Book Railway Engineering

Download or read book Railway Engineering written by Satish Chandra and published by . This book was released on 2013-02-02 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Railway Engineering has been specially designed for undergraduate students of civil engineering. From fundamental topics to modern technological developments, the book covers all aspects of the railways including various modernization plans covering tracks, locomotives, and rolling stock. Important statistical data about the Indian Railways and other useful information have also been incorporated to make the coverage comprehensive. A number of illustrative examples supplement text to aid easy understanding of design methods discussed. The book should also serve the need of students of polytechnics and those appearing of the AMIE examination and would also be a ready reference for railway professionals.

Book Ocean Wave Energy Conversion

Download or read book Ocean Wave Energy Conversion written by Michael E. McCormick and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume will prove of vital interest to those studying the use of renewable resources. Scientists, engineers, and inventors will find it a valuable review of ocean wave mechanics as well as an introduction to wave energy conversion. It presents physical and mathematical descriptions of the nine generic wave energy conversion techniques, along with their uses and performance characteristics. Author Michael E. McCormick is the Corbin A. McNeill Professor of Naval Engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy. In addition to his timely and significant coverage of possible environmental effects associated with wave energy conversion, he provides a separate treatment of several electro-mechanical energy conversion techniques. Many worked examples throughout the book will be particularly useful to readers with a limited mathematical background. Those interested in research and development will benefit from the extensive bibliography.

Book Diffraction X ray Optics

Download or read book Diffraction X ray Optics written by A.I. Erko and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diffraction X-ray Optics provides a systematic description of the performance and mathematical properties of diffraction x-ray optical elements based upon artificially made microstructures. This description is presented both theoretically (using kinematic diffraction theory and classical optics) and experimentally (including details of the experimental verification of theoretical data). The microstructures which are considered include: plane zone plates, two and three dimensional gratings, multilayer mirrors and three dimensional Fresnel structures. The book also includes a detailed description of the main principles, technology and applications of both Bragg-Fresnel multilayer optics and x-ray Fourier optics. Special attention is paid to coherent phenomena in the x-ray region, x-ray holography and Bragg-Fresnel optics and with chapters covering absorption and refraction, planar diffraction, volume holography, fabrication techniques and microscopy this book will prove a useful sourcebook to both researchers and development engineers in the field.

Book Statistical Methods for Speech Recognition

Download or read book Statistical Methods for Speech Recognition written by Frederick Jelinek and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2022-11-01 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reflects decades of important research on the mathematical foundations of speech recognition. It focuses on underlying statistical techniques such as hidden Markov models, decision trees, the expectation-maximization algorithm, information theoretic goodness criteria, maximum entropy probability estimation, parameter and data clustering, and smoothing of probability distributions. The author's goal is to present these principles clearly in the simplest setting, to show the advantages of self-organization from real data, and to enable the reader to apply the techniques. Book Semiconductor Spintronics and Quantum Computation

Download or read book Semiconductor Spintronics and Quantum Computation written by D.D. Awschalom and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past few decades of research and development in solid-state semicon ductor physics and electronics have witnessed a rapid growth in the drive to exploit quantum mechanics in the design and function of semiconductor devices. This has been fueled for instance by the remarkable advances in our ability to fabricate nanostructures such as quantum wells, quantum wires and quantum dots. Despite this contemporary focus on semiconductor "quantum devices," a principal quantum mechanical aspect of the electron - its spin has it accounts for an added quan largely been ignored (except in as much as tum mechanical degeneracy). In recent years, however, a new paradigm of electronics based on the spin degree of freedom of the electron has begun to emerge. This field of semiconductor "spintronics" (spin transport electron ics or spin-based electronics) places electron spin rather than charge at the very center of interest. The underlying basis for this new electronics is the intimate connection between the charge and spin degrees of freedom of the electron via the Pauli principle. A crucial implication of this relationship is that spin effects can often be accessed through the orbital properties of the electron in the solid state. Examples for this are optical measurements of the spin state based on the Faraday effect and spin-dependent transport measure ments such as giant magneto-resistance (GMR). In this manner, information can be encoded in not only the electron's charge but also in its spin state, i. e.
