval of the "point of no return" test for balance sheet insolvency or the endorsement of the Cheyne Finance decision on cashflow. The changes in treatment of schemes of arrangement since with the decision in Rodenstock are reflected as are the Recast European Insolvency Regulation (EIR) and the Supreme Court decision in Rubin. In the US chapter the new edition considers the limitations on bankruptcy court jurisdiction in Stern v. Marshall and, in the RadLax case, the right of secured creditors to credit bid in a sale of their collateral under a chapter 11 plan. Other significant case law includes consideration of the various safe harbour provisions of the Bankruptcy Code relating to derivative and other financial instruments and cases concerning the effect of foreign court orders in the US. In the Bank Resolution section, the UK part also has been substantially amended to reflect the new system of macro and micro prudential oversight with the establishment of the PRA, FCA, FPC, and the FSCS. Additionally it reflects changes introduced by the Financial Services Act 2012 and by the Financial Services (Banking Reform) Act 2013. Additionally there is a new chapter in this part on the EU framework on the resolution of banks and financial institutions which analyses and explains initiatives such as SRM, and the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive. The US chapter reflects changes in Fannie and Freddie conservatorships, the FDIC's SPE strategy under Dodd-Frank, the proposed GLAC requirements, and resolution plan filings. In the Sovereign Debt section, there is detailed coverage of the New York litigation on the pari passu litigation and its interpretation in sovereign debt contracts. Also, this section of the book analyses the adoption of single-limb CACs in the aftermath of the Greek restructuring as well as the proposal for creditor engagement clauses. It also provides full analysis of the EU architecture implemented to prevent a sovereign debt crisis, including the creation of new stabilization mechanisms (EFSF and ESM), and the challenges presented to the single-currency area.

Book Time Dependent CP Violation Measurements

Download or read book Time Dependent CP Violation Measurements written by Markus Röhrken and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a high-quality, high-precision method for the data analysis of an interesting elementary particle reaction. The data was collected at the Japanese B-meson factory KEKB with the Belle detector, one of the most successful large-scale experiments worldwide. CP violation is a subtle quantum effect that makes the world look different when simultaneously left and right and matter and antimatter are exchanged. This being a prerequisite for our own world to have developed from the big bang, there are only a few experimental indications of such effects, and their detection requires very intricate techniques. The discovery of CP violation in B meson decays garnered Kobayashi and Maskawa, who had predicted these findings as early as 1973, the 2008 Nobel prize in physics. This thesis describes in great detail what are by far the best measurements of branching ratios and CP violation parameters in two special reactions with two charm mesons in the final state. It presents an in-depth but accessible overview of the theory, phenomenology, experimental setup, data collection, Monte Carlo simulations, (blind) statistical data analysis, and systematic uncertainty studies.

Book B Decays

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sheldon Stone
  • Publisher : World Scientific
  • Release : 1994
  • ISBN : 9789810218362
  • Pages : 676 pages

Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.
